Jim's normal speaking voice is VERY close to Malkovitch to begin with which definitely helps. When Malkovitch gets angry during a scene, his enunciation becomes slower and even more pronounced.

That movie is hilarious! Not only do you get full range, almost exaggerated Malkovich and buffoon Clooney, but you get the epitome of the ‘fate/choice’ themes that the Coen Bros. like to build stories around 😂 just that one choice to write a memoir leads to a whole mess for the lives of several people! @ashtonbarnes2053
@ashtonbarnes2053 5 лет назад
I have been told by multiple sources that I sound very similar to Malkovich. And I'm only 23, but I have been told I have a very similar way of talking. And someone brought this to my attention and truthfully I never thought about it I'm barely even aware of my voice when I'm speaking. And I can't speak for John but for me I do in fact have fairly significant hearing loss, and I have a short tongue due to having a tied tongue as a baby (which who knows could play a role). I analyzed my voice and I'm very monotone when I'm talking, unless I get more expressive like anger or excitement. I noticed Malkovich does this as well. The only difference i can tell by talking to a 3rd party about it because as I said I'm not aware of my own voice when I speak is that I talk a bit faster, and swallow the pronunciation of certain letters. I don't know if this is interesting to you at all.
@jimmeskimen
@jimmeskimen 5 лет назад
Absolutely interesting! Thank you for sharing your observations with me, Ashton. Did the doctors shorten your tongue at birth? I've never heard of that, sounds kind of brutal!
@ashtonbarnes2053
@ashtonbarnes2053 5 лет назад
@@jimmeskimen idk exactly how to describe it but yes my tongue is shorter than it should have been and it was effected by my tongue being tied. And I have a very difficult time with certain letters specifically W's and R's. To this day I dont know how to say worry for example. So i think like malkovich at some point i must have developed kind of a lazy way of talking if you will.

Malkovich. Malkovich, Malkovich. (subtitle: How NOT to need 15 minutes inside John Malkovich's mind. I AM HUNGRY AS THE WINTER!) But seriously I can test his voice out when I narrate classic literature or my own fiction if I see the instinct for it. Maybe some protagonist having an off day of dismay and they're past the point of caring. Tommy Lee Jones cares less vocally, yet! John Malkovich is kind of on the road to Tommy Lee Jones's lower, inconsiderate, if you will, pitch.
