Thanks for this great video. Idea: book private afrocuban conga tutorials with big names in Cuba, bring your main camera and mics and lights for the tutorials. Interviews. B-roll of markets, art galleries, mountains (the route from Havana to Matanzas), beach, and neighborhood yambu performances. Pick up Sonoc bongos for use in tutorials.

Thanks! You start to expain the rhythm from the open tone Tumba, but the rhythm itself (counting 1234) starts on the open tone Quinto, right? I guess you explain the rhythm from the 4and onwards? At least for me, hearing the rhythm played it sounds like that
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 6 лет назад
You are correct... The Quinto is basically counting everything for you... 1234

This reminds me of a Afoxe/Ijexa figure/improv I have seen Marcos Santos do on a piece called Batujexa. I tried to put in a link but it didn't work for some reason.
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 6 лет назад
Yea Marcos does something like this to incorporate in his samba patterns.

Hey man big fan but i got a question i hope you can respond im a little new in congas and i want to get just 1 conga thats affordable but that sounds really good im thinking about the meinl marathon conga but i dont know if it has a well pronounced slap to it do you think there is something affordable you could recomened me please but it had to sound really good. something like around $300 and $360
@APercussionLife

Hey, what do you think about the toca custom deluxe conga ,im asking you because i know you are a professional percussionist.
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 6 лет назад
marc Andrews those are really good as well!
@NenadNS3
@NenadNS3 6 лет назад
Again really great! Thanks man! Now, I am thinking how this could be incorporated for 2 congas.... Left hand would surely be playing the same pattern on quinto, and right hand... well maybe slaps could be played instead of conga hits, since conga is higher than tumba. What do you think? I will give a try this way and let you now... :) P.S. I find recaps kind of redundant in every of your videos. I mean, you just repeat what you have already explained few moments before (I don't find it any different), everyone can get back to that part of video and watch it again.
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 6 лет назад
Thanks! You can replace the “Tumba” part and make a bass tone on your second drum... maybe you can pull it off that way as well. And I agree with the “recap” part... although people ask for it but I’m with you... I’ll try to slowly stop doing them hahaha it’ll save me time as well.
