Don’t let this pose fool you. Laghuvajrasana might seem simple but in this video, you’ll find out why it’s actually a lot more challenging than it looks!
In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to do LAGHUVAJRASANA / LITTLE THUNDERBOLT POSE from Ashtanga’s second series, the Intermediate Series. We break it down with the traditional vinyasa cues and Sanskrit count so you know to enter and leave this pose. You’ll discover why it’s not actually more of a backbend than Ustrasana / Camel pose and how to ease into it safely, with correct actions and alignment cues for different body types and injury prevention.

Aahhh thank you so much for this! I am one of the poor souls stuck on this pose, and everything you said rings true. The long limbs, the not-strong-enough-legs... I'm so glad to know I'm not alone. I can do kapotasana though, and got that on my first try unassisted. So I am in the camp that David mentioned where my flexibility makes this harder.

Your videos have always been helpful for my practice!! I usually rewatch some of your videos before the practice day just to make sure that I can do it correctly in the class. And you are right, I'm one of the "flexible" people and back bend is very easy to me to the point where I wonder if I do it correctly since everybody seems to have a hard time doing the poses. Unfortunately that's not the case where I have to do poses that require a lot of strength. I've been practicing for 5 years and cant even do a proper headstand yet!! Looking forward to more of your videos in the future. Love from Indonesia ❤

Hi! Thanks for this, you’ve shared some great tips. This one took me a while but working on strength using a block under my head until I could stay there for 5 breaths and then come up was the key for me. And patience, always haha Love from buenos aires 👋🏼

Thanks D&J! This is very helpful. I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t raise up easily out of this posture. Now I see that I too am one of the flexy/bendy people that have trouble summoning the leg strength needed to come up from reclining. I keep my arms straight but I have to move/increase the distance b/n my knees to come up. (Keeping them stationary, in their original hip-distanced apart position seems impossible.. right now anyway.) I will definitely experiment with the different hand positions you demonstrated to see how that affects my posture. Many, many thanks!❤

Thank you so so much, this was VERY helpful to me! I’ve struggled with this pose and am working on the leg strength since I have natural flexibility, also I’m one of those with long arms and legs …which I use as an excuse 😂 You two are Awesome 🙏🏼💗

Don't get discouraged, please, is beautifuk to look at you both, the way you interact is inspiring and watching Jelena making everything look easy is just so much yoga fun.
