I actually hadn't seen this video. The most intimidating aspect of Costco for me is just finding the products. It's not straight forward if you don't know the store. And absolutely, if you don't shop there regularly, product locations can change drastically & I find myself lost & stressed about an order that I should have been able to shop in 20 minutes taking me 40 minutes or longer before I can head up to checkout. Lately, the only time I accept a Costco order is when I've been sitting for awhile & a single order batch pops up for $40+ and low miles. And for those shoppers that don't know, the most valuable asset in these stores for pointing you in the right direction to find those products are all of those people handing out samples. They have clip boards with product locations and are trained to point you in the right direction so that you aren't wandering around in complete confusion.
I am considering doing a full day of Costco this coming week to see how it goes. It is a bit of a drive so I want to see if it’s worth it. Thank you for the tips and tricks before I go.
I have to share my Costco batch story.... Here it goes.... I have shopped Costco orders before, a few, but I'm familiar with the process. I watched your video and remember you recommended getting a 2nd cart which popped into my head during this order but I was semi-deep into the store that I didn't want to go back to the entrance and get a 2nd cart. I thought I'd separate in the cart. The batch was originally 1 order and as I was shopping for the customer I received an add-on order which I accepted since I was already there and knew I'd make $54 from that batch which wasn't bad. I separated the orders in the cart as best I could and when I arrived at check out, I explained to the cashier that customer A had 1 sparkling water and diapers from bottom of the basket, and the other sparkling water was for customer B. She said she understood. I explained it twice. I didn't double check to make sure she scanned the right items and after I checked the receipts I noticed she charged customer A with both sparkling waters. So I immediately stopped at guest services and explained the situation. The cashier at guest services couldn't refund money back on card obviously, so she said she'd give me store credit as a refund for customer A. She then accidentally refunded customer A for the incorrect sparkling water and had to recharge him for the correct one then refund him for the incorrect one. When we moved onto customer B, who she needed to charge for 1 of the sparkling waters (because he wasn't charged for any), she charged him for the incorrect one. Now she had to refund him for that one and then charge him with the correct one. Both customers received store credit. It was really confusing and when I was putting groceries in car, I confused which customer had which sparkling water. I corrected this and delivered the correct order to each customer, I spoke to each customer personally and explained the situation and apologized. In hindsight, had I done what Aphid advised about getting 2 carts, this would have been avoided, and I would have been done in less time. Lesson learned. Thanks for your advice Aphid, I appreciate you.
Oh my, that sounds like a disaster. Oddly enough I had nearly the same thing happen to me at Sams club. It’s why I stopped swiping the card early and getting two carts if they are big orders. That or the flat bed for one big order and one small. People think I’m dumb for using two carts, but this is exactly why I do it! Glad somebody agrees lol. Sorry for the bad day, hope you have better luck next time 😁
@@aphidcart Yes! That's the other thing I learned today, don't swipe the card too early. Wait to make sure the order is correct in case we as the shoppers make a mistake, or the cashier. But if we organize ourselves well enough, we shouldn't have any issues. It was a good day, I'd say. Made over $50 and learned something! Best wishes to all Instacart shoppers out there.
I've had one issue with doing multiple orders and using one cart and since then I make sure I know how each is separated (usually top and bottom). If I ever did do two large orders I would definitely get two carts but I can just imagine the issues of using two carts in a crowded Costco. I also double check when waiting in line that I have separated everything correctly before I tell the checker.
I like the idea of taking two carts instead of a flatbed. But in either situation, I going to locate & grab boxes. At least before I head to checkout. Too many times the checkout people treat me like I'm shopping for myself & not for customers. I need those boxes for my deliveries! And another helpful hint is that I check out the items in an order & head to the area where I want start & find my 1st item before I click "Start Shopping".😉
Two carts is nice at my store because all the cashiers know how it’s separated. I don’t have to worry about them accidentally scanning somebody else’s items, which could get me deactivated. And good advice! I appreciate it
@@aphidcart Absolutely. I have wasted so much time in the past shuffling around boxes in my in one cart and wrestling cases of water and 45# bags of dog food on the bottom shelf. It'll be much less of a pain in the ass pulling 2 carts around than what I was doing. And now, I can take larger orders without having to calculate in my head if I can possibly manage it with one cart, while some other shopper grabs the order as I'm trying to figure it all out!😁
@@aphidcart Your HEB stores are the equivalent of my Fred Meyer stores here in Spokane. I learned from a lady that she straps 2 of the the small carts together & handles them as one cart. She has handled up to 3 orders with this setup.
I thought of gathering boxes when I’m walking down the aisles because they’re usually low in front. I didn’t think of packing them so thanks for that. Yesterday I received an order at Costco. I completed the order and checked out. The customer sent a message saying she had already received her order and that she’s confused why I was shopping the same order. I let her know that I would contact instacart and have the order cancelled. Returned the order. Well I sat there at Costco in the parking lot trying to resolve it. Instacart read the messages where the customer said she had already received her order. They then called her to make sure. They asked her if her order was there….wow….she assumed it was at her front door and it wasn’t. Costco had just closed and I couldn’t go back to re-shop her order. They gave me a gift card with the amount purchased. Btw….instacart said for me to use the gift card on my next batch. Any way, this morning my account said it’s under review and so I can’t shop. Now I have to wait 24 hrs to see what happens. I think the customer has CRS. 🤷🏾♀️ just hoping I don’t get de-activated
I can't do the 2 cart method. In 2 years I think I've done it maybe twice and it sucked. Really slowed me down. Same with the flatbed, I use it as little as possible.. Before shopping I look at the two lists figure out roughly what goes where for each batch in the cart, and I use permanent markers to label items as needed to keep them straight at checkout. Because Costco is so huge I don't start the shopping clock until I've walked to the first item gong in the cart. Before checkout I take inventory of the easiest batch to count. If that's all accounted for, then I know the other order is ok so no real need to count it, also. My biggest issue with Costco is the staff. My local store is not very friendly to Instacart drivers
Whaaaa dude? If shopping for more then one person or even one person with lots of units....definitely use a flatbed cart (only if you are %100 certain a customer(s) order will fit in an actual cart should you take an actual cart instead of a flat bed.) Some items may look small but in reality may be a lot bigger. My hints/tips for Costco.....Warning....Saturdays and Sundays are a nightmare because there are way too many customers in the store. If you dare shop on a Saturday/Sunday choose your Costco batches wisely(pro-tip chose them wisely on weekdays as well, but more so weekends.) Do not be afraid to remove a few items from one box to another so that you can get a few empty boxes before you start shopping or during your shopping (Do not take empty boxes off an unattended cart!!! they may be another customers boxes and/or shoppers boxes) I get a few boxes before I start shopping or during the beginning of my shopping (Most of the time I take them from the produce boxes as they often only have a few items in them that you can easily move to adjacent produce boxes without damaging the product. Perfect examples are big bags of clementine's, oranges or boxes that hold mini watermelons. They also happen to fit in the cart or flat bed very well. Which makes separating orders much easier. That being said, be forewarned that some people feel free to just take those empty boxes off your cart for themselves. This is so disrespectful to me and I shame people who do that if I see them and know for certain they took my box. When confronted they will claim they just thought it was an employee's box (most are lying and know it's your box or boxes. Just a day or two ago I had two different people take two of my boxes while I stepped away from my cart to retrieve an item for like 45 seconds. I found the one customer and advised him he just took my box. He gave it back to me but totally had a smile on his face like he knew it was mine, and I know he knew because the other boxes I had on my cart already had customer items in it. So he had no way to claim he just thought it was an employee cart collecting empty boxes.) Occasionally you will see Costco employee(s) using a cart to collect empty boxes. Feel free to ask them if you can take some of those boxes. They will happily oblige you. As for cellular service, ugghhhh Costco drives me nuts with this. My phone get's decent service in %70-%80 of their store. That being said if you go into the dairy/eggs fridge or the Produce fridge, good luck communicating with your customer if needed. I literally have to walk out of those fridges to communicate or send pics to my customer, because there is no signal inside those fridges. This even happens to me occasionally when I go through the other fridge aisles which are not fully enclosed but because they are side by side have a similar effect. This is quite frustrating as it will delay your shopping time.
YES! I work for Costco and I couldn't have said it better. Most veteran shoppers know this. I always tell this to rookies. Also. Do not have an attitude. Had an ic shopper that didn't take any items out of the cart and told me to box her items. Told her I don't have any boxes. Started to tell her that must shoppers get boxes from produce. She cut me off and said I'm working! You go get them. I called a manager over. She's not allowed in Costco anymore. I go out of my way to help people. Most shoppers come to my line cause I get them out quickly.
If you shop Costco.....have an SUV. Plain and simple. If you have a small car...stay away from Costco....because the one batch you get...well...you bit off more than you can chew. I wasn't sure if this guy could get it done, but he did...but maybe in the future...should stick to one person batches for Costco.
Bruh, how do you call support from the shopper perspective? I don’t even have an option. Either way, not too concerned where they are. I can get a good guess where they are located by their name though lol. I had a guy named dickshit once. No joke 😂 I just don’t understand that culture and I am not used to their names. Great people still
Yeah, it happens sometimes. What you can try doing is pre-shopping for 10-15 minutes then start the batch after you have grabbed a several items. Also increases your shop speed
Haha I might show a video. I’m not exactly a body builder either. It’s all about the technique 😎 saw some lady trying to do this the other day, and she was struggling.
Skimming through comments, doesn't look like anyone has mentioned it. The reason why the glue would've been age restricted is cause people huff it (primarily super glue) to get high, so assuming that's why it was flagged. I know my local Wal-Mart you have to be 18+ for it and that's where I'm getting this logic from.
I love to watch your videos thank you for sharing all the informations I’m applying what I’m learning from this video anyway can we shop if it’s the same store near by
Good information. I would like to add to avoid lifting up heavy stuff and walk for long time for example pick up 50lb salt bags and walk a long distance to the cart, your back may be hurt.
For Costco there is no app unfortunately, but I think I was referencing shopping at H-E-B, they have an app that located items. Sorry about that, kinda confusing haha
@@aphidcart I almost never take heb orders unless theyre a low item count and big tip. They don't support the app or instacart, hence the mangled list and now pog assignments (isles/shelf). I can shop a 80 unit kroger order faster than a 30 unit heb order. Other thing i loathe about heb is my earnings are always lower as i have to sub half the list to their brand of products. Hate shopping at heb, and i was in heb leadership for 15 years almost lol.
Is instacart shopper different for every state? I’m in California and majority of my earnings come from the actual batch pay and not the tip, just interesting to see such big tips
California is a different beast. You guys get extra pay I’ve heard to make up for the minimum hourly rate there. Some law they passed recently I heard of. Every market is different when it comes to the instacart pay vs tip pay. Costco tends to have high tipping orders though. Some markets just have a lot of generous people who tip big
I like the two cart system because it makes checkout easy at my store. I’ve had managers come unload everything on my flatbed before and mix up orders. Some costcos the staff are great with flatbeds, not mine though 😅
@@aphidcart wow, cool. I never understood when it has me drive by a store to go to another store then back to the person's house that was next to that store. Thank you!
Aphid Cart where can you find the badge? I went to Costco today for Instacart and they wouldn’t let my checkout. My customer also didn’t have their own membership
It takes practice lol. Put the heavy stuff in the back of the cart too. I have a technique of pulling the second cart behind the first one that helps but it’s kinda hard to describe lol
The bishes be moving things every other day. Anooying as fawk! lol. Two carts is impossible if you are alone unless you want to go like 30 mins over your goal time...lol. Flat beds are only needed for large item batches or double+ Batches. Learn how to organize a flat bed. use the part closest to you for boxes which you put smaller items in. Leave the front end for large items like drinks, toilet paper/towels and other large items.
I hate cosco💀 the money was good but it’s just too much .. the line is crazy everything is huge and they always sent me into another state💀 4/10 recommended 😩
Well explained, thanks! By the way: There is absolutely NOTHING self explanatory in Cosco. "Let's see....Kitty liter, kitty litter..kitt.." _20 minutes later_ ...... "OH! what was I thinking?; THERE IT IS!!! .....right next to diapers, Pepsi and Coco Puffs!" 😵💫
Costcos are literally black holes for service with phones 😂 I have 1 spot where it’ll work so I can send chats. I have to stand in the wine section or literally go out to the parking lot.
