Martin, I have no interest in using these techniques, but the information you share in this video I found to be invaluable, and I find so often Artist are reluctant to show others what they know which, to my thinking, stifle the growth of photography. Thank you for sharing. John.

I have to say you shared some awesome techniques that many would not in fear of competition. I have tried ICM and multiple exposures, but the multiple exposures did not come out as good as the ones you showed I need more practice. Thank you for sharing
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 9 месяцев назад
Just a quick tip, if I may. When it comes to ICM, it's often best to shoot from the heart rather than overthinking and attempting to control the outcome. The joy of unplanned surprises can bring a unique dimension to your photos, and evaluating them later with a clear mind can lead to more genuine and authentic results. Keep practicing, and you'll see it all come together.

I sometimes experiment with my mobile phone when I see an unusual opportunity. I like that layering effect you described. One time I was heading on a near empty bus towards Melbourne. It was a 3 hour journey and it was dusk. The setting sun came from the right side and I was sitting on the left side trying to take landscape photos during golden hour but I was getting right side view reflected on the left side window. It made for some interesting layering effects after I deliberately did some heavy editing. Some shots looked like the trees were on fire and the slow shutter speed added to the dreamy effect, giving a painterly look. Great way to pass the time on a slow trip.
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 8 месяцев назад
Absolutely Mark, smartphones are wonderful and convenient tools for exploring creative photography options. While they may not replace a proper camera in fine art photography, they certainly add to the creative process. Your bus journey story is a fantastic example of how you can leverage the unique features of a smartphone camera to capture stunning and unexpected moments. Keep exploring and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with your mobile photography-it's a great way to express your creativity! Regards Martin.

Hi Martin. I just got my Photoshop 2024 and have been playing with the new AI features. They are truly amazing but I am a bit conflicted as to the ethics of its use and the simplicity of use. Can you do a feature on Ai and its PROPER place in the art of photography, if infact it has one. Kind regards Wayne van Heerden
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 8 месяцев назад
Hi Wayne! It's great to hear that you're exploring the new AI features in Photoshop 2024, and I understand your ethical concerns. AI has indeed become a powerful tool in the world of photography, and it's a topic that has raised significant discussions about its proper place in the art of photography. I think that AI is a great tool to help come up with concepts and ideas, but I believe that creating authentic "human" art and remaining ethical and true to your artistic vision will pay off in the end. As someone who is beginning by fine art journey, I am finding your videos inspiring and encouraging. You mention in this video crystals as a way to move to fine art. May I ask what is used? Thanks Nina
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 6 месяцев назад
Hi Nina! Thank you so much for your kind words and for finding inspiration in my videos-I'm thrilled to be a part of your fine art journey! In terms of the crystals I use in my artwork, it might sound a bit unconventional, but I love experimenting with "real" textures to create unique overlays. Some of my favorites include using everyday items like dishwasher salt, sugar, and even candy! These materials add a fascinating dimension to the artwork and bring out distinctive qualities in the final piece. The possibilities are endless, and it's a wonderful way to infuse your artwork with a personal touch. Happy creating, and I can't wait to see where your fine art journey takes you! Regards Martin

I have technical question on fine art photography if blurry background in photograph would be depending how be done fine art?
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 8 месяцев назад
It seems like you're asking about achieving a blurry background, also known as bokeh, in fine art photography. Creating a blurry background can indeed be an effective technique in fine art photography to draw attention to your subject and add a sense of depth to the image. The degree of blurriness in the background can vary depending on several factors, including your choice of aperture, the distance between the subject and background, and the focal length of your lens. So, begin with a bland, zero-talent photograph, apply a variety of gimmicks, and presto... Instant art!! And the more it looks like a painting, or anything other than a photograph, the more it must be art! But, for a more pure form of fine art photography, add rubber bands or firewood. I think I've got it!
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 9 месяцев назад
Hi David, I appreciate your perspective, but I respectfully disagree with your cynical remark. In the video, the intention was not to diminish the artistry of photography but rather to introduce craft techniques that can help transform photography into a form of art or fine art. These techniques serve as starting points to explore and expand upon, allowing photographers to delve deeper into the creative process. Fine art photography is a multifaceted realm that encompasses various styles and approaches, including those where photography is just one element of a larger artistic process. It's important to acknowledge the rich history of darkroom techniques and the pioneers of fine art photography who have paved the way for contemporary photographers. The techniques presented in the video are just the beginning, and there is more to come. Embracing digital technology is also a significant part of the evolution of fine art photography, just as the darkroom was in the past. As the world progresses, so does art and fine art, and it's exciting to look forward to new possibilities and innovations in the field. Rather than dwelling on the past, I believe there are countless exciting opportunities to explore in the ever-evolving world of fine art photography. Let's embrace the present and future with enthusiasm and creativity.
@davidkachel
@davidkachel 9 месяцев назад
@@MartinOsner Where have you been for the ENTIRE HISTORY OF FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY?!! Photography does not need 'help transforming into a form of art'. No transformation is required and neither are paints, or clever gimmicks. This has not been an issue since Alfred Stieglitz, over 100 years ago, until you decided to turn it back into one, all by yourself. A bad photograph does not become a good photograph, by virtue of smearing it with paint.
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 9 месяцев назад
David, I appreciate your perspective and your historical knowledge of fine art photography. It's clear that you have a deep appreciation for the traditional aspects of this art form, and I respect that. The intention here is not to disregard the purity of photography but to explore new creative possibilities where photography is a part of a broader artistic process. While it's true that photography itself can be a powerful form of art, some artists choose to incorporate additional elements or techniques to push the boundaries of their creativity. This doesn't negate the value of traditional photography; it's simply an alternative approach. It's important to acknowledge that art is subjective, and each artist has their own unique vision and creative path. You have your opinion, and I have mine, and I respect your perspective. If this topic doesn't align with your artistic philosophy, that's absolutely fine, and we can agree to disagree. Art is a diverse and ever-evolving field, and there's room for different viewpoints and approaches.

Yes, and these techniques you can find them for free on youtube. This is not real art.
@MartinOsner
@MartinOsner 8 месяцев назад
You can find just about everything on youtube. I understand your perspective that free techniques found on RU-vid may not always be considered as "real art" by some standards. It's important to recognize that the definition of art can vary widely among individuals, and the availability of free tutorials and resources can indeed challenge traditional notions of art. Artistic expression, including in photography, exists on a spectrum from traditional to contemporary, and it's influenced by various factors, including accessibility to tools and information. While some may argue that "real art" is rooted in more traditional or exclusive practices, others may see value in the democratization of art through online resources. Ultimately, what constitutes "real art" is subjective and can differ from person to person. It's a discussion that reflects the ever-evolving nature of the art world.
