Craig I've watched this 6 times now and finally figured out what to say........ I'm really glad you made this video. The reason I've watched so many times is because I'm in the process of this. I got some that were "trappers tanned" or fleshed and dried well and I wanted to be darn sure before I tanned it. THANK YOU FOR THIS BROTHER!!
Oh fantastic brother! 😊👍👍 I’m sure you’ll do well with em, biggest part is not getting in too big of a hurry. It’s about a 10 day process with me. I can’t wait to hear how they turned out so let me know! Better yet show us on a video 😊👌 it will make a good one 😊👏👏👏
Wow wow wow!! I don't think I would ever do this but I could not stop watching! The end result was beautiful!! Their skin is tough and amazing they was differ colors from same area! God is so good!
Hi Greg! I can sure tell those furs are soft. This was awesome to watch the process. Highly interesting. The end result is awesome! Great job, Greg!!👍🦝🦝🦝😊
Great video Craig! Tanning raccoons is time consuming. It looked like they came out nice! This is a good video with very clear instructions. Thanks for sharing it!
Thanks a bunch Jeromy! I hate it ran so long but I couldn’t figure out how to split it in two lol. But I appreciate that, I hoped it be good for the first timers 😊👍👍👊
Awesome job! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with us first timers! I have a few raccoons, couple rabbits, and a coyote that I will be tanning shortly and appreciate you sharing your technique!
Hey my friend! I sure appreciate ya watchin and the awesome comment! I hope you’re hides turn out nice! I’m sure you’ll do a good job. Let me know how they look when ya get em done! Take care. 😊🔥👍👍👏

Thanks so much my friend! I really appreciate you taking time to watch and the nice comments 😊 I enjoyed your last Malta tour and found it all so interesting! Take care and stay safe my friend 😊👏👏👍
This will be my first year tanning. I really like your patience and detail. I will watch it again and may have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
Hey Terry! Best of luck buddy, I hope it’s a great season for ya. Coons are probably the hardest to do because they are so greasy. Everything else is much better 😂 Let me know if I can help ya in any way! 😊🇺🇸🔥👏👏
Wow! Hello my friend! it's amazing! It's wonderful video! Thank you for showing me how to make fur! I tried it for the first time! It's wonderful! Nice upload! And it's great high quality video! I really like it! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Greg, 👋This is a great video. 👍 Here watching you . Haven't seen anything like this before my first time. Hope everyone is well with you and your family AMEN. I have been so busy working. HAVE BLESSED WEEKEND. YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB 👏TFS. 🙏🥰❤
Hey Jake! I sure do appreciate ya takin time to watch, I hope I covered everything. If ya have any questions come up just shoot me a message and I’ll try and answer it. Thanks again brother 🙂🇺🇸🔥👍👍
Thank you for this. I've been trappin with my papa since I could walk but, we send our fur off to New York every year to get them tanned. With the prices of fur going down we don't send too much off anymore I hope this will help us!
Hey Eric! I sure appreciate you taking time to watch buddy. I hope it helps y’all out some. I send most of my furs off to Moyle mink and furs to have my bigger ones done. It’s got so expensive and nothing is paying anymore so it makes it tough. Those coons are probably the worst to do because of all the grease in em but the coyotes and foxes are a lot easier. Just don’t salt bath the foxes as long or they will slip. Thanks again for watchin 😊🔥👍👍
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing It appears from Moyle mink web site that they do not accept furs/hides from individuals, and that such hides need to be sent to them through a licensed trapper who is set up to do business with Moyle. I am in the Augusta, GA area and am thinking of getting some hides soft tanned for things like hats, gloves and such. Do you accept hides from individuals to be sent to Moyle or what would be my best way to get my goal accomplished. I would probably never have more than just a few at a time or say about 6 or so. I hope that you are well and doing good and will see this post. Thank you for the video and feedback on my comment.
Hello Mr Georgia Tapping and fishing you have lots of time doing this some people n folks don't realize you have lots of time in this I seen one of my uncle when I young boy do some of them down south Georgia Jeff Davis county I watch from start to the end good video thanks so much for sharing you have a good day n be safe 👍👍
Thanks a bunch Waterbug!! I really appreciate that buddy! Yeah It takes a while to do em but I enjoy it! Ain’t much money in it now days anyway lol 😂😊👍👍👍
Thanks Dominic! And thanks for watching! It works good as long as ya don’t get deeper than the fatty membrane! But is will sure grab up some fur if you’re not careful lol 😂👍👍👍👏
That’s awesome Craig, had no idea the time it takes to do one, let alone all the ones you did. Can’t wait for the chance to join ya and go through start to finish on a hide next season man! Keep em comin’ Brother!
Thanks so much my friend! I sure appreciate ya taking time to watch. I know it was a long one but I didn’t want to leave any steps out lol. I hope it works good for ya and if ya have any questions just shoot me an email . Thanks again! 😊🔥👍👏👏
im gonna be spending some time watching your vids for sure! I have beavers in the pond next to my yard an recently found a darn muskrat in the yard. My son would love to have their fur!
Oh thanks a bunch! 😊 I saw that big muskrat! You could get some nice pelts if ya get em lol. If I get some extras next season I’ll try to send ya a couple for him 👌 fur buyers aren’t paying much these days any way😂 I appreciate ya stopping by and watchin 😊👏👏👏
I sure appreciate ya watchin Hayden! I think coons are about the worst there is to get that grease out. Fox and coyotes are a lot easier lol. Thanks a bunch brother and I hope your season is going well 🙂🔥👍👍
.Wow my friend, an excellent job and a lot of work, recognition of that great job. Here they tan deer skins and finish the suede. To paint and tan the skins they use the bark of a tree called palo blanco. Greetings to my friend.
I started in on this video last night but got interrupted. There is a lot that goes into tanning a hide. I didn't know it took that many steps. Great video on how to do it.
Thanks a bunch! I hate it ran so long but I didn’t want to cut any steps out. It takes a good bit of time to do it but it’s kinda fun.I sure appreciate ya hangin in there and watchin 😊👏👏👏👍
I use mix & fine stock salt from the feed store. Its pretty cheap for 50lb. I've never tried that tanning solution, I've always made my own but I might just try it. Gonna try to tan the beaver I caught but I've never even skinned one before last week. Hoping I dont ruine it.
Awe you’ll do great AL! I’m glad ya got ya a beaver this year, they’re my favorite. Take a look at Jeromy Coooley’s last video on doin beavers. I really liked his skinning and salting. The orange bottle works really well and is just easier to me. Let us see how ya do buddy! 😊🔥👍👏👏
He said take it easy ! That hurts.. 😆😂 scratch the fat then beat him to death! Wtw! Yay a salt bath! What ? No calgon?# 🤣 thank you for sharing it with us... Appreciated! You have a great day and week
@@callahanoutdoors very cool! We don’t start here until December 1st. You’ll have to let me know how y’all are doing each week cause it will be killin me 😂😂👌 stay safe! 😊👍👍👊
Awesome Enos! I’m lookin forward to seein them. Mark J Larson got his a lot softer than mine on his videos but mine were fine for a walk display. I appreciate ya buddy! 😊👍👏👏🔥
Great video. I'm doing deer hides right now and your stuff popped up. I've got a road kill coyote , a coon and maybe a mink in the freezer I'm thinking of doin. We're up to our ears in coyotes and I've trapped and released 2 little bandits in my barn so far. Probably part of the gang that ate all my sweetcorn. The mama's going to get a bullet if I see her. Her and her gang relieved me of my flock of chickens the year before. I'm gettin soft in my old age I guese.
Hey Timothy! Sounds like you got your work cut out for ya! Best of luck on everything this year. Yep those critters can wipe out a chicken coop. I don’t blame ya for clearing them out lol. I sure do appreciate ya takin time to watch and the great comment. I always enjoy hearing what folks have going on. Thanks again buddy! 😊🇺🇸🔥👍👍
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing Thanks for the reply. Yeah the coons that got the chickens last year I caught two kits and released them but mama kept coming back so I put out a 220 for her. I don't like killing them for no reason but ma wouldn't go in the live trap. I think she'd seen one the year before when 2 of her other little shits got relocated. She would've been a keeper but it was middle of summer. I wasn't real mad about them getting in the corn cause I didn't put a hot wire and coons will be coons but the chickens pissed me off. I raised them birds from eggs.
@@timothylongmore7325 oh yes no doubt, ya got to protect your chickens 👌 I’m building a new coop this spring and I’ll definitely be watching for em! 😊👍👍
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing Me too. Gotta have those fresh eggs. I like to let em free range but if I forget to go out and close the coop , one time, they know lol. Got a new weasal friend to. Cleaning a road kill pheasant the other day and the cute little bastard popped out from under the barn lookin for scraps. Cat caught one in the house a couple years ago. skinned it. Open. Tacked it on a board and the beetles totaly devoured it! It was like skinning a malnorished kitten. Delicate work. Look forward to watching more of your vids. I've been thinking about getting back into trapping. Loved it when I was a kid. Trouble is NY requires a "course" to be qualified to get a licence. WTF. The emporer wants a piece of everything. Funding to pay the guys that harass you.
@@timothylongmore7325 I know that’s right brother. The Government always has their hand out lol. I hope ya get your license, I’d sure enjoy some more trappin videos! 😊👌 stay safe brother! 🙂🇺🇸🔥👍👍
Hey Ricky! I sure appreciate ya taking time to watch and and commenting. I wish I had the sewing skills to make one. I’ve thought about sending a few off and have them professionally done. Maybe one of these days I’ll give it a try, thanks for the great idea buddy! 😊👌🔥👍👍
Hello! Thanks for sharing this video! You did an amazing job on the tutorial from start to finish and were very detailed with the instructions. My 10 yr. old son is SO interested in tanning and hunting. He found this video on his own. Can you please share with me some different ideas of what to use the tanned skins for? Obviously a hat lol, but what are some other ways that you would use the tanned skins?
Hey there Amanda! I’m so glad your son enjoyed the video, I was worried it was kinda long lol. But ya can’t skip any steps so I just couldn’t cut it. It’s good to hear that he is interested in hunting and skinning. Maybe we will have another trapper in the works 😊. I’ve only had mine made into coon skin caps but I have seen mittens made with them and if you take the hair off it will basically be just leather and you could make gloves with them. I saw a girl make a quiver for her hunting arrows with them also. I sell a lot of mine for wall decorations also. I hope this helps and please tell him thanks for watching my video! I appreciate you taking time with your son and supporting his interests too! Y’all take care and thanks again! Craig 😊🔥
@@GeorgiaTrappingandFishing Thank you for this!!💓 Yes, I'm sure if he gets through this and loves it he will do it all the time!! If he was to just keep the leather, how do you remove the hair? Or do you have a video where you teach that?
@@amandaoswald3676 if he leaves the hide in the salt bath a little extra time the hair will come off. He may have to do a bit of scraping but it should come right off. Y’all let me know how it went and good luck with everything 😊👌
Hey very cool video man, that's alot work few days patience get them things like that. You have them looking real good.. do you sell them? I'd love one. And that hat looks good on ya man 🤘💯🍻
Hey there my friend! I sure appreciate ya taking time to watch. On my salt bath I used swimming pool salt. It’s a more course salt but it’s much cheaper than the table salt and works good. I think I got mine at Accadamy sports or Walmart. The table salt works best for the beginning salting and if you are doing feet on it’s easier to pack into the feet. Just make sure to use non iodized salt. And if you’re doing fox I wouldn’t leave it it the salt bath but a few hours, you may get some slippage. I hope this helps and I hope you’re hides turn out nice 😊🔥👏👏
Love the video great instruction. . .were gonna try some deer hides this fall here in NW PA. Saw your channel on some of Boxie`s stuff, finally got a chance to check your channel out, hit us up when you have time!
Thanks a bunch brother! I sure appreciate it! Let us see how your hides go when ya do some! I really enjoyed your ballistic gel live the other day, that took a lot of stirring lol 😊👍👍👍👊
Hey James! I just used pool salt from Walmart in the 25 pound bags cause I had so many hides to soak . For rubbing salt I used one pound containers from the grocery store. Just regular table salt. I hope this helps ya buddy and I appreciate ya taking time to watch 🙂🔥👍👍
Hey there my friend! I usually get my fur handling tools from F&T Trading Post. They carry a pretty good selection. I sure appreciated ya watchin and commenting! 😊🔥👍👍👏
Hey Racheal 👋 I used non-iodized salt. Any brand is fine, it takes a lot so get it where you find it the cheapest lol. I sure appreciate ya taking time to watch. Let me know how your hides turn out 😊👌👏👏
Hey Mario! No sir, I think if you have a fleshing machine like the ones the tannery uses you could do just as good a job. But it’s really tough to get them to the garment grade hides that they do. It’s completely fine for a walk hanger but if I’m doing hats or mittens I always send mine off to be professionally done. I hope this helps and if ya have any more questions I’d be glad to answer! Take care buddy 🙂🔥👍👍👏
