Very well detailed videos on how to execute the strokes (serves, pips, etc) congratulations. I have to say I have never thought of body weight transfer while performing a service. I have been very successful on my service game but always used hand/stroke and wrist deception to develop power or decrease it. I appreciate that technique which I agree on its results, very helpful. I was watching this video since I just moved from Anti to Short pimples, I found out how to use my hand when using the Anti by hitting hard flat balls and short punches so using faster short pimples now maybe be a lot more fun. The thumb technique is something I have to practice !!!! Makes sense !!!

What should I say: applying this technique I was able to generate a "rocket" BH with my extremely slow andro classic 0x (Barna/ Hardbat defence short pimples), awesome and my opponents are having no chance to return this extremely flat, hard and no-spin/ empty ball ;-) Just wondering if you can make a video for backhand oriented players,, like Ito and Ovtcharov: grip (only backhand grip vs neutral grip, advantages/ disadvantages in FH/ BH transition), stance (I noticed that Mima is mostly playing FH with a "BH stance" - assuming therefore she is quicker in reaction, same applies to playing FH with a BH grip, footwork patterns, etc. Would love to see that!

Been hitting short backhand punch with my thumb up with medium pips for years. It is the most natural way to hit a backhand short punch with a ball coming straight at you. Visualize punching the ball with the thumb up and a closed fist; it is much easier to get any quick directional power with the thumb extended towards the tip of the paddle. This quick kung fu style short punch stroke works very well with a Seemiller grip, too. Like the Seemiller grip, this technique doesn't lend itself to balls hit to the outside of your body where you have to reach for the ball, or long balls. if you have quick reflexes, play with medium or short pips, play close over the table, and move and receive the ball in front of you this backhand punch is a potent weapon to have. A professional boxer told me 50 years ago the most effective knockout punch is a properly executed six inch punch where you use your whole body. The same principle applies to this table tennis stroke. It also is easier to angle the balls sharply anywhere on the table with the short stroke, and returned balls often drop into the net because the balls have little spin.
