Regarding the cracks, here's what I've understood: 1. The cracks aren't *caused* by the panel liner, they're microfractures that the panel liner goes into and then exacerbates. Why they're there is any number of factors, maybe the plastic cracked during cooling or maybe the part was stressed in some way. 2. If someone's worried about this happening, all they need to do is simply gloss coat their model, then panel line and then top coat with whatever finish they want. Out of ~90 kits it's happened to me twice.

I always struggle with cleaning up the lines of ridges or edges. Seems to always get erased

Isn't that tamiya ink would crack the gunpla's?

To my understanding (I don’t have too much experience with Tamiya liner unfortunately) you can’t let it pool up too much and you shouldn’t use enamel thinner to clean it up. Rather use alcohol or lighter fluid. In addition to this, don’t line it when the kit is complete, rather ink it up while on the runner or when each piece is individually cut out. Of course, you can also clear coat like he mentions if you don’t trust the fluid on bare plastic

From what I read online tamiya enamel thinner (which is the fluid you use for cleaning but also the fluid where the panel liner pigments are diluted) tends to crack plastic when it can't evaporate properly so this is the reason why it doesn't always crack the plastic.
