Sherry, I just want you to know what a blessing you have been to my family. You have changed the way I homeschool - for the better. I love your notebooking pages because they are such quality, rather than a picture of the topic with a bunch of meaningless lines. You have inspired me in so many ways. Thank you for all you do. As a side note, as a Catholic I appreciated that you did not automatically dismiss the materials from Catholic authors. Such action is a testament of your true love of our Lord.

Thank you!! I was looking at science curriculum... realizing the time consuming books weren't going to be worth the expense. Then I remembered Sherry and came back to rewatch ❤

Thank you Sherry. I have an upper middle school son that just dislikes writing period. The reading and/or drawing/notebooking does seem to capture his attention longer. This info is such a blessing that I cannot say thank you enough!!

The nature readers you get get free domain from internet archive, the original ones, not in grade levels, but read the same, and have black and white pictures. They are called Nature Stories for Young Readers: Animal life, plant life, seaside and wayside (4 vols of those). I hope this is helpful to someone :)

I am so glad I found this video! I haven’t felt settled about how to go beyond simply reading science content. I’ve had my eye on the Christian Liberty Readers for several years and think your notebooking pages would be wonderful to use alongside them! I have the Handbook of Nature Study mammoth book 😅 and am still unsure how to delve into that. I purchased a 1st grade science textbook from Generations and am simply reading it with my daughter. I can’t wait to try your downloads! P.S. The end of this video was GREAT 😄 I love your humor!

Living Books Press has also reprinted some wonderful vintage science titles that I highly recommend. www.livingbookslibrary.com/living-library-press-2/ Also look for science authors such as Dorothy Childs Hogner, Robert McClung, Jeanne Bendick, Walter Buehr, Ruth Brindze, Olive Earle, Margaret Waring Buck, and Herbert Zim.

I love the simplicity and open-ended creativity that can take place with notebooking. Have you let your children choose their notebooking pages? Or do you usually choose for them? Can't wait to see the Common Place project that you have in the making! 😍
@MomDelights

Great questions! I suppose it depends on the situation. I have actually compiled a notebooking page "menu" of sorts in the past from which the children could choose the best format for what they were studying. I have also created specific notebooking layouts for a subject we were studying. It works for all types!

I love how you do science. It's got me thinking about how I could use some of these as substitutes for some of our Ambleside readings. The notebook pages looked wonderful.

Science has been hard for me to figure out in our homeschool. I always struggle to make time for it. I've tried to do the expensive textbooks, but have not been consistant in doing it. Some of my best memories are when we kept science simple and snuggled on the couch reading about animals and watching corresponding youtube videos. I really like how you shared how you tailor things for each child, letting the one who does not like writing doing her narration orally. That is very encouraging for me. Also, you have some incredible artists in your family. Wow! Those pictures are so good!
@MomDelights
@MomDelights 4 года назад
Thank you, Miranda. Those times cuddled together on the couch really are priceless, aren't they? Makes all of the difficulties pale in comparison to the many precious times we get to spend with our children that would be lost otherwise.

Thank you so much! This is so helpful. Sometimes I feel a little lost as to how to go about science and the science texts just don't spark interest in my kids. These book suggestions are great and the downloadable pages are super helpful. Thank you for putting the time into doing this. ❤
@MomDelights

That makes me so happy, Mandy! I know what you mean about the regular texts; none of us are sparked with interests by those other texts either ;P

This is such a balanced way to look at science and keep it in perspective. Thank you for actually showing the resources you use for those of us that need to see them. Keeping lessons streamlined and not overly fussy helps to respect our children as they are developing into the people that God has created them to be with unique interests and talents. Sometimes I find it hard to keep subjects living and not feel bad or "guilty" because I am using a more modern book with CM methods, and I am sure I'm not alone in this. She was wise enough know things would change over time, especially in science.
@MomDelights
@MomDelights 3 года назад
That's a good point. I often look at resources and think, "I wonder what CM would have thought about this," and I often think she would have been pleased with some of it, although I'm sure there are some things she would definitely not appreciated. I think Tiner's works fit well within her ideals for "twaddle free" books. He does not talk down, and there is more of a narrative going through his books that attempt to connect a lot of different disciplines together, which is what organic, lasting learning looks like without schooling.

I have the nature readers and am looking forward to using them this year. What grade would you say is good for the Exploring...... books? Thank you for the free notebooking pages!
@MomDelights
@MomDelights 5 лет назад
I think a good reader at the fifth or sixth grade level should be able to read Exploring Planet Earth and Exploring the History of Medicine. Exploring The World Around You is probably more for the middle grades, and then the other books in the series would be at the middle school and above levels.
