I am a MASSIVE overthinker and overanalyzer, and never developed a proper sense of self, or what psychologists refer to as Individuation, and feel like I tend to constantly unwillingly spiritually bypass due to misinterpretation. Hearing about different dimensions, time doesn’t exist, life is just an illusion etc., all of this took me out of my human experience. Now I’m really lost. In my search to help myself I always end up with these kind of spiritual teachings and meditation, however, as I try to apply them, I notice that it rather makes me worse instead of better. It makes sense because as far as I understand, they serve to learn to not be caught in the ego, but this lack of Individuation, feeing dissociated and already detached from myself, not feeling like a person, makes me wish I had more of an ego. I really want to know whether these practices might be counterproductive for someone like me, at least until I have developed a proper sense of self and feel like a person. You say that being aware of awareness is not the same as an awareness-object relationship and taking a backward step to that what I am aware of. But it’s actually this relationship that I want to acquire, because that way I feel like an actual person with an experience. Does that make sense? What I’m asking is, can you imagine that this kind of spiritual pursuit can be harmful for some people because my mind just gets way too confused and overwhelmed and misinterprets everything. It’s as if my perception works different to most people. I’m scared to ask this question because you’ll likely give a no as an answer, but I know what I’m describing is true for me. I feel much better with practices that bring me into my body and work to raise awareness of sensual perceptions. Not just sensation though; literally anything that is part of my EXPERIENCE... sensation, thoughts, feelings, judgements, anything... When I’m in that state where I’m aware that I do have these, I feel whole, like a person, and from there I’m also more in control of them and can decide what to do with them. It’s like I arrive at the same destination that you’re describing (or at least the same direction), but through a completely different, actually opposite, approach...
This was very helpful. Honestly. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this for so long and have watched so many videos. I think this is the first time I’m actually getting it. Thank you 🙏🏽
Thanks Sunny! I was about to live my everyday life trusting my ability to remain present in whatever context but not long after mind was already chasing after things and suffered. I guess no matter how much one keeps saying you don't really PRACTICE self-inquiry as you ARE awareness and awareness doesn't really 'do' anything. That idea kind of legitimated me to just look for awareness in other activities in the past days. I've decided to follow your suggestions and engage in a daily practice of meditation until I can feel the presence constantly in everyday life. After one day I'm already feeling present again. Thank you, I'm keeping that up
This is just pure gold to me this is what meditation truly is. The realization for me was ok there is a observer of one’s thoughts and emotions body etc. However their I also the being which observes the having of the awareness of the experience.
I often say to myself, when I dont feel the Presence - "I lost it" But when I have this thought the last time-"I lost it", something strange happened... I asked myself - how do I know that I lost it, and if I know, then that means that I am aware that "I lost it" And if I am aware, what I have lost then??? And that made some deep shift, I cant explain it, please comment, if you have the time, thank you!
Great video that made us aware of our awareness of listening and grounded to our beingness. No words to express our gratitude for ur empowering videos that enrich us helping us shedding the cloak of personhood which is a great liberation frm suffering and ignorance. Thank you once again immensely for ur videos and pointers.
I’m glad I found your channel through r/Alan watts subreddit, thank you for the sense of I 🤟🏾, I definitely feel every word you’re saying & I got teary eyed at certain parts from this video. Thank you again!!
Hello Sunny, have you watched any Theo Live of past 2-3 months? He has seemingly attained a complete Being in conscious awareness and Always at rest. All from his study of Ramana Maharashi. And when watching him see how his eyes never moves because he is speaking from pure conscious awareness. Namaste PS. He definitely is not spiritual or politically "correct", he is simply his true self.
The best self enquiry video I have ever listened to in 30 years. Sunny 2 questions 1. Being aware of being aware is not duplicity because awareness very nature is being aware of itself in other words there are ' not two'? Being and awareness are one ? Correct? 2. I understand self abidence brings a state of peace or let's say removes all ignorance but is it fair to say ( even though its beyond concepts) one eventually finds ' god' or recognises one is god or let's says realised the true nature of everything?
Happy the video resonated! 1) yes being aware of awareness is not like being aware of any object. It just brings you to the acknowledgement of being, of being aware. To seeing that you are that which is aware. 2) yes it dissolves outwardness(immersion in name and form) into inwardness(self awareness - knowing yourself free from all association). To know yourself, be yourself.
Hi Sunny, this is burning question ive had for a while if "I know" that im listening,or looking ..there is a gap.. a peace ...a no-thing.. is that the I am.. does one keep bringing attention to "that" which is listening or looking can it be that simple?...and thankyou for this wonderful channel
Yes it is that simple, yield to the simplicity. Return to the subject of your experience, that which is aware. This is Self Awareness. This is the mind resting in the heart, I am.
I would also make a distinction between thinking and conscious thinking - ie Sunny you are talking on video as consious thinking, when we study something it can be very consious thinking (although not necessary) - most of the time we are on unconsious loop of thinking but still I would make distinction of rare consiousness thinking
Conscious thinking or as I like to call it working mind, just happens. It doesn't really even feel like a personal doing. It doesn't make you personal-self-conscious. There's no identification in it. It's just life at play. Whereas psychological chatter is what creates past and future and moulds the person we take ourselves to be. This is probably 95 percent of thinking and can be disengaged from :)
who is the I that wants to exist outside the body? who is the I that falls asleep asking who am I and wakes up still asking who am I ? Who is this that senses someone, something always watching, am I you... I even give you imaginary eyes... buy I still feel separate.
@@ziomarasawyer7069 The 'I' (or 'Self', with a capital S), that, is 'In' you, is what is referred to as: Consciousness/Witness/Observer/Awareness/Grace... (also, as Atman, Brahman....). Ziomara, re you new to these concepts? In 2019 I had an experience that baffled me as to what had happened. Two years passed before I had an answer - and it was Advaita Vedanta (particularly Jnana Yoga). I had to start from scratch and began watching every Vedanta video (and everything under that category) that I could find to figure this out. This journey led me to many teachers and to some amazing Guru's - and all via youtube and internet, because where I live (Orlando, FL) there are no such groups. I bought a bunch of books too. It all really depends on 'you' and how eager 'you' are to want to know. It comes from a deep sensing within you - like a knock on a door. Remember, EVERYTHING is within YOU. Like the saying goes "the kingdom of God is within you" --- it IS. It's 'all' already there - within. Even Quantum Physics speaks on these subjects. Several early famous physicists (recipient of the Nobel Prize) had understanding on Advaita Vedanta. Look it up (if you wish) and you will be surprised. Let me know. Om Shanti
Thank you so much SUNNY .Is Awareness in heart as I too experience or it is all over as Nisarg datta Maharaj says in I AM which is not my experience? Please clear this to me .is first in heart & latter all over when concept of me as limited body vanishes ? Thanks in anticipation i had Darshan of Nisargdatta Maharaj 10days before samadhi.
What is referred to as the heart is not the physical heart in the body. The heart of your entire experience IS the awareness I am. And it never has any location, despite us understanding or not understanding this. Explore I am and you will confirm this
like something that triggers me and i am dealing with that particular thing at that time physically, i get lost and panicked , so will it help to see behind all this i am i.
