Ok but in the first example you're making the strokes too long, if the movement you do with your hand is shorter that technique would work as well. Not to mention you didn't second passed over the first one as you did on the second one so.. that's why you got much more saturation

Hi. Its hard to tell it in words. For softshading the pressure is like a feather rub against a skin. With lining its more like pressure of a pen on paper
