This video shows a typical early intervention speech therapy session with me, Kayla Chalko. In this video, I show how to do speech therapy with toddlers at home. I coach the parent on how to help her late talker learn new words and play skills. This little boy is 15 months old and learns very quickly. These are clips from his first one-hour session.

I liked this video simply because you were so transparent about how little a toddlers attention span is, so many RU-vid videos make it seem as though something is wrong if you can’t sit your toddler down for an hour a day reading and learning. I like many FTM get sucked into these unrealistic expectations of what it should be, when in reality they edited out all the times the child lost interest. It took me a while to get out of that train of thought and use common sense and realize that I have a toddler and toddlers can’t and won’t sit still to look at flash cards for an hour.

Whenever they feel that the people they're familiar with are close to them, then it would be an okay, most of the time (not all. As different house, different treatments coming from the family members) The most important thing kids this age need is feeling safe, and the people living together with them should provide that "safety feeling" strong before letting the kids meet strangers.

I have a 3 years old nephew. He has speech delay and starts living with our family (my mom and dad) when he was 2 years old. i have opportunity to do activities just like what the therapist did and he can speak now! It just takes some times and works. Never give up if your child cant speak and never neglect if your child is "not like other child". It is better to take early action.

How old was the baby in this vid when it was recorded? My currently 29month old is a bit slow in speech im thinking maybe because of biligualism but he does love throwing ball back and forth. Easily loses interest tho and finds new things to do. His favorite is watching things soin. Fans, dryer etc. Loves clicking on every little buttons and switches that has cause and effect i.e lights household items that makes noise, air purifier, u name it. Has a hard time sitting down and wait for me to read him something, he rather goes for the book himself and flips the pages and dont usually let me read to him. He makes it clear to me he wants to go downstairs to see the dryer/washer by making sound they produce and pulling my hands. Hes obsessed with it. But once it satisfy, he will without fuss follow me back upstairs for other things. Help

Sometime he said mama baba repeatedly but i recognize he didn’t even know who’s exactly mama he can’t express his word with relationship. Kindly tell me in which way i teach him. I really like all the different activities that you show. I really appreciate you putting this out here for parents. What are your thoughts on that?

I’m a worrier by nature and when my son was 3 months he would mimic “I love you”, granted it was babble but it was 3 syllables. I have a video. Anyway after he got his 3 month vaccines it completely stopped. He just turned two and doesn’t mimic, granted he knows some words and s animal sound and then just yesterday I said “whats that” and he repeated it. I’m just a mental gymnasium right now with worry when most likely everything is fine

@@WalkieTalkieSpeechTherapy Just out of curiosity, what were the reasons he started speech therapy? In other words, what were things we was not doing that he should have been doing for his age? Just curious because he's definitely more advanced than my almost 16 month old so I'm not exactly sure why he's in speech therapy. We were told by the pediatrician that he's a little behind with communication but that it's really hard to qualify for Early Intervention before 18 months.

Is this mostly for those who may potentially have autism? I notice a lot of emphasis on the child engaging. My daughter is very engaged with other people and may even use gestures, movements and the first syllable of a word to explain what she wants, she’s just not the best at pronouncing and multiple syllable words or phrases. She will be 24 months in a couple of weeks. Is this sort of speech therapy indicated for her?
