For those watching this amazing tutorial, You can slow down the playback speed to 2 times slower. You find those settings on the gear symbol right next to the close caption CC icon. That way you can see his hands movements in slow motion. It helped me a lot.

That's crazy! My father played with him when they both played with Tito Puente... My dad's name is Victor Cruz who also played with Ceila Cruz right up to when she passed away. He also was part of the All Stars.

Don't forget the origin of all these rhytms is Cuba!!

Very interesting alternative take on the martillo, I really didn’t know there were variations on it. Luckily I got to see Dandy in the 80s at SOBs here in NYC when I was in my early 20s, with Charlie Palmieri. I was floored, I simply couldn’t believe the pop and tones he pulled out of the bongo. Arguably the greatest ever on the instrument, maybe?

That “martillo” is just the golpe. The golpe is based on the one you do in Guaguanco in Cuban Rumba on requinto. It’s the most important part of Bongo and requinto playing. The riff always ends on the 3-side of the clave. This lick is what makes Afro-Cuban music go

Hey man I had a question I want to know your full opinion on the custom deluxe congas from toca because I am trying to get some good congas for around three $350-$400 Or if you have a better set of congas you can recommend me Not Congas for beginners I want A professional set of congas for that price please
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 5 лет назад
The custom deluxe Tocas for the price are great! especially the Fiberglass... really depends on the type of drums you want though... wood or fiberglass... Meinl Marathons are ok.. Their Professional series are way better but a bit more... LP matadors for that price are great... you can never go wrong with LP Classics... I've heard the tocas and they sound really good... Wouldn't be a bad purchase in my opinion, but it really depends on the style material you want your drums to be.

Hi Eric, thanks for your videos again. I have a question. I see people, included myself beating the drums with just one or two fingers and others with the whole hand. It works for me better playing with just one or two finger, otherwise it sounds muffed to me. What do you think personally? or anybody else any ideas?
@APercussionLife
@APercussionLife 5 лет назад
It all goes down to technique... I've seen the same and a lot of people are able to get such a projection from a couple or fingers... but what I've learned is that as long as you're main principle are fingers (to an extent) and you're avoiding injury and you're getting proper projection then you're on the right path... If you notice Anthony Carillo's positioning vs Dandy's... completely different.. but both highly respectable.
