This gives me a whole new appreciation for guys like Brock, Lashley, and Riddle. To be able to do pro wrestling punches and then actually fight someone in real combat is just crazy. The shifting back and forth between two totally different things while making them look alike.
Anyone know how some people make their kicks sound so good without slapping their knee? What else do they do? Thank you so much in advanced😊 stay blessed❤
I love these videos. This stuff is sort of like an anti-martial art. Lots of repetitive practice to get good, but instead of maximizing damage you're trying to minimize it. I'm going on 40 in less than a year and am probably a bit too old to get started (there's something to be said for being in good physical shape and free of nagging injuries) but a big part of me regrets not giving this stuff a shot when I was younger.
Hey it’s never too late. I’m starting Tuesday, and if I’m just wrestling in the local promotion only than that’s fine with me. I just want to give it a shot rather than think what if. Boogeyman didn’t start wrestling until he was 40, and look what happened for him. You never know.
Well, if you get in shape you could probably do it..your body isn't as damaged as someone who's done it 10 20 yrs. No spring chicken but still could give it a go imo on indy circuit for few yrs just to say you did try it..plus old school guys done it well into 50s.
@@greato80 I'm actually in really good shape, especially for someone my age -- it's not that I couldn't do it in theory. It's just that aches and pains I could just shake off when I was younger can stick around for days, and moving *just* the wrong way can put a shoulder or joint out for a week or longer. Getting older ain't no picnic, and I don't want to aggravate something that could bother me in my fifties and beyond... still, I appreciate the good wishes. :)
wow, good lecture vid! i learned a bit about how do i punch on guy's chin / jaw in a professional wrestling match. i'm so lucky, thank you so much, Santino Bros Wrestling.
Keith Cox Now Brodie Lee is TNT champ 😎 Really impresses how well Dark Order turned it around. Bummed me out when people didn’t like them at first. Super smash bro’s (former name for Uno, and Stu) have been one of my favorite teams for a long time. It’s nice to see them get the exposure they deserve. TNT title is hands down the top “midcard” title in North America. Brodie Lee is the the perfect number 2 champion after the AEW title. His squash over Cody, and bout with Moxley makes it feel legit.
Something I had down as a child with my brother, was our art of selling, we never listened to those commercials when they said “Don’t Try This At Home.” We knew it was an art not to actually hurt each other. Me and my brother always did this really well as children. 😂
Just turned 36 years old I wrestled a bit in HS and in Jr college always wanted to try pro wrestling might give it a try soon. Naysayers say I'm too old
To heck with the naysayers. Do what makes you happy and don't live life with woulda coulda shoulda. Our oldest graduate completed the program at 50 years old. He even wrestled in Japan.
If your body is good and you can move without blowing up, hell go for it dude. I'm no wrestler myself but I've got 41 years experience getting older and my body don't recover as quickly as it used to do maybe, JUST MAYBE try and go may wrestling and stay off ladders and taking high risk bumps.. it's still your decision tho it's your body. If you feel you can do it I'll come to your show if you ever wrestle west coast Norway 😛
Great video and really good break down. I like it that you take your time explaining each move. For me, no one had better punches than the excellence of execution Bret Hart!
This is so cool, there's a lot of "behind the scenes" or "how to" videos on wrestling, but you don't really realize just HOW MUCH goes into such a simple, basic thing as a worked punch in wrestling.
Love pro wrestling, have no desire to BE a pro wrestler - but I enjoy watching these seeing how everything is broken down and how everything is done so it rides that line of looking convincing/larger than life AND being safe.
If you’ve trained boxing this is difficult to learn, it’s literally the opposite of boxing. In boxing you keep your fist loose and tighten when your about to connect. In wresting you keep your fist tight and loosen when your about too connect lol, pro wrestling is such a great art, I’m hoping to start training soon one of these days.
Since me and my brother were kids we could sell a fake fight. We had blood capsules from Halloween had the whole neighborhood thinking we beating the crap out of each other. I always loved Hollywood fight scenes as a kid. I developed some ground and pound that looked real with blood everywhere when done. Next day we had makeup on for black eyes. Everyone bought it our mom made us tell tge neighborhood we were full of b.s. haha.
@@callum6511 I have thought the same about other brothers relationship. My brother was 5 years older than me and would put real punches in on me as well. He had anger issues that wound up leading to a suicide by drug overdose later on in life. I tell the truth here just so you can realize it always looks greener somewhere else. We did have a lot of fun as well. Take care, I got all deep. Lol
I loved the old days of Kayfabe and the mystery that was wrestling but things change and I'm just glad we can now really appreciate what great illusionists so many of the great wrestlers were and how easy they could work an audience to get them to suspend disbelief. One of the worse things to happen to wrestling back in the day was in the 1980's cable wrestling and the slow motion camera shots. Looked cool watching a Bobby Eaton rocket launch off the top rope in slo mo but even the best can't hide the subtle secrets at that speed. Big mistake that old TV studio wrestling would never make. Thanks again Santino Bros.
Another point I've learned from watching wrestling is the foot stomp as you punch to give it that impact sound..or sometimes the guy taking punch does stomp.
Been in for over 22 years and also have done a fair amount of mma and jits. I have noticed that it's a subjective thing, with exceptions for full blown missing, because it's a fake punch being judged by someone who (most often) doesn't know how to throw a real punch and they (the critic/coach) know you are throwing fake punches so they have the high ground and a position of power to say "getting better", "needs work", or "looks fake" this is more about maintaining the power relationship than solely on bad work. Just learn to wrestle for real, then you won't rely on punches, and you won't need to punch, most professionals do not understand martial arts drilling, kata, technique and think a fight is all brute strength and will.
That's impressive. We seen in "Exposed!: Greatest Pro-Wrestling Secret", in the punch, it seems real punch, only got to do it's open fist l, doesn't pack, the punch in the guts, it seems slow-motion, shown the fist is gently punch and reaction of punch in the guts.
I recently watched Stevie Richards' video where he was breaking down Barry Horowitz's punches among other things, and he talked about of a lot of the same kind of things! (Horowitz is not just maybe my favorite "jobber" of all time, but one of my favorite wrestlers period. He was just freaking SMOOTH in the ring, ya know?)
It's not as painful as you might think as we train to take the least amount of damage. but a taking a bump is compared to getting hit in car at 35 mph.
Mr. Kaos, question... Ravishing Rick Rude used to do "The Rude Awakening". How do you do that maneuver and not injure your opponent? This is probably the only move in wrestling I can't figure out, without an injury occurring. Thank you.
I remember Mox talking about it in his book sitting in on wrestling training see a guy throw great looking punches and drop kicks to students but the students feeling almost nothing. To me that's cooler than doing it for real
It’s funny, i’m a boxer, the best way to punch is pull back immediately after you connect hard you’re supposed to immediately pull back. That creates the most force at point of impact.
No it doesn’t, it’s the complete opposite. Punching through the target creates the most power. Maybe you were taught that in the context of bringing your hands back to guard
@@HkFinn83 i misspoke. It is more force if your drive your punch through the target, but when your goal is to cause the head to snap when you connect and recoil they can’t roll with the punch which causes their brain to shake more. Obviously the main goal is to bring your punches right back to guard, but for head shots there’s also more nuance to punching than simply generating as much force as possible. But force wise your correct, punching through does cause more force but ultimately can dampen the damage.
That was interesting. I have always wondered how Hulk Hogan was doing that at the start of the lumberjack match against Macho man Randy Savage from 1986
This is a great video, super helpful! I’ve been having trouble throwing kicks to the stomach, and my karate experience gave me some muscle memory that’s tough to override. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
i remember in Karate class my teacher would tell me to hit a board if i felt pain, then i hit it too hard, and i am stepping in to it . in training its good, after many bloody knuckles and 6 months later i finally learned to do punches properly , where it doesnt hurt me lol
Thank you for the video. I like punches to the midsection in wrestling and I also have a belly punching compilation video for Mylo on my channel. I like Santino Bros Wrestling!
this video is really good i took up wrestling training recently i did combat sports for decades though so my brain kinda broke trying to learn the working strikes.
