It was definitely an interesting learning experience for me as well. I am glad she passed and should be the last time she ever has to do any inspection other than shipping her home!
Thanks for the information, very informative and valuable for newcomers to the island like me. I just bought a cheap beater that is going to need JCI in one year. Which naturally gives me a ton of time to deal with any possible issues that may be an issue for a beater. I feel better knowing what they are generally looking for. Should be easy enough to sort through the vehicle before having to JCI it next year.
Cool! Never saw how the test was done before. Usually just paid the dealership. Repair of anything out of order is included in the price along with anti rust treatment and refreshing the AC. Thanks for sharing.
Its truly amazing, we walked almost the entirety of Bunkyo Tokyo. I'm shocked at how amazing this place is compared to California. The food, the culture, the technology, everything is better!! Lol
I'm glad they don't have that strict of inspections here haha. They really don't care as long as the horn, lights, tail lights and blinkers work(rebuild titled cars). Did make me laugh when the guy killed it though. As always, keep up the great work bro!
Dude I am so glad inspections aren't like this is the states. SC doesn't have any inspections so that is definitely where I will be registering my car. I laughed when he stalled it but inside I was crying lol
Dam I wondered what that sound was and then you mentioned bugs, loudest bugs I have ever heard! Is the DMV in Japan as slow as it is in America? I swear every time I go in there its packed! When you said the guy had to take a drive to test the 4WD I could only imagine the guys taking the Ferrari for a test drive in Ferris Buehlers day off lmao! I really like your Nissan Nismo shirt, I cant believe you failed for those little problems, it seems like there inspections are pretty in depth and strict. Im really glad we dont have to pass inspection here in Michigan, so many cars up here would fail if we had to haha! Its sad to hear you say you only have 10 months left in Japan, I love your channel definitely the most entertaining on RU-vid thanks for always trying to get to everyone's comments as well!
Hahaha thats what was going through my head when he said he needed to drive it. Luckily he only took it around the building. I am super glad we have no inspections in SC! Plenty more videos to come in the 10 months left for sure!
That's a really extensive inspection process. On one hand its good cause it makes sure all cars on the road are %100. On the other hand it makes me appreciate my MA inspection where I give a dude $35 to honk the horn and look at the brake lights lol
Looks good, bro! The LTO nearest Atsugi just will not allow self-shakens by SOFA members at all. They want "base inspection" paperwork. I tried to do it myself and ended up going to Zama. Thank you for the video.
luckily the base inspection is only $35 dollars or so. Essentially the piece of paper we get from the base is a "self-Shaken", but it also means that we don't do any of the tests at thee LTO. I did a video on my experience there if you're bored.
when you remove the castle nut, flip it around, put it back on and hit it with hammer, no more mushrooms. Better yet, let Mason do it, no torn up stuff and task complete in half the time.
Just went through this inspection, everything is pretty much the same. I failed for a broken 3rd brake light(wire on the plug was pulled out), a expired sticker on my windshield and ride height being 3 cm too low. Fixed it the same day, then went back to show them those items were fixed. Easy day
Hey man, Im in Okinawa and I was wondering when there will be a car meet/show during the day. I really want to get out and take some photos of all the cars that I grew up loving!
Ok cool. Cars and Coffee is every other month. Customs Night is every 4th Saturday night. There is a Autocross type event next Saturday. If you have Facebook you can follow me on there and I will post events sometimes or you can message me when you are trying to find something car related to do and maybe I will know of something
In the Ireland insurance for the honda prelude 2.2 3500 euro and road tax in a year 950 euro....If you have GTR probably you can get insurance if you get, price should be sky-high...one shanc classic car insurance...so enjoy your time in Japan :)
Your really need to get underneath check for obvious things like track rod bellows damage and brake hose missing bolts BEFORE you swing by the Inspection Center.
Its seems they think the cars are on a race track lol,Nice to see ya wrenching again tip for removing any threaded rod place nut on to three threads hammer away might need to replace nut but not assembly, nice job seems like a huge money grab tho !
So we've always seen this insanely crazy modified cars getting around japan? How do they go about getting them passed? or is there dodgy places that will pass your car like in AUS.
Darn those cicadas are loud! Here in Yamaguchi too - like an unwanted alarm clock! I'll be doing my own JCI (shakken) next year, because I'm sick of having to take off wheels, spacers, interior lights, etc, just for that!
Wow they sure do inspect the crap outta cars there. Kinda glad we don't have that here in the U.S. But then again some cars here definitely shouldn't be on the road lol.
Looking down in the comments and im like in Greece you just take your car to KTEO and all they do is check it up see if it's good and you are ok but you cant have your engine swapped unless you go through some ridiculous rules :/!!! Are you going to keep the gtr for 10 months or are you going to ship back in America? :D
My guess is to check that it matches what is on the title. In Japan when you do a motor swap or trans swap you have to change the tittle to reflect that.
huh pretty much similar inspection to the one done in my country, just that here, depending on the humor of the guy doing the inspection might try to get you failed specially in emissions...
YourCarBro Congrats on gettin' the job done, bro.🙌 Very interesting to see this process and what all is involved. I remember you were going to do the Evo, but didn't get to. I think it's very cool that you documented the process to help others see and understand what all is involved. Good man, Spencer!👍👏 About the ball joint, someone else mentioned hitting the side of the casting. Another tip I use is anytime you have to hit a part with a thread on the end, just loosen the nut a few turns, then strike the top of the nut to prevent damaging the shaft threads. Also, if possible use a lead or brass hammer (something softer than the part you are striking). Thanks again for all you do and have a great day, brother.🙋
The reason why he is staring under the hood is because he is looking for illegal mods so he can pop you. He was staring hard because for some reason he seems to think that you did and was looking as hard as he could; since, as you are ready know you have to produce the documentation that those mods are approved and not illegal. What did you expect, you are foreigner in a Skyline and there is only one reason why a foreigner would buy one - to have fun!
thats i hate shaken cause more money you fuel the more money you pay if i am a senator i would remove the road tax and instead replaced it by a new law
