I do the opposite. I have a bow to stern line on the boat that I reach out to put over a cleat on the dock where I want the stern to be. This line both holds the bow close to the dock as well as prevents the boat from going too far forward, either in a slip or into another boat at the dock.

I dock like this all the time, alone with 10 guests on boat, you can do same thing in couple of ways. Your way is not only way

Its tough at first. I work at a boat rental club when I started, I was expected to be able to drive and park each boat a few days after I started. What I tell people when they’re learning is to get the bow close enough to the dock and actually hop out and guide it in with your hand. Can be sketchy in wind but it can help in a sticky situation.

Please clarify if you leave the motor running, in gear, or turn it off first to drift in before you leave your boat. Too many novice boaters will think they can just jump out of the boat at anytime.

Biggest tip I can give you, is take your time, and to not worry about anyone waiting for you. Forget everything else and you’ll be fine!

same thing but opposite. just learn how to control your speed, assess factors like wind/current, & understand how to swing the boat around.

He can just drive closer to the dock and fix that 5 feet gapp in 10sec, he showed how its done, you are being old smart ass...

When you're on your own and don't want to hit the dock with a $100k boat - YES that's how it's done! I've docked flawlessly on inlets with 12kn water speeds and never touched the dock! I used to freak other boaters out at the Fuel Dock - Dock Master would be yelling at them "NO he's got it; don't touch the boat!"

Um, no. Too much power in calm conditions might lead to a crash or overshoot the dock. Capt Ron piloting is not always the best way.

There is a test. If you have the $ to buy the boat, you’ve officially passed the test.

if you're amateur then yes😂🤣 and if you have ever driven a boat you just do as in the video but better

@@dominicojala4944 Issue with backing the stern toward the dock at the end is that your boat ends up 2-3’ from the dock (like in the video). You do need someone on the dock to pull you in. Instead, if you turn away from the dock and bump it forward, the momentum will continue to carry your boat toward the dock. You should only back toward the dock if the bow is inches from touching. He didn’t do that in the video.
