not even half the Power the Carolingian even had in Europe in our history they where the closes one to recreating a western roman empire pretty much why Charlemagne was throne Emperor being the Defacto successor after 300 years

It might be overpowered however fun but I believe that in the ,,HRE path" you should get some CBs on princes that are either heretic or on those that spawned the centre of reformation so that you could take that under control, or maybe some mechanic that allows you to be protestant emperor before the 30 years war

Do the Empire path! I'd love to see Evil Emperor Lothair reunite his ancestor's former Empire through force. Consider the Espionage idea if you do it, it's got a little bit of everything you'd want while fighting in the HRE.
