I don't wear make up and find even if I go out for a couple of hours, when I cleanse my skin, I am horrified by the dirt from pollution etc. Guess this is what living in London does. I wear sunscreen too so I am strongly thinking about starting with an oil based cleanse first just because of this.

I am 73 and I have always just washed my face or used wipes, but I have been having a lot of trouble with my skin lately so have backed off from using a lot of skin products. One thing I have always done and still do is take my eye makeup off with Vaseline. Now I have started to double cleanse and am using just Tretinoin and a good moisturizer at night and a good moisturizer and sun screen in the morning. Every time I try to introduce anything new to my skin like serums or Vit. C it gets red and dry flakey patches. So, like Dr. Dray says-simple is better. She is such a sweet, intelligent person-I just love her!

I’ve been double cleansing for five years, now, even though I wear very little makeup. It’s the sunscreen that’s so difficult to remove, especially when I may have 3-4 layers of it at the end of a summer day when the sun shines until 9 pm! I must say that in that time, I have not suffered from whiteheads at all! I only wish I had known about this all the years I taught riding lessons and trained horses! My idea of double cleansing back then was to wash my face with soap and water over the bathroom sink, and then wash it again in the shower!🤦‍♀️. I can’t believe now that I was so clueless🤷‍♀️🤣

I have the same issue, so I remove my eye makeup first w Bioderma then proceed with a double cleanse. With the Bioderma removing 99% of my eye makeup I only require a light follow up cleanse of the eyes, no more blurry eyes now that I use this method. Sometimes there is residual makeup around my eyes, I remove that w micellar water (Bioderma) & cotton swab.

@@Jennifer-uc2oh was just about to say the same! The Bioderma Sensibio is the BEST! Does not sting my very sensitive eyes at all. For my forehead and body, I use Aveeno Restorative Skin Therapy Body Wash. I’ve found the eye makeup removers specific for that purpose (Lancôme, Estée Lauder and the less expensive drug store brands)to be extremely gentle and non-stinging, plus they don’t leave a film over your eye like a micellar water or an oil. After spending a ton on nice products I was your nighttime routine and went to double cleanse. AMAZING RESULTS for dirt cheap. Good old fashioned Jergens or Ponds cold cream. Then coconut oil for waterproof mascara. I don’t find cleansing oil or cold cream breaks it down sufficiently. I wet a clean facecloth, (washcloth) in hot water, wring it out and set the warm cloth on my face, letting it sit for a few seconds, then wipe everything off. Super duper relaxing. I don’t use a cleanser afterward. I do use oil of Olay original or sometimes more cold cream. I faithfully use tretinoin from Dr. and then benzoyl peroxide gel every night (I have significant hormonal acne still at 53). This routine keeps my complexion clear of pimples, shiny and pink and really nice. No irritation, no fortunes spent, no makeup left on, no mascara residue, no acne. Thank you for your channel.

I double cleanse at the sink each night but due to my acne prone skin have always followed up any cleanse routine with an oil free non-comedogenic 'toner'...not to 'balance' out my skin but to ensure I've removed ALL residue, that could be lingering on my face, down my neck or around my ears. Then proceed with any active topicals and a moisturizer. :)

Tried the Neutrogena makeup remover melting balm and Ponds fragrance free cold cream. My reactive skin does not like the harder textured Neutrogena. My face feels uncomfortable and turns red. The Ponds light creamy texture slips onto my skin easily and I can move it around without discomfort or redness. Ponds "pampers" my skin and it is a super value! Edit: Also tried the Aveeno Calm and Restore sensitive skin oat cleanser and my skin hates it, especially near the eyes. Oh well. Next will try Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser. If need be, will try La Roche Posay Toleriane Gentle Cleanser.

Her tip of not using cleanser in the morning is life saver. I now use my cleanser in the morning only on the nose and forehead if they're oily and they generally are not. It has made such a huge difference! My skin barrier was completely damaged by continuous use of tretenion without using a moisturizer at all throughout the day (yeah, can you believe an actual dermatologist instructed me to do this). As it's repairing (thanks for my new dermatologist), not using cleanser twice a day has greatly helped.

I have found that double cleansing is the best, least irritating way to remove eye make-up. I've tried coconut and olive oil and can say they create more of a mess to get off my skin then using an oil cleanser with emulsifying ingredients. If you're in search of a reasonably priced oil-cleanser I found both BioDerma Atoderm (fragrance) and Uriage Xémose (fragrance free) to be really great products. The Xémose is my favorite because it is fragrance-free; I like it so much that I now use it as my body wash as well. Both can be found on Amazon. BioDerma I can also find in CVS stores. Enjoy!

I started double cleansing about 2 years ago after hearing about it on this channel. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I can’t believe I spent 40+ years using only a DOVE BAR SOAP 😭 to wash off all my makeup! And kept wondering why my persistent acne and rosacea never improved….sheesh… Now I use Bioderma Sensibio to remove eye makeup ( only thing that does not irritate my eyes) then I go in with Clinique Take off the day balm, splash to emulsify and rub it gently around face, and gently wipe that off with a wet cloth. Then finish up with Cerave foaming cleanser. I wear sunscreen and full makeup daily and, since switching to this routine, my skin has improved immensely! Softer, less irritated, no more stripped skin feeling that I used to get with the Dove soap.

I can't imagine not double cleansing. There is just no other way to adequately cleanse without using too much friction. I do find that I'm a little bit fussy about which ones I like. I like solid balms that liquefy really well on dry skin. (Banila, clinique). They have some fragrance and ingredients I don't like, but following up with a cerave cleanser I haven't had issue. They just seem to remove makeup better and rinse easier for me. Rinseability is crucial for me because my skin doesn't tolerate any kind of abrasive cloth, power rinsing, or aggressive use of water based cleanser. So while albolene and inky list in theory might have been great for my skin, they just weren't the best for me.

When I switched from physical exfoliation to chemical and double cleansing my face is so much less red! I hated being seen without makeup because my skin was so irritated. I love jojoba oil and dove baby bar soap or dove sensitive skin bar soap.

I was using micellar water and then cleansing with something like CeraVe until about a month ago, when I switched to double cleansing with either Ponds or a cleansing balm or oil and then the CeraVe or Curology’s cleanser which is very gentle. Game changer for my sensitive, somewhat dry skin. My skin feels soft and plump now although some of that has to do with the serums, moisturizer and slugging that I do.

I ❤ Pond's Cold Cream! Even though I have oily combination skin, it doesn't over-dry out my skin from double cleansing.

Double cleansing made my skin so much cleaner which helped get rid of skin texture. My second cleanser now foams up a lot more because of that ! My skin looks so smooth, brighter and cleaner. 🖤

I've been using plain mineral oil without fragrance; is it at least equally effective as a formulated oil product?

Pure oil does not emulsify and will not wash of as easy and effective as a formulated oil based cleanser, you will simply move dirt around on your face

Best routine I learned from Dr Dray was using the Neutrogena fragrance free body oil very cost-effective lasts a long time. And the the cerve face wash or the Neutrogena oat face cleanser. Works like a charm taking off sunscreen and makeup.

When I do wear makeup, I have to wear waterproof mascara. I have a really hard time finding anything that takes it off without having to Scrub hard. The best thing I have found to use, is baby oil gel. I have tried so many balms, coconut oil, and eye makeup removers.

Looking fabulous! I've never double cleansed. Now, I guess I will lol. I have Mad Hippy's cleansing oil, and recently (thanks to you) started using CeraVe foaming cleanser. I will start my double cleanse tomorrow night to get my makeup/sunscreen off. Very helpful video!

i typically double cleanse when im wearing sunscreen and makeup or days when i am not working. i am trying to make it a thing of self care as well instead of just checking off a to do list.

I used to always get irritations around my eyes because of the eye makeup remover then thanks to Dr Drays video I learned about double cleansing and since then I’ve always used an oil cleanser (hada labo, avene or lrp) and then gentle cleanser. Thanks Dr Dray

Great tips! I definitely used to make the mistake of using oil that didn't have emulsifiers 😅 I'd use plain vitamin E oil and it did not work lol. Now I use and love the Kose Softymo Oil, which I see is on your list ☺️

An aesthetician used coconut oil on me years ago because I commented on how sensitive my skin is. Ugh, I broke out so bad from that and will never use it on my face again.

I have been double cleansing for about 6 months now. My skin has never looked or felt better! I used to have a very oily T zone combo skin. I find I like the actual oil best rather then a balm. It has actually calmed down the oil production in my face because I am not stripping the skin of moisture with harsh cleansers now! It is easier for me to wear my sun screen too!

I have a problem with most facial cleaners they irrate my skin. Cold cream seems to be the only thing that doesn't irrate my face.
