I would add 1 final tip. make sure to keep your head up and "stare" at a fixed point, like it is about 30 yards away. by doing this you should just be able to see your hands in your peripheral vision. this was absolutely key for me, took me just about 2 years to finally become proficient. good luck and don't ever give up.
Thing that helped me a lot was where I was focusing my gaze. Finding a spot on the ground about 10 ft in front of me and trying to jump in the same spot with feet together. Love your tutorials! I'd watch them with anything. How to eat a grapefruit, how to shop for Sparky's biscuits, etc.
Great advice, most comprehensive video I have seen so far. I have taken this lock down to try CrossFit and I can do the 100kg snatch and other technical lifts but the double unders have me cursing. I won't give up but I have broken two wires so far and I'm not an angry person.
Thank you legends! I was on struggle street with these bad boys & nothing was working until I did your jump & clap your thigh drill to teach my body the pattern. Banged them straight out afterwards 👍🏽 Good on ya
the best drill is the "double hip tap". without a rope, jump up and down like jump roping and each time your jump up tap your hip twice. practice this until you can do it 50+ times in a row without getting out of sync. it should be second nature. then pick up a jump rope and do the same thing, but in stead of tapping your hips, just spin the rope
Such an instructive video ! thanks alot for that, i've been avoiding any workout involving doule unders just because i couldn't figure them out. Could you make more "How To" videos ?
After a solid 3 months of practice I finally started to get them in the last two weeks (ready for 17.4 maybe). Not sure I agree about the single single double training, I was stuck on single double single double for a long time. I had to stop doing that and go just for doubles to get that rhythm out of my head
I don't even train CrossFit -- I'm powerlifting -- but I've watch ur videos for mounts. Tried CrossFit once and almost died, maybe I will try it again someday. Just wanted you to know that you are inspiring people outside CrossFit as well. Keep up the good work, you're awesome! English is not my native language so sorry for any grammar errors; I'm from Sweden.
OH my day!! Finally, mate I've been waiting for this video quite a long time, but it's here now!! So thumbs up to you for sharing these amasing tips! And most importantly, your weekly 2017 OPEN WOD's #like4Jas
Great tips for DU's! Mine are slowly coming together! I still haven't received my #wedontquit t-shirt though. Not sure if it is taking so long because of my geographical location or what? Just curious if anyone else has had this problem or if it is just me..?
Lucky ZeroPresence visit Craig's website (located in the description of his videos); however, these were only for the Crossfit Open 2017 I believe. They may not be on sale anymore.
i was able to do 10-15 DU in a row in summer...now..after a lot of practice im just able to do 1 or 2!!! fuck this stupid move - no chance - i quit and learnd doing super fast SU...no shit!
Hi Craig, the Army use the saying in a slightly different way - 'What does practice make? Permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect!!!'. Another one is - 'Amateurs practice until they get it right and professionals practice until they can't get it wrong!'. It's all about building the muscle memory... Been watching the videos for about 6 months now; love them!!! 🏋🏻🏃🏻💪🏻
As a competitive jump roper, this is super cool. We seem to do things very differently, but still great tips!! And also there is a product called speed balls that are super useful, they are handles with a foot or two of rope on them and a wiffle ball on the end. They keep your hands separate and work really well, check them out!
I just watched this, and my first impression is it that this is a FANTASTIC tutorial! I can't wait to try it. I think my first task is to work on my _single_ unders with my elbows closer to my ribs.
Great form, Craig! I think one of the keys is to have enough strength in your calves in relation to your body weight to be able to jump that high (for a longer period). Beginners usually lack it.
One thing you did not cover is the actual rope itself. I see so many different types advertised, some with swivels where the handle connects, some from metal, others with what seems like rubber or plastic, some with different weights or at least different weights of rope. Where do you start ??
Since I started watching your videos, in the last 2 weeks I have joined a box done my fundamentals course and did my first full class tonight! It was tough but "we do not quit"! You and Jaz are a great inspiration and so uplifting! See you in the next.....1!
The reason i dont like double unders is because when the rope hits me, it hurts bad so i dont really do double unders. Thanks to this video though, double unders is my thing.
Top video. These instructional ones were why I first started watching and following your channel. As others have said, you are good at breaking things down and explaining it clearly. Do more like this and less of the editing showcasing. Thanks to you, Jas, your old man and all the crew at the box for smashing out the content consistently- it's cool 🖒💪
this is so informative. really enjoyed this video (I love the vlogs too btw but this style is a great addition). I would really appreciate it you did this kind of video for other exercises/movements. ❤
Hey craig, i started crossfit few months ago and struggled with the double unders, it was so frustrating..after watching your video, i kinda got the technique right and slowly gettin the hang of it.. i am now at DU SU DU SU DU ryhthym.. hope to get flawless at it soon..thanks to you i persisted with more practice! Keep up with more videos like these!
One thing that really helped me to get more DU in sequence is to slowly accumulate DU in the middle of singles. Like this: 3 SU - 1 DU - 3 SU - 1 DU ... 2 SU - 1 DU - 2 SU - 1 DU ... 1 SU - 1 DU - 1 SU - 1 DU ... And when you finally get 2 DU in a row start trying do to more and more in sequence! Once you get it, it's really fun! I prefer jumping rope than running!
I HAD A RARE PROBLEM: 6 months into CrossFit - always been so frustrated with DU, like everyone else. Finally got out of the “1single-1double under” drill and can string them together. BUT my biggest issue I’ve never seen anyone talk about on RU-vid. I did have good solid core position, jumped perfect from the ball of my foot and had tight elbows and a good wrist movement BUT wasn’t aggressive enough with the flick of my wrist when stinging them together. I realised this when I did an intense WOD and hade som epic music on and did DU to that. I guess I got so excited and pumped that the flick finally became aggressive enough. Woala I got them going!! Also noticed that I used to hold my rope handle to far in, by moving my hand a bit out on the handle I got a better flick. Now I’m just building on my “perfect” foundation and stringing together more and more. Hope someone reads this and can relate and maybe become a better DU-jumper.
I did look into buying the bulldog rope, but i can't physically bring myself to or justify spending 50 quid on it when others of similar design are half the price :(
Great video thanks! In case you’re interested in a more catchy quote (3.56) I often say to my students (I’m a violin teacher) it’s not practice makes perfect- it’s practice makes permanent...!
