while the long jump and downshift edge jump have similar trajectories, the downshift edge jump is more focused on speed while the long jump is more based on height while dashing with the long jump is possible (coil dash), the downshift edge jump is much more powerful if executed correctly thanks for asking!
do you have the thrust capacitor equipped? tc makes downshifts respect current momentum, which is useful in most cases using the gear but makes it no longer possible to gain speed from the downshift itself
I think I found this tech first but no one ever made a video about it. I used it to get a spot in the leaderboard for one of the time trials (Im not on there anymore)
im definitely not the one who found it! im just making a tutorial on it, since i didnt see any other one. infact, someone actually taught me this in a public server
to make this a lot easier, i would recommend setting charge to q and crouch to r, so u can flick ur index and second to far left finger right after one another. it makes it a lot easier :)
changing keybinds is definitely a good idea if you want to perform this often i kept charge as mmb since i was already used to it and able to do it consistently but i changed my crouch to f because i never really used crouch anyway
Ouroboros by Kevin Macleod! (mighta spelled it wrong idk) you might have heard it in speed run 4 (the current one)'s level 30 (whatever number it was the rainbow one with the spiral)
@@hi-mn8jo after an update bhopping is very weak, you can do it one to three times but after that the game will force cancel your momentum unless you do a dash its also very situational and much harder to time, I'm not sure how i can teach it
wait till you're on the ground first before you press your sliding key if you press it while you're in the air then it will roll (dw you wont take damage at such a low altitude)
wdym you're not keeping the speed from the downshift? or something else if you're not keeping the speed from downshift then you might be starting too late
not really the game is coded so if the player is holding shift BEFORE they touch the ground, do a roll if the player is holding shift AFTER they land on the ground, do a slide
@@e_ron8298 the thrust capicitor equipped causes the downshift to respect your current speed. this makes it very good to use with the thrust capacitor usually, but you cant use it to start dashes due to the same reason. if your speed is very low, then instead giving you more speed to start with, it just uses the speed you already have, which is basically nothing
@@Photo_Draco0YT i can do the gearless dash, thats not the problem, like, i do grappler dash > im in the air > i use downshift > now im slow (basically downshift slows me down)
@@e_ron8298 That's because of the thing that makes the entire downshift dash work. The after an update, the downshift now has its own velocity, meaning using the downshift will accelerate/deccelerate you to that speed (which is why downshift is so effective in gearless, as you won't have access to so much speed usually). This also means it kills the speed you already have if it's faster than the set speed of the downshift. If you want the downshift to respect your current velocity, you'll need to equip the Thrust Capacitor gear. However, keep in mind that when using the Thrust Capacitor, the downshift mechanics discussed in this video will become obsolete.
