Hello. Thanks so much for this in-depth tutorial. I am going to follow this to make a kaftan. I have heavy duty, kind of stiff satin with no stretch at all for the borders of the sleeve and front opening. Do you suggest I cut the strips lengthwise from the fabric or at the bias. I want to turn neatly around the lapels and where the v of the neckline meets and down. Thank you.
You are welcome. Thanks for the feedback. I suggest u don't cut on a bias. In this other tutorial, I shared how to achieve a neat lapel and how to cut and sew that slightly v shaped area. Here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tOfxMMR7L8k.html
I'm a size M but when I made this tutorial I was a size L , i was 8 months postpartum. The kimono goes 4 a size M, and L. For an L size will just be exactly the way it is on me in the video and for an M fits as well cos I still rock mine. For an Xtra large size bodice, the only thing holding it is a model. I like to show how the bodice sits on the body. I don't know if some will like without a model or with a model.
Yes.....the 2" is with seam allowance 1/2 inch. The height of our back armhole is always higher than the front. If u cut on the same level for the front and back, your hands will always be on your dress from adjusting it. The same thing applies to shirts and jackets. You can watch my tutorial on how to draft the basic bodice for different sizes with the right neck measurement, armhole levels, and bust dart level on my channel.

Ok I think I got you now but looks like you added seam allowance only to the front shoulder panel. Just wondering why you didn't add to the back shoulder piece. Also forgive me for telling you you impatient; I take it back pls. Tanx as I look forward to hearing from you. 😀
No it's fine dear, I didn't take it personal and thanks for pointing dat out cos i didnt knw d videos are fast, maybe I will make my videos à little slower. For the seam allowance, I added on the back as well, if u listen well 2 d voice-over u will hear dat I mentioned it. 1.5" raise on the back plus 0.5" seam allowance making it 2" in total 😊 U can also watch my Basic bodice block on my channel to get a better understanding and why it's important to balance up the armhole levels. Don't hesitate to ask if u have more questions😊
Thanks for the video maaaam. I have problems with attaching the lapel. It's smooth when you start nd at some point, it starts folding with much gallops 😢. What do I do
U are welcome, dear. At the place where ur v neckline meets, go in by 0.25" from d centre front and try and smooth out that place so that it doesn't curve in... slightly slanted.
Nice teaching but you sometime too fast & impatient. I was intitally following but later got all confused with the shoulder slope & starting line. I went on to watch & rewatched but got even lost & confused the more. Would appreciate if you could redo this part of the video pls. Tanx.
Lolss...the impatient got me 😀😀. Okay I will video one of the Kimonos am making 4 a client to address this. You can watch ds kaftan tutorial it's d same method of the Shoulder slope as the kimono link 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ds7G_NQCYFE.html
