Hi. For measurements, please refer to my guide on body measurements linked in the description. This will help you with following this tutorial. Always use your own body measurements as the ones used in the video are mine. I hope this helps.

I'm so glad I found your video today and your blog as a result! Thanks so much for making this information freely available. Your website is very detailed and very clear, thank you for all the resources/printables. I began sewing for myself last year when I became frustrated finding RTW garments ill-fitting and unflattering. Now I'm frustrated that the indie patterns (which allows for womens' curves) do not align with my curves or takes into consideration how much fabric my bust gobbles up :D My daughter wants 1940's slacks made for work and after 3 attempts I'm done messing with the pattern - we need a block of her body so we can draft the pattern properly to fit her. Can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your time and energy in creating on RU-vid and your website. I'd lost my sewing mojo and now I'm excited to create for my daughter and me again. Blessings x

@@AlexMarieDIY Hi! Thank you for the offer of contacting you; I hope it's okay to use this forum as perhaps others with similar body shape/measurements may gain insight too? For the front dart, using your worksheet: I take our quarter hip measurement minus the front waist measurement, and the resulting answer becomes the width for the front dart? For us this looks like: quarter hip/12.25" - front waist/11.25" = dart/1". Our back dart is 1.5". I understand I then add half of the dart width to either side of J-K centerline/grainline. I find this personal tailoring so interesting; other tutorials just give a standard 1" dart width. My daughter has a rectangular body shape with waist and hips much the same, so when I do the math for the waist + dart measurement (points F to N/N1) it results in her quarter hip measurement... Front waist/11.25" + dart/1" = 12.25". Back waist 10.75" + dart/1.5" = 12.25". I'm going to trust the process; I know once the darts are sewn it'll cinch in her waist a smidge. This has been a fascinating journey.

@@HappiCamper hi. Yes, this is a good place to chat. So concerning the darts. 12.25 - 11.25. = 1 excess. You need only a third of this for your dart. So your dart should be 3/8 inch. Therefore for your daughter F - N should be 11.25+3/8= 11 5/8. Half dart width on either side of J will be 3/16inch. This will result in shaping on the sides.

Madam, The video was very nice, following your instructions i tried to draft the patter by downloading your speck sheet, all good except couple questions/suggestions if i may please.1. In the video when drafting for the back for joining the bottom and the knee points the numbers you put are 12,13,14,15, on the document i printed out these numbers are used for back darts, the picture has 8,9,10 11 for the bottom joining to the knee points. Appreciate if you could update the diagram. 2. Speck sheet crotch length is 33, Crotch extension 32 -(12x2) will it be 33-(12x2)? appreciate if you could help me understand. Thank you for the great video

Hi Alex. On the video at 16:40. You talk about tracing the front pattern on another piece of paper, and that will be the back side of the pattern I need to make. So after I have traced the back and I lay them on the side that has the pattern in ink. So when I lay the two on the table. Which way should the crotches be facing???? Should they be looking at each other when they are laying on the table OR Facing outwards ???? Thanks

Dear Christina, 😀 please watch the whole video through, BEFORE drafting as it will make the whole process easier to follow. You can also refer to the fully illustrated written tutorial linked in the box. I worry that you will end up with many errors if you tackle it blind. To answer your question, either way is fine as long as they face opposite directions.

Hi Alex Marie. This is Christine I’ve been asking you questions because I’m new at this and you’ve been helping me so much and I appreciate it. I am learning to. Well, the first thing I really wanna make is pajamas pants. I was looking at a new video that you made 10 months ago called (drafting with me basic trousers). Since you did this new one is there any difference from your old one which is the one that I’m looking at right now.And I have another question. maybe you can make a video on doing pajamas without darts on them? Is there a way we can speak to each other?

Hi Alex. On your video at.time 8:20. Point N you square up for the shaping. I am not doing a curve for the hip curve. My hip shape is straight so on point N to point P which I don’t have the P point. Because I am not doing a dart, so where should I start the extra inch up from. point A? Up a half inch to connect the point to J or F ? Help😅
@AlexMarieDIY
@AlexMarieDIY Год назад
Hi. The shaping is the waist actually. Our bodies are cylinders, so cutting it perfectly straight is not ideal. Do the the half inch up from point N, then simply complete the waist back to point F. The waist should be slightly curved. Remember this is a sloper. You can't have a boxy sloper.

@AlexMarieDIY
@AlexMarieDIY 4 года назад
Hi, Thank you for watching. No, I don't have a pattern for this yet, but it's in the works. You need to slash and spread the legs open to create a palazzo pant. You can also use a Basic skirt pattern, but you would need to add a crotch for that to work.

@@AlexMarieDIY Oooh, that was my next question. I made a pair using my basic sloper; but I added width to the bottom and then squared the vertical line upward to my hips (according to directions from another RU-vidr). They're cute and of course I'm proud. HOWEVER, I'm already sorta straight so my butt looks a little squared off. I gotta fix that on my next pair. I'll be looking for your video. Thank you so much!!

@@AlexMarieDIY I used my measurements. Maybe I'm measuring myself wrong?
@AlexMarieDIY
@AlexMarieDIY 3 года назад
@@ngufanikojo6430 Ok. Let's try to find the problem. They should fit closely at the waist and hips then looser straight down. 1. Cross check the measurements you took. The link for how to take the measurements is in the description. 2. If it's not from the measurements, it's a fitting issue. The pattern is just for a start, you can adjust them. Use pins to pin out the areas that are too big and mark with a pencil and sew. 3. You can shorten the crotch extensions. Just make sure the front is half of the back 4. Email me the measurements you used, I can detect any issues if any.

why we dont add seam allowence to the knee ?
@AlexMarieDIY
@AlexMarieDIY 4 года назад
Hi. There is no seam allowance in the whole pattern. This allows you to reshape the basic pattern into different styles. After which you can add seam allowance when you are ready to cut out the pattern from the fabric
@WMWMW7200
@WMWMW7200 4 года назад
@@AlexMarieDIY but in general do we add seam allowance to the front pants knee and to the back pants knee as well ?
@AlexMarieDIY
@AlexMarieDIY 4 года назад
@@WMWMW7200 Maybe I do not understand...are you asking about seam allowance for sewing the pants together, or are you asking about ease for movement? I added ease to the Hips in the draft, and yes you can add ease to the knees too depending on the style of trousers you want to sew. Just make sure it is the same amount you add to the front and back as the back should be a little wider than the front
