This is a great video! I’m really impressed not only with your skills and knowledge but also by the way you put the video together. It’s straightforward, to the point, no fluff easy to understand and looks good too. I can see you put lots of work into this! Top looks lovely!
I appreciate that, Claire! Thank YOU SO MUCH from the bottom of my heart! It really does take a ton of work, but I hope it helps people in sewing and drafting!
I love that the two of you support each other! I think I found this channel because you recommended it, Claire, and I am grateful to both of you and all that you teach me!
Thank you for your excellent videos. I have been sewing for more than 50 years and only wish I had access to this kind of instruction when I started. Now I am teaching friends' grandchildren, with your help. Your simple and clear instructions are so easy to understand and follow. Much appreciated.
Girl, you’ve really upped your game! Your videos are getting better and better. I know it takes a tremendous amount of time to film and edit and we so appreciate it. Your clear, concise instructions are just what I want. ❤️❤️
Just came across your channel and I wish I'd met you earlier. Thanks so much for the vivid information and I must confess I'm in love with your teachings. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial! I started garment sewing in January and following your tutorial for sewing a butterfly sleeve blouse was my first attempt at drafting a pattern and I'm very pleased with the results.
I'm still very very new at drafting my own patterns so I went to Joanns & purchased 10 yards of muslin fabric. It was 1.99/yd. I used the coupon & paid .99/yd. Prewashed it after running a basting stitch on raw edges. Ironed it and voila! I have a cheap source of fabric for my test of pattern. And it actually turns out that the test runs (if they come out right) make some nice pieces to wear. Now I don't worry and just dig into the project. No stress about ruining a good piece of fabric. I used your video on drafting pants, used some nice linen and I now have the best fitting pants I have ever owned! Thank you for all your wonderful videos!!!
Thanks for the nice videos. You're very inspiring. I can sew, but was little lazy. After seeing your videos I made more than 20 tops. Not only for me made for my friends and family. 🥰
I love the tip for cutting out the darts on the paper pattern. I'm working with a commercial pattern that has curved darts and have really been struggling to work out how to trace them onto my fabric. This is the answer! Thank you as ever x
I just made this top and it came out great!!! Ofc it’s not perfect! But it fits. I followed you step by step and it came out great the first time! The hardest thing was the neckline! Never ending thanks!! on to more of your sewing! Please don’t ever stop’!! 😍😍😍
I watched this video for the sleeves, but I learned so much more. I was never interested in drafting a pattern, but you explain it so well that it's nowhere as daunting as I thought it would be. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Lovely, thanks for putting this together. Would be wonderful if you could do a video on drafting your own facings as I would like to do it for the neckline on this top. I'll have a go myself, as it seems pretty straightforward, but would be great to see you doing it in one of your videos. Thank you.
What a beautiful person you are....I'm sooo in love with your teaching methods.... Plz do a video on different cool shoulder sleeves....tnx for al the time you put into the videos...
Remona, thank you and happy sewing! the video about different sleeve types is already on the channel, just go to my channel and you will see it there ;)
I'm new to sewing blouses/tops. I've never sewed darts before. I wish you would've demonstrated how to sew the darts.☹ Other than that, I love your tutorials! I'm so glad I found your channel!
Hi Alisa!! Amazing video.. Love the fabric choice too.. I love flutter sleeves on tops.. You’ve started the new year on a high note already.. Thanks for all the amazing information on darts & the feeling that your right there with me.. Top looks gorgeous on you…. 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Thank you for all your fantastic video’s! Can you explane why you make the darts and not draft the curve in de sideseam? Or the differents between these ?
This is stunning . I def will have to Try other items of clothes but o was trying to make a top for My daughter and even though I used the measurements they just weren't working but maybe that's be cause I forgot to add the seam allowance and ease maybe as I'm so new to sewing I've got so much to learn
Great video, love how detailed instructions you give! I love the metric measurements on top of the screen. You are an amazing person and teacher! Have an amazing 2022!
You designed and drafted a beautiful top ! Since I struggle with fabric choices, I was curious about your rayon poplin. How does that compare to rayon challis?
Your videos are very well done. I’ve e particularly enjoyed your instructions for simple tops with a variety of necklines and sleeves. Will be making several of these for spring and summer. Can you ask your music people to turn down the volume. There are several points in which I can’t hear you over the music.
Hello there! Do you mean a sweater/pullover? I have a ton of vids on how to do tops with long sleeves- use those tutorials with sweater knit fabric! :) There was a tutorial for a sweater just the other week.
Back in high school I took extra classes, but not in college! I wish I would have! By the way - on the Google Drive for Members you can find croquis to print out, so you can create your own fashion sketches! :)
@@yamiletviloria747I used woven fabric (no stretch) and I can put it on just fine. If needed - install a zipper, a keyhole closure or any other closure you need, as always - the tutorial is a beginning - you have to adjust it to yourself and your own needs.
Alisa, I just finished this top and love it. I struggle with cotton blouses that button down the front. Do you have a pattern that I could try with my cotton fabric without buttons & buttonholes? Thank you so much.
just wondering.. How do you get the blouse on? because your waist is smaller then the bust. With no stretch fabric and no zip. The blouse looks very nice and flowy by the arms. I think your video's are great!
For me - without a problem, since my bust is not made of concrete it squeezes in without a problem :) I don't even notice it when putting the blouse on. If you have a big difference between bust and waist - just make a keyhole closure in the back/front, or an invisible zipper in the center back or side seam, I did not mention it since I assumed people would think of it, but I will mention it next time.
Excelent tutorial. I enjoy when you make the pattern. The blouse look great well done. Can we do it with a stretch fabric and what changes would I have to make if posible. Thank you 😊
You can make it in knits, 3 things you have to remember : 1) weight and drape of the fabric 2) how comfortable are you hemming knits neatly when they are cut like a circle (sleeve) 3) you can remove darts and make it more form fitting if needed.
Thank you so much for your simple, clear directions. So easy to follow you. Also, love the fabric you used. And the top looks wonderful on you. Question: does the fabric have any stretch? And is it easy off and on? BTW: I am slender like you with thin arms.
Lana, hello there! No stretch in the fabric, it is rayon poplin. Super easy to take off and on, but if needed an invisible zipper can be added to the center back or side seam or a keyhole closure can be made. Skipping the darts will make it even easier.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you so much for giving me such a prompt answer. I so love this top and will be sewing one up soon. Hope it looks as good on me as it does on you. Also, thanks for the advice on what type of fabric to use. It's very helpful to be aware of what looks best.
Love. But for we ladies with batwing arms and need long sleeves can you please demonstrate how to do this in the long flutter sleeve , I hope you respond. Great thanks.
Ola, I totally understand. In this video I have shown you how to make the sleeve. To make it longer - just make it longer, that's it. You don't need another tutorial for it. Just make the sleeve longer and follow the rest of the steps. I know you can do it! :)
Thank you for alI of your super helpful videos! I watched the swing dress pattern drafting tutorial and I noticed that you merged the circle skirt with this butterfly sleeved top for your daughter. I am curious, would I be better off making this as a dress and add darts or merging the two patterns (this and the circle skirt) without darts? Also, I was planning on using a jersey knit -- will that work?
Joni, hi! Circle skirt adds flair, if you add circle skirt from bust down like in a dress video then you will get the flair - then adding darts makes no sense. If you want a slimmer dress - just extend this top in length and account for your hips as you do it to make sure it goes over them easily, I have a video on this topic on how to make any top into a dress and a video in the knit bodice block series on how to extend a top into a dress, take a look. Jersey knit - sure, just think it through if you're comfortable hemming curves of the knit garments.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity thank you so much! I got sick with adrenal tumours and my body became oddly shaped and I found it sooo difficult to find clothing to fit properly, so I (thanks from help and inspiration from YOU) took a deep breath and decided to make my own clothes. I've made several skirts and trousers and finally lept into making tops. Started with the hardest material (knits). I don't have trouble with the hems but I do struggle a lot with creating v-necks. This will be my first dress and I am super excited to get started.
This is so pretty! I was wondering, though... it's REALLY cold up here in New England right now! I am going on a work trip soon, and I thought I might make all of us balaclavas! (Selfish motives - I bicycle to work, so I'm also looking to make more face coverings for myself, too.) Would you have suggestions or a pattern "recipe" to make one that fits?
Hello there, Abaigeal! There are Instruction Sheets and a tutorial on how to make a winter hat + I have a done tutorial on the channel for turtlenecks and infinity scarves, you can use those principles combined together to make something for yourself that fits your needs exactly!
Abaigel!!! You will love this next video, gonna be uploaded in about 30 minutes! I started thinking after your comment and I just could not stop, so I hope it comes in handy for you :)
hi i tried to draft your trouser pattern but i got so confused with the measurement's, i saw that you do a work sheet to down load, can you help me with this please. thankyou Patricia.
Thank you for the idea of butterfly sleeves directly on the blouse. But it didn't look nice under my armpits ... I also have a French seam on the side. Too bad you didn't show sewing in more detail. This is important, especially for beginners who are not experienced, and every little thing is important.
Hello there, I would like to invite you to make a small scale pattern of this and think it through - 1) how will it look with all in one facing? 2) will it add weight to the sleeves? 3) how will you finish the seams?
Alisa, help, I don’t find a link to join your paid subscription. I am totally obsessed with your videos and have never been able to find that link you mention.
