It is only about how the 9 long lines are connected. 3*2+1*3=9 (out of the 4 square bars on the left side, 3 are made with 2 long lines and only the last one with 3 long lines) 3*3=9 lines (Each of the 3 square bars on the right side is made of 3 long lines). Edit: in other words, you can say ... 4 square bars on the left side are made with 3*4=12 long lines, but 3 of them are overlapping. 12-3=9 long lines. Whereas, 3 square bars on the right side have 3 separate long lines for each, 3*3=9 long lines.
