So many of these videos, it seems to me, rely on the artist having a good eye and just seeing, or intuiting, where features belong. Not all of us are blessed with that innate ability and need formal proportions to help us. This video, as good as it is, lacks those and hence, for me, is not that helpful. Fun to watch, though.

Perhaps start with this video then: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1kHzAh9sCH4.html It details specific facial proportions facing forward.

Drawing a front-facing head and a 3/4 head are vastly different, so I agree with you completely, David. I've yet to see a tutorial on drawing the 3/4 view that fully explains how the artist determines each line, each angle, etc. I've been self-teaching and practicing for a long time and it's really, really difficult to learn. I'd like to make my own tutorials one day, but I'm not quite confident enough yet.

It seems, to me, that you, like to use, a bunch, a ton, of commas. It's quite funny, since most people, tend, to use little, to none. Quite humorous, to me.

I have the same problem with most of youtube art drawing space, they don't teach you as a beginner or where they started from, they teach you as if you're where they are now and already know how to draw and wing 90% of it from muscle memory. I've grown to hate the space and have to watch 4 20 minute tuts and then try to piece enough of a working thing to teach myself

I do you determine the width of the face?

Very cool.... but why do not you use the ruler to set the dimensions ?
@jesciahopper
@jesciahopper 5 лет назад
There's not a set size for dimensions, so a ruler wouldn't necessarily work very well. Instead, thinking about ratios that can be translated from an image or life to the drawing is more accurate.
