This paper is honestly disappointing for pastels but I’m glad to see it works much better for color pencils at least.
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 2 года назад
Yes, I totally agree! It's grainy and doesn't take many layers of pastel... But the smooth side is great for coloured pencil - there's not a lot of toned papers to choose from so it's a good option 😊

I’ve been a fairly competent artist using soft pastels but have been battling with pencils for a year now - this has to be the best informative tutorial I have come across; concise and easy to understand. I am so excited by this video I am joining your patreon ‘club’. So grateful for the time taken to upload this tutorial. 🙏🙏 Do you cover portraiture in coloured pencils on your patreon site, please?

Thank you 😊 I use a variety of coloured pencils but these ones are mainly Derwent Lightfast, Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran D'ache Luminance, and Derwent Drawing. hi Kirsty can you make a tutorial that uses normal paper? I tried this piece of art but i didn't have the same paper.
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 2 года назад
It depends what you mean by "normal" paper! If you are wanting to use these techniques and get similar results with colorued pencil, you won't be able to achieve that on printer paper or most generic drawing papers (they don't have enough tooth, won't hold solvent, and won't allow as many layers as you need to get this kind of result) These are some of the papers I like to use with coloured pencil when I am using solvent to blend: Hot-pressed watercolour paper (Arches or Fabriano) Canson Mi Teintes pastel paper (not the touch/tex) Clairefontaine Pastelmat

@KirstyRebeccaFineArt

@jeffalan4782
@jeffalan4782 Год назад
How did you get that white outline
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Год назад
You can use white transfer paper, or you can rub some white pan pastel on the back of your printed reference photo (or freehand sketch on a different piece of paper) and trace over the outline so the pastel from the back imprints onto the drawing surface 😊

Will cheap colour pencil work on grey paper
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 2 года назад
It depends what your goals are and what your definition of "cheap" is! If you are concerned about the lightfastness and longevity of your work, then I would suggest buying professional grade supplies and maybe start with a smaller pack of 12 instead of buying a 150 pack of "cheap" pencils. You can learn to layer your colours to create the colour you need with a set of 12 good quality pencils instead of trying to make poor quality pencils work Professional quality pencils will give you completely different results and if you choose lightfast colours, they will not fade/discolour/yellow over time

what solvent do u use? 🧐
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 2 года назад
I use Art Spectrum Odourless Solvent (it's an Australian brand) but most solvents that oil painters use will work fine (Gamsol, Mona Lisa Odorles Paint Thinner, Odourless mineral spirits, Zest It etc)

@@KirstyRebeccaFineArt I have a printer and was wondering if I can copy or pdf on this ? I don’t free hand
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt 8 месяцев назад
@@debbienixon4460 you could probably print onto this - the paper is thin/smooth enough and if you use a faded black outline, it should work I would actually recommend just using the transfer method. You can just print your reference photo on normal printer paper, turn it over, rub some Pan Pastel or graphite onto the back, then trace over the front of it.. so the pan pastel/graphite from the back will imprint onto your drawing paper You can also buy white transfer paper by Saral where you just slip this between your printed reference photo and your drawing paper and trace over it - same concept 😊 amzn.to/49nLV7j

I dont see anything useful for beginners here, you just blabber around as your video goes on swiftly... this is like a tutorial which doesnt actually teach you anything: look the dog? wanna do it? shows sketch a few ideas of how to make it and then boom its already done and looks perfect but you dont tell us how to do it unless we pay for your Patreon, given that it would teach us only if we pay but it might not even help in truth....
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt
@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Год назад
I'm sorry you feel that way, but I have a lot of tutorials that walk you through how to create the drawing (not every video has the same format, otherwise it will be boring) This video shows "Tips for beginners" not "full length tutorial for beginners" so unfortunately, this is one that is not "step by step" but if you watch a few of my other tutorials, you will come across some that show you the steps Keep in mind that the full length tutorials on my Patreon channel are real-time, slowed down versions where I explain every step of the way, and it takes many many hours to create each tutorial. It is a very small monthly subscription in comparison to an actual art class. I provide these free "tips" tutorials on RU-vid so I can help as many people as possible, but if I created every full length tutorial for free, I wouldn't be able to keep doing that for very long because I wouldn't be able to pay for a roof over my head, which would lead me to getting a full time job, and not uploading any videos at all 😊
