this drawing is one of my favourite drawings you've done so far and I like how you didn't try to do all realistic and such and kept it more traditional woodblock looking.

D'awww, fishy. I had a goldfish for a couple of years named Gobi, he was the cutest little thing. It was hard when he passed away a number of years ago. Yes, fish have suction cup mouths; he used to come up to get food from my hand and almost would inhale my fingers, lol. Fun facts about fish I learned from Gobi: 1) Fish can yawn (and it looks weird because their mouths stretch forward and their eyes "fold out" and then back in during this mouth stretching!) 2) Although fish can't blink, they definitely go to sleep and if you turn the light on during the night they will zoom around their bowl, startled, before calming down again 3) They have a memory of much longer than the myth of 10 or so seconds; they can recognize their owners 4) They have really slippery bodies 5) Fish enjoy scrounging for food in the rocks of their bowl, or rearranging their rocks along the bottoms of their bowls as suits their fancy 6) If you put a plant in their bowl, they may use that as their bed to rest under at night 7) You can tell if a fish is sexually immature by the tinge of black around their fins; this disappears once the fish reaches adulthood 8) Male fish (not just goldfish) can be differentiated from the females sometimes by having whitish spots on their gills R.I.P. Gobi, and thank you Mark for the Koi drawing! :')

I always thought fish wore boring and you couldn't do anything with them, but that story was beautiful :)
@CarolineRosenthal

Shouldn’t put fish in a bowl and can’t yawn they don’t lay under plants if there on the ground it might mean there sick or stressed the WHITE SPOTS MEAN THEY HAVE A DISEASE

@@CarolineRosenthal yes you are right the black line in their fins is fin rot white spots are ich!Goldfish need much bigger tanks and a filter!But they do yawn and rest in plants

@sinasoule6727
@sinasoule6727 7 лет назад
Great video. Took me some practice to learn how to draw the scales though, I couldn't do it with the same 'sweep' as Mark does... then I figured I had to focus on the upper left corner, draw kind of 'round corners' and not let all the lines touch. Huge difference, now my scales look actually authentic. Maybe it's a small thing and most of you could do it at once, but since I'm still learning I really appreciated being able to observe all the hand movements in detail. Thanks!!! Greetings from Germany :)
