Hey Andrew: I can still see over the top of my arm. This technique is called a horizontal elbow shield. It's the way I choose to draw most commonly because it builds muscle memory. It's designed to protect my face from strikes in case I'm drawing close enough to an attacker that they could punch me. Thanks for the question.
