Thanks ^^ Also, your technique of drawing ''tape hair'' then dividing it with a 6-3-1 ratio and the S or J strands are sooo helpful and is really useful for beginners like me who can't draw for crap 😂
I understand you're trying to say people need to also rely on technique. But people are here to learn, improve, and to become more comfortable with a concept. Creativity enhances technique, it doesnt make them stupid.
The dot on top of the head really helped me understand where i should construct the hair, at first i was drawing the hair where ever i felt fit and it looked messy and sometimes all over the place but this changed alot! Thank you!!
Hot take: Hair is actually the hardest part of the body to draw. Hands and feet are actually not that hard if you’ve got a good reference, but the best reference image in the world won’t help you draw good hair.
Hard to find the difficult hair texture tutorials I noticed! Lol. I've seen a lot of amazing and beautiful black anime characters from various artist that varies in a lot of styles and by far the the most complex tackle is ethnic hair where the hair has texture and universal nature to it- hair that defies gravity where there is no limit to what you can style it. Not always straight or silk press for my perspective but when its kinky or curly.

I tried creating anime characters for years now, but i always failed. Tried to perfect the face, since i was sure that was the problem, the proportions always felt wrong, and so tried adjusting everything to no avail. Now i realize the hair was the ONE thing that ruined it for me, since i did not properly considered the proper perspective for it, and it threw off the entire balance of the face.
Think in terms of volumes and how close to the viewer the part is. Front on view, the front (or bangs) should be six volumes, the sides should be three and the back hair should be one volume. This is because things that are closer look bigger. Similarly, if the back of the hair is closest, if the viewer was looking from behind, then that should be six volumes. These are just general proportions and can be varied to i.e. if the further back volume is actually quite big. Also play around with what looks good overall. Thats my understanding of it!
