I love the way you demystify botanicals for sketching, and yet you have some knowledge of how they grow. So many artists do florals without checking out how the plants actually grow -- e.g. draw completely the wrong kind of leaves, or include the wrong number of petals for a flower that always has a set number of petals. Yours look surprisingly real, and yet the sketches are so simple.
Great sketches. I copied your sketches of the cherry blossom in my nature journal today, they came out fab. I found it so easy to follow and draw. I 've drawn so many of your sketches now and it's making my journal look ace. Keep on sketching anything nature wise and I'll keep on copying them, and then I paint them in watercolour. Thanks.
That is wonderful. Makes me so happy to hear that. It really adds to a journal doesn’t it. I will be sure to keep doing those videos if I have people continue to watch them. Thanks again 😊
OMG I'm so excited to find you on the mushroom video and now this... I recently got back into drawing with the desire to draw plants and other nature things! Thank you!
Thanks for our latest 'lesson' as I follow your sketching more I am now not having to 'copy' so closely and am getting an idea of how to proceed for myself a bit more. I still can't believe that I can now draw some recognisable flowers! Thanks so much x
🌅🙋🏻♀️😊 😃Thank You So Much for Posting This. I watched this One And A Couple More: Herbs and Grasses. 😃i Had NEVER Thought of Using Labels as a Drawing Surface!!!Started To Doodle Along With You And am Very Happy About my Drawing Results! You Are an Awesome Art Teacher😊👍👍🎨🎨🎨
Just seen your video ......absolutely loved watching you. You make it look so easy 😂 .....however you make me really want to try sometime......thankyou so MUCH ❤❤❤☘️☘️☘️☘️
So, I've been seeing some of your videos, I came from Twister paper studio, She talked about your loose scketches in scraps. It's funny how I was Lost wanting to junkjournal and don't know how. I'm still trying to find my style but I'm getting there. I was to scare to draw and whatercolor because I learn that it had to be perfect and I'm not. Last night I drew, paint a little. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. ❤
Enjoyed just watching you sketch today. Will give it a try soon. Really love the idea of sketching on labels. Your's are absolutely gorgeous. TY for sharing your time and talent.
Michele....I can't believe this! I loved watching your other tutorial on sketching herbs on labels so much that I requested another tutorial on your flowers and wow...here it is! I'm sure you get many requests such as mine because it truly is a joy to watch you sketch and your clear instructions allow for success. These flowers are beautiful with that vintage flair I adore! When you plant your garden this year, I'd encourage you to plant Amaranth, and specifically the one called "Love Lies Bleeding". It's a stunning flower with long dramatic ropes. It's one of the most unique flowers I've seen and I'd love to see your take on sketching it. I tried it myself and it turned out pretty decent, but my skill level for sketching is not where yours is for sure. Anyway, thank you for the surprise treat this morning.
Wow what a beautiful unique flower. I had to google it. I’ve never seen that before. That would so dramatic in a bouquet, and drawing all that texture. Love it! I am hoping to add more to my little garden this year. I don’t have much space since we are still under construction. Fingers crossed that I can add a few things. Thanks for watching 😊
I am in awe of your creations. The look is right up my alley. Aesthetic? Is that what it’s called. And even tho mine need def improvement, it’s way better than I thought I was capable of. Thank you for teaching us these drawing skills
I love the idea of doodling on labels! I tried a mushroom house and am so happy with the result! Now for flowers. I’m the only one of my siblings who has no natural talent but Shayda Campbell taught me how to doodle/draw. Now I’m going to learn from you! Thanks so much.
wow im so impressed with your drawing skills ,im so glad i found you today ,i tried a mushroom house from your other video ,i ended up drawing my own flowers ,im going to try these along with you ,thank you
I really enjoyed this tutorial. You really took your time and made it clear to follow. I just downloaded from your Etsy shop and look forward to making these for Mother’s Day’s gift tags. Thanks
I love these! I had two almost full boxes of similar labels... but they had gotten old. They were probably from around 1989.. and were for use with our old dot matrix printer! LOL! The stickiness disappeared, the labels got brown streaks and fell off. I need to go thrift store shopping again!
I just found your channel thanks to a shout out from Jibid Neary, and love these sketches. I do very detailed graphite drawing and always a bit scared about sketching in a more loose way. But you've made me think I can do this if I just let go and try it. Many thanks and looking forward to working my way through your videos!
Hi Michele, really enjoy your "quickie sketches" sessions (phew try and say that quick😄) I learnt a lot last time with the mushrooms and herb sketches particularly Looking for the different perspectives. Thanks for sharing. Sending best wishes from Australia 🐨
Lol thank you so much. I can do a video on different perspectives and close up so that it shows a bit more. I think perspective is important because it will create a lot of realism and depth to a drawing. Thanks for watching. Isn’t it 2 am in Australia right now? Lol
I’m always so impressed by how easy this comes to you, the results are incredible every time 😍 love your sketches! My favorite flower is Forget me not because it reminds me of my childhood and grandpa 😊 have you sketched those before? They’re so tiny! 😇
Thank you. Yes I can do forget me not’s I love them as well. That burst of blue in spring is wonderful. I forgot (no pun intended) to add them. Will do soon. Cheers and thanks for watching 😊
I agree, I am no artist and up until about 5 yrs ago I couldn’t even draw a decent stickman. But I retired from work and decided to try drawing everyday and have done so and now I can draw some pretty decent things. Still not as good as this though. But I am improving.
I actually followed along in Procreate (for iPad) b/c I'm trying to get better at using it. Thanks for the simple sketches, they're all so pretty! I like this loose style a lot. Iris is my grandma's fav and she's my favorite so I enjoyed that one :)
Oh i love procreate. I have done a few videos on it however i still have so very much to learn. It is a fantastic program. Sketching on an iPad gives you even more options, have fun!
I’m watching the video on my large tv but when I want to comment I go to my phone … I didn’t realize the video was still running on the phone laying on the table and all of a sudden I saw what I thought was a large bug running across the phone (I hate bugs) … after the panic I realized it was your left hand moving in the corner of the video 🤣😆
Hi Michelle!!! Oh how DELIGHTED I Am to see a new LOVELY Upload from you!!!! I just drew 3 so far..Snow Drops, Cosmos, and Whistle on the tea dyed tracing paper I was discussing with you (on another of your Awesome videos)..and decided I needed to brighten/ highlight the center of the Cosmos A touch. Pulled out my (Trusty )White Gelly Roll Pen and next thing you kniw?? I also added highlights to the Snow drop petals, and partial center of my whistle and leaf vein and slight area next to shadow under the Thistle stem top... It looks Do COOL!!! I drew a small bud like Thistle and topped it with some white strokes for effect! I Love Thirties also!! Especially when fortunate to photograph Goldfinch or Swallowtail Butterflies, or others on them!! Do you have the dainty and adorable Bluets aka Quaker Ladies in your area?? When I lived in New England, I always looked forward to those and then the showy, colorful Lupines.. How I miss them both! They Don't grow here in S.W. Iowa.. There is a relative that is rare and grow in/on the Loess Hills. A small non descript pink type that grows close to the silty clay they come up on.. I don't even think the State Biologists knows about them lol!! Sorry to ramble.. Thanks Do Much!!! (I needed this time to take my mind off of some concerning family issues...) Have a Wonderful Weekend!! Warm Regards!! 🙋🤗 Mindi
Thank you very much for watching and drawing along. I dont have Quaker ladies here i will have to look them up and give them a try. I hope all is well and you find the time for more distractions and draw some more beautiful local specimen. 😊
Hi There Michelle!! Thank You for a lovely reply ( thst I nearly missed!!) The Bluets/ QLs will be very easy for you! I just thought it would be awesome of you to throw some examples up, to see what you think...? 😁💐 I notice the leaves of our ' Naked Ladies/ Surprise Lilies, etc. have popped up a few days ago....They bloom in Aug or late July..They are very charminv ! A light pink, blue pearlescent with irredescent glimmers..hard to describe. You would enjoy those I imagine. What is your planting zone might I ask?? Mine is a 5 here, in S.W. Iowa....Be Well and Happy Spring!🌱🐦🐣🌷
How beautiful are your flowers! I love the idea of drawing on labels, but I wonder what to do with them once I have a sheet full of them, does anyone have ideas?
