I loved this video!! I'm a HUGE Marley fan. I attempted to follow the step by step and it turned out like a cross between Marley and Lauryn Hill.. LOL!!! I'll try it again though.
WOW! Ive looked at alot of your vids but this is one of your best. This realy helped me draw the legend. And your insporational in things which you say. I realy think your one of the best artists on youtube. NO JOKE! I bet everyone agrees with me there!
@Alot327 We are voting on who I draw next right now on the kazanjianm facebook page (lil boosie is not in it this week though). I will check back to see if this request gets voted up and consider him for next week.
you.are.amazing!!! on that tupac, nicki tutorial's i did it! it worked out amazing :D thank you sosososoosoo much please keep posting you are freakin' greattttt
@BenFalkenstein Yes I agree about the tonal painting comment. It is a good place to start. I am doing my own version of "Dry brush" and yes, it is a tad wetter! As an artist and as a teacher, I have noticed that the best artists alter their approaches, rather than stick to a rigid formula. It is important to KNOW what the correct process is, but it is OK to deviate from it.
@janetrtist When the head tilts it usually creates strong highlights on the neck (the musculature is exposed). This was not the case in this video (because of his hair). Having seen your work, I feel that the most important thing that you could work on now is noticing the "subtleties" of the edges of what you are observing. That is crucial. Does it have a hard edge? Does it have a soft edge? Sometimes....the most important rule is to draw what we SEE rather than what we KNOW.
This is the best damn art ive seen do you get paid for this if not you should you should do another but with a joint in his mouth or hand that would be money right there
Awesome portrait Merril... don't like his music but i love the portrait.... can you please do a tutorial on Lars Ulrich the drummer of Metallica.... ahhaha you can't really have James without Lars :)
Hey Merrill, once again great job. Aside from the actual picture, whats going on over to the right? Are you diluting the black paint with spirits or are you using some sort of grey scale? My brain is having trouble wrapping itself around the idea of dry brush when spirits are involved. Doesnt seem so dry. Lol I have zero paint experience and this "tonal painting" seems like a good place to start coming from pencils.
Merril i have a huge reqest here: if you ever seen the alien movie can you show a drawing tutorial of how to drae/paint them and a extended highlight and shading tutorial! I think it whould be a great new thing to try (something wich isnt human) tell me what u think!
Can you please do a tut to do this with pencils only. I don't have the items and I did the drawing now I'm pointless. I have to hand this in the next 3 days
U know u could do it with graphite pencil and black water color i meam havin a black pastel would help but still look good maybe with what u got u can do a sloppy copy
Your tutorials are amazing. I'm an art student and in the last two days I used your videos to draw drake, and Katy Perry. They came out so great that I'm putting them in my portfolio would you please do Lana del Rey and Ariana Grande?
