Now that’s what I’m talking about. You described the concept. You went through and explained examples. Then you showed us how to do it. Keep doing great tutorials like this. Thanks.
Sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost my password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Jack Bowen I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you so much for this video! The way it’s put together is super helpful. I understood the basic concepts, but being able to have the explanation and then see you translate it on to the page in real time was what I needed to fully understand the technique! Thanks again.
The quality and simplicity of your videos is wonderful! You are providing such a helpful resource. I am a new art teacher and I appreciate the way you break down the complex into manageable sessions. These have already helped me in my lesson planning! Thank you!
Thanks you so much Casey. I appreciate the kinds words and I am really glad you are making use of them in your classes. If you know of other teachers who would like them, please feel free to share, all of the support helps me so much!
Best tutorial ever. I was struggling with proportions for a long time, and finally a great teacher taught me everything about proportions in just 8 minutes. Thank you so much 😍 Could you please teach us how to draw head and face in different angles? 🙏💕
Glad you had a breakthrough! Thanks for the suggestion, I have content written for head drawing so it will be something that will makes it way to the channel in the future. :)
Thank for this simplefid explanation. Its great for me as an absolut beginner. Bringing it into These small steps really helps a lot. Thank you very much
I just use my eyes to triangulate the relationships of angles and objects all free hand. which iv been doing since I was 8. Back then my teachers and others would tell me i had an amazing eye for details.
Also, if you're working from photo reference, you can place your pencil or stick directly against your picture for consistent and accurate measurements. The locked elbow works great when you're standing back from a live subject. Good video. Nice succinct explanation.
Thank you for the video! I was doing sighting wrong by tilting it forward to measure a line going back in space i.e. depth Proportion is so challenging. My brain keeps lying to me 😅
This is one of the most challenging things for my students to wrap their head around, so you are not alone in your boat. Glad this video is helping you on your journey!
I actually have one question for you. How do you measure the proportion of lines going back in space? The way I understand it, in the sighting method, you can't tilt the pencil forward/backward. You only hold it vertically/horizontally. That means you can't use it to measure the depth of objects (lines moving back into space away from you) - right? Say I want to figure out the relative proportion of the width and depth of a desk in front of me. How would you figure out the depth if sighting isn't allowed?
If you think of the line moving in space as a flat shape, then just measure it with your pencil horizontal or vertical and see it as a 2d shape. I hope that makes sense.
You don’t have to rely on your eye. You use your pencil as the measuring device. With the “unit” in hand you compare that with the other measurement. Always start with the smaller measurement as the original unit to help.
@@DrawshStudio Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, but I think you misunderstood. I know how sighting works, you take the measurement of the length or width of something and compare it to something else you want to know measurement of. However, lets say that the height of the vase is equal to 4 of the width, but theres some extra length left so you have 4 and a fraction. You'll have to use your eye to estimate at your what fraction is it based on your pencil and that isnt easy the first time you try it. It's alright though, sighting is an excellent method but it is a supplement for your eye.
Seeing your video it seems that you have made your video with a lot of hard work, now the rest is very good but there is a problem, the image will be made as per the measurement but I want the image to be made as per the measurement, please tell me the solution to make it bigger
Thank you :). This video actually does explain that however. The principle is you get measurements from life that are ratios. Meaning you apply them to what we the size of your art is. Make your gesture as large as you want, even the size of a mural is fine. Then, if the ratio of the object is a 1 to 3 from height to width then you make your drawing the same ratio regardless of its size. Watch it again with that in mind and you may see it.
In this context, it is better to train your hand eye coordination to draw accurate lines without a ruler (draftsmanship). This will improve your drawing ability greatly and be much faster than using a ruler. In my beginning drawing classes we don’t use rulers at all. Of course, in cases where precision is needed like in linear perspective a ruler is fine.
