Useing the diamond wheel to dress the grinder is a very good idea. I only watched the video, didn't listen to the sound track so you may have mentioned this. I would be very reluctant to dress the sides of the grinder wheel. Grinder wheels are not designed for ANY side loading. To much side loading and the wheel WILL shatter on you and chunks of it will be coming at you at very high speed. After all these years I still stand to one side and reach over to turn grinders on. I wait until it gets to full speed then move in line with the wheel to do my work. Still the diamond wheel is a good idea. I also liked the way you set up to avoid a mess. Well done.
👍 Yeppers if possible never stand inline , while true if it grenades it's going everywhere , but standing inline is just bad , like running a tablesaw always stand off to the side of blade . An avoid the cheap grinding wheels also , we had a kid who on his lunch break run up an picked a cheapie one . I really don't know what happened as I wasn't there at that end of The Shop , but man that thang came apart with a Hell'va racket fortunately he didn't suffer any long term injuries , The Shop Foreman really chewed his ass out . I've used the worn carbide cutting tips from the Brake Lath as well , they do a great job on grinder wheels .
Thanks man - the split washers worked amazingly well for me! I have a 6" grinder with two stones and both had a big groove worn in the middle of the wheels. I had been looking to buy a tool for this but then I came across your video and decided to give it a go, but with LOW expectations. I mean it's so simple, how could it work better than a purpose built tool?? Well, 20 mins later I had two beautiful, square stones with ZERO cash outlay (had a bolt and washers already). You saved me $40+ and the time to go grab a tool for this. Amazing! And the other plus is that the rig I made with the washers did 2 wheels and look to be able to last for a few more clean ups yet! Some tips if you're going to do this - make sure there's enough clearance on the bolt to allow the washers to spin freely and not too long a bolt to allow you move side to side across the face of the stone (so you wear the washers more evenly). The other tip is this will get Hot, so wear some rigging gloves or similar. 👍
Wow. Nice effort in trying to help people out but wow. I definitely wouldn't recommend doing any of these methods. Dressing wheel tool and a solid base is the way to go.
@@nicolasmiller-vachon4066 that makes sense also if there's a crack in the wheel and you try to push on the side of it I am sure that'll end up pretty badly too
2:55 right. i used the same idea, lock washers on a large screw driver, works for me. The diamond wheel, on angle grinder, new idea for me. Thankyou, sir.
@@frogsoda I’ve inherited a grinding wheel, but got no dresser tool. I’m still searching for a shop where I can buy one. So at least for me it’s not a “standard tool”. Until I find one, the tips in this video helps me.
@@bjondersson man everything he showed in this video is extremely dangerous, especially dressing the side of a grinding wheel. You shouldn't even use the side of the wheel much less dress it. Do what you want but these wheels can blow apart and if I'd does you will be sorry. Trust me seen it happen.
Costs like a good set of carbide-tipped drills (unless you can get it as a cheap replacement part for grinders ofc but the pro stuff which is readily available over here costs that much) vs 1 old piece. And even if you buy the tool but you don't have the dressing harness for the grinder for any reason, the tricks here are still useful.
My wheel dresser (essentially some very hard abrasive on a stick) cost a couple of quid and works fine on small and large bench wheels. Leaves a completely square surface. Must confess I'm puzzled why anyone would need the methods in this video.
Gute Ideen die einfach nachzumachen sind ich nehme immer ein Segment einer alten Diamantscheibe und schweiße mir einen Griff ran und nutze dies dann zum Abziehen der Schleifscheibe geht auch sehr gut

Weird, I just replaced my old dresser for one of those new fangled diamond coated wheeldressers off of ebay. It cost less than $10.00, is absolutely safe and took about 6 seconds to dress my nappy old grinding wheel. Even if I didn't get the "SPECIAL" tool, I wouldn't use this method shown here, I'd get a new $13.00 stone. Although it worked, I don't like bending the rules that far.

Я ровняю проще, кусок сломанной рессоры и на включённом моторе потихоньку не спеша слегка касаясь и камень как новый, можно также старым напильником толстым тоже не плохо ровняет
Grinder from 1986 made in USSR. I have exactly the same. It dance a lot on the table. The body is too thick and therefore the diameter of the stone should be always a bit bigger. I dont use it for last few years.
Yes you can buy dressing tools ,but what AH would want to when you can do it on the cheap. dressing tools are expensive and only last 5mins So tomorrow morning early you can have a lovely straight wheel .see
Наверное проще. Если он есть. У меня например, есть несколько алмазных резцов. Я один заделал в бронзовую трубку и этой штукой выравниваю круг. А болгаркой тоже неплохо. И не обязательно даже алмазным кругом. Обдирочный диск вполне справляется.
Подручник для чего дан? Для красоты? Надо деталь хорошо прижимать к подручнику и не давить на камень, не держать деталь на одном месте, плавно водить слева направо, справа на лево, тогда и не будет образовываться эксцентриситет на камне, будет равномерно изнашиваться камень, не следует ломики и топоры на весу затачивать как некоторые рукожопы делают. Расстояние от камня до подручника должно быть минимальное. И тогда не придется ровнять камни.
@@silentcooler4160 потому что нашлось под рукой и полезло +- на сверло. А так самая обычная шарошка делается из любых шайб , чтобы свободно шевелились заьсчет этого ВЫКРАШИВАЕТСЯ зерно , из-за удара шайб по кругу , а так еще есть спец Карандаши для правки стоят копейки уж точно дешевле диска на ушм
Да, есть алмазные карандаши и правИла, а также шарошки, но я решил показать как обойтись без них - для разовой правки самое то, если вам надо выровнять камень раз в несколько лет

This is almost a good video. You should never grind on the sides of your grinding wheels! Never! It creates grooves in the wheel and eventually it will thin out too much and come apart.
@@Robstercraw Your right there. But they are designed to be on a side grinder or tool cuter grinder. Which take different wheels then a normal bench or pedal grinder. Normal bench or pedal grinder wheels are not made for side grinding.
@@1cx2william wrong. We only used bench grinders. Depending on what you are sharpening you most certainly do dress or shape the side or sides of almost all wheels. Look man, I did this professionally for over 10 years. I know what I am talking about. You don't need to dress the entire side, just the end. If you you are split pointi g a drill bit for example you use the side of the wheel for that. If you are sharpening something that is a v shape you need to dress the wheel accordingly. The face of anything is flat meaning you use the side of the wheel.
@@Robstercraw one been doing machining for 18 years including sharping my own end mills, gear cutters, and so on. Yes, I have seen people use beach grinders that way and I have seen one explode from it too. The person that had it happen to him had been doing it for over years. Just because you been lucky does mean it the right way.
Круг засаливаться будет. Зерно 60 превратится в зерно 100, а то и выше. И точить перестанет как надо. Просто шлифовать будет. Проверено на производстве.
У таких камней склейка зерен не на высоте. Единственный способ сделать его "лизуном" это поточить на нем албминий или дюраль, забить пространство между зернами укрепив попутно посадку их внешнего слоя. Вот так да. А алмазом не испортишь, следующая обработка черного метала все поставит на свои места.
А ещё проще ровнять куском от образивного круга который давно валяется где - то среди всякой не нужной мелочи Таким методом я уже польззуюсь больше 20 лет Главное чтобы кусок образива был мелкозернисым и чтоы было соблюдение правил техники безопасности (ЗАЩИТНЫЕ ОЧКИ - ДЛЯ ГЛАЗ И РАСПИРАТОР - ОРГАНЫ ДЫХАНИЯ!!!) ВСЕМ ЖЕЛАЮ УДАЧИ!!!

@@MazayDIY для безопасности экраны от абразива, очки/маска и тп. А выключением своим вы основной принцип нарушаете - два тела вращения под углом друг к другу исключают ошибки нежесткого контакта.
На больших оборотах точно не выровняете, сам мотор трясётся и выберает не там где надо, я прошу друга, чтоб он крутил наждак о другой камень рукой медленно, это я прошёл. Так же на машине неотболонсированое колесо, казалось, что где меньше изношено будет бить об асфальт и уровняется, но не тут то было изнашивается где уже изношено
There are way easier and therefore better ways to dress a grinding wheel that uses the power of the bench grinder not having to turn it on and off. They certainly don't require another electric grinder and still achieve great results. For me this is a great example of over thinking something.
@@jameschester3986 I could see needing to do some minor flattening if you aren't smart enough to not just grind in the same spot constantly, or if you were using the side of the wheel, which you aren't meant to do anyway (on most general purpose wheels). But this one he did had a huge dip in the wheel that couldnt have been made with the grinder powered on, even if you just jammed a piece of tungsten in there really hard, you cant just wear down a spot without wearing it down along the entire radius. If it jammed hard enough to break a piece out and come to a stop, i suppose that could be it, or if it was a manufacturing defect where part of it cracked off idk lol
@@petrovich5945 нет, там тяговый момент просто бычий..его не остановишь)). Да ещё и с двойной обмоткой, дополнительно разгонная сделана при утоплении кнопки. Многие не знают..вещь классная, СССР. На оборотах больших может вибрировать и бить сам вал. Поэтому точит на малых, с выключением. Есть модели таких моторов, скажем, не слишком оборотистые, а есть высокооборотистые, на которых есть риск разрыва камня, если тот плохого качества. Вот и не рискует..
Карандаш для правки круга стоит на 2021 год около 500рублей. А здесь чтобы поправить круг надо: 1. Болгарка 2.круг по камню 3.пылесос 4.струбцины 5. Какие-то палки Ну да, так же проще..
Для карандаша нужен 1.подручник,т.е какие-то палки;2 пылесос, или ты думаешь пыли не будет ;3.струбцина, а как ты хотел - шланг крепить то надо. 4.у домашнего мастера всегда, ну или почти всегда, есть ушмка.
Can't say I didn't enjoy that nasty grinder on grinder action. But I have to come out and say it, if you use a bench grinder properly you'll never have to reshape the wheel. Some metals will clog a abrasive cutting or grinding wheel but running it against a piece of concrete fixes that. Just saying.
