How to drill a hole through tile (ceramic/porcelain)

I felt I had to upload this video after seeing so many video suggestions pop up of RU-vidrs doing it Wrong. After tiling for years I have never used a Diamond Hole Saw to cut through tile. They are expensive and only cut One size. With just 3 basic tools you can cut ANY size hole you want.

If you value time you’d buy a diamond hole saw

And if you had half a brain you would understand how to do this without my help. How do you spell "dumbass" ?

@@AaronHahnStudios He is right. With your method it takes too much time and an inexperienced tiler WILL break some while trying this. Yeah I guess at this point you're going to say "I've been doing this for 69 years and blah blah blah" but you put these videos for beginners. Try being respectful next time, don't be an arse.

Agreed, I used a diamond hole saw to quickly cut two holes earlier today in less time than it took to watch this video. Their cuts were also cleaner than what was shown in this video - and they were the first cuts I've made in my life.

It's good to know how to do things more than one way. Keep in mind, this is a lot slower because he's teaching how to do this. Also, if you only have like 1 or 2 holes to make, i'd rather do this than spring for a diamond tipped hole saw.

Time is money! They don't frame houses with a hammer & nails anymore its a framing gun ie, pneumatic, gas and battery and for cutting holes in tile get a hole saw. I have to add if your ever in a tight spot and it takes longer to go to the store then what this gentleman just showed, by anymeans go for it I would but I would just cut sqaures with my grinder making them smaller than the escutcheon DONE!

Thank you for showing this technique. If the hole would have to be cut on a tile which is already installed - then I think the drill bit would be needed.
@AaronHahnStudios

Yes, your right, it would be easier with a costly drill bit if it were on the wall already. But! .. It Can be done! I've done it many times. I think I will do a video on how to do that. Great feed back marttanek.

It looks like patience is one of the elements to bring to tile jobs too! Soon I must drill holes 1cm distance away from old existing holes, on tiles already up (replacing a fan). I'm concerned 1cm is too close and it might cause cracking. However after seeing this it looks like tiles are composed of packed granular particles, so there are unlikely to be latitudinal or longitudinal 'grains' along which adjacent holes could multiply a weakness. Wood does this though. Still, I'm nervous about the close holes. I guess I must be extra careful and apply less pressure than usual, as I don't know where the gaps between glue are under the tiles. Thanks for all of the advice on your channel :)

I wish I could see your situation visually so I could help with your project. Sorry for the late response, I have been out at The Great Australian Bight working on my History aspect of this channel. I hope your project went well. All the best & take care.

@@AaronHahnStudios Hi Aaron, still haven't done it yet. They will be 6mm holes. I wish I had photos but don't unfortunately. Thanks for your reply. I'll just take my time with less pressure.

@@AaronHahnStudios Thanks. Great Video reference. As I'm not sure whether the job will present me with porcelain or ceramic, I've grabbed one of those cylindrical diamond core bits too. Whichever of the two textile types they have, I'm still going to take it very carefully. Thanks for the great uploads and for your help.

@AaronHahnStudios well you succeeded here. I originally bought a hole saw, turns out it was the wrong one and Hardware store is half hour away.. So I ended up cutting all holes with a grinder just fine. And returned unused hole saw for money back 😉😉
