00:00 Introduction
Drinking, and by that, I mean alcoholic beverages, can be a pleasure, a social expectation or tricky at times because it may damage your reputation. For example, the office holiday party almost always produces some gossip because some people to drink too much. The same goes for weddings or business dinners, you do not want to be the guy that ruins the evening for everyone or be responsible for not closing the deal.
Being intoxicated always has an impact on how you behave and how you are perceived. The truth is, we are never at our best behavior when intoxicated and the potential of long-term regret outweighs the pleasure of one night on the town, To top it all off, everyone has a smartphone these days and they take photos and videos and they may end up getting to your employer, your mom, or to that uncle who had you in his will.
So the main goal of drinking like a gentleman is to enjoy yourselves while still being civil and in full control of yourself. That being said, here are 8 practical tips that you can apply when you go out and drink.
01:57 Most importantly, know your limit. Everyone has different reactions to the amount of alcohol they drink and it is up to you to know what is acceptable and what is too much.
02:18 Two, stick with the classics. Most bartenders will be able to mix up a gin and tonic o an old-fashioned. Moreover, keep in mind, a gentleman drinks his beverage from a cup or a glass, not from the can or the bottle.
04:11 Four, pace yourself. You are under no obligation to keep up with how much other people are drinking. Ideally, you can establish your own pace and one of the best ways to fend off questions for another drink is to simply have your glass half full.
04:49 Five, be immune to peer pressure. Honestly, that is one of the hardest things for most men. Most people love to drink and enjoy doing so in a company and that may mean that they will bug you consistently.
05:12 Six, do not push drinks on other people. You may be really into paying this round of tequila shots but not everyone might be into that.
05:31 Seven, always treat the restaurant or bar staff with respect. I know that can be hard if you have been waiting in line for twenty minutes and you feel someone else has cut in line and gotten served ahead of you. Keep your composure.
06:05 Last but not least, keep your hands to yourself. Drinking will usually relax even the most guarded person's view on interpersonal space but getting too close to someone or even touch them is a clear indicator that you have had way too much to drink.
06:21 Also, a bonus tip, if you go to a bar to have a drink, don't sneak in your flask and drink from it.
In conclusion, drinking like a gentleman means you should not behave in a way that makes you a pain in the ass to others around you. Very simple, isn't it?

Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Other good tips on things like, asking a stranger to dance, wear to look so as not to come off as creepy, how to dance well without showing off. The potential could really go on and on. Dancing is one of the oldest gentleman's hobbies and seems worthy of discussion.

I always go by responsible drinking. This is because a few years ago I started drinking a single glass of wine with my dinner on occasions despite drinking underage. But I'm glad it happened because it keeps me in a good light and it counteracts the culture of Australian youth, that is binge drinking the day you turn the legal age of 18. Even with something as informal as beers, I sip on them in moderation to embrace the brewery.

Very timely video. I've seen many good employees tank their careers at holiday parties through inappropriate behavior or choosing to drive while intoxicated. Also, it's a good idea to refrain from taking drunken selfies. It's one thing to have a few too many, it's quite another to document your boorish/drunken behavior for all to see. Happy Holidays!

In my opinion drinking really differs from occasion to occasion, at business dinners I obviously limit my drinking. Yet, from experience, I can say that most people don't hold back at networking drinks, I've seen some high end business man go quite far and it always stays within the group. So I'd just look for what kind of people are at whatever place you're drinking at, if your familiar with the group you're probably familiar with their drinking etiquette.

The amount of people that are rude to restaurant or bar staff is unbelievable. My advice, NEVER work in a restaurant or a bar. People are rude and don't care about you. Occasionally, there will be guests that treat you with respect and acknowledge that you're busy and working hard. However most of the time, there won't be.
@hakes98
@hakes98 5 лет назад
As a person that usually enjoy bars and drinks alone, I can guarantee that tipping (even in europe or elsewhere where not tipping isn't frowned upon) and being friendly totally pays off. I get free drinks at my bar all the time when the bartender accidentally makes the wrong cocktail or use the wrong alcohol, then they ask me if I'd like a perfectly fine cocktail that was mistankely made. I also frequently get free drinks if they just happen to feel like it. Usually if I spend 40€ on drinks I get 50€ worth of them. Also bartenders are good company.

If you want to make sure the bartender keeps you in mind, even when it gets busy, spark up conversation with them in the down time, especially about the specific products or even the bar concept in general. Guests who seem genuinely interested in the establishment or the beverages do get more attention from me and I tend to notice them more even when it's very busy.

My 18th and 19th birthdays became so messy I gave up drinking for ten years, only the odd one but I became the designated driver instead. A few months back I went on holiday with some friends and I got super drunk.. Hearing the stories of me dancing for hours when there was no music, and apparently I am a "really funny happy drunk".. Thank god my friend found me passed out over a staircase of the hotel opposite our villa at 6am.. (we tried to ride our bikes back but one of my mates threw me in a taxi because I kept falling off) but I will only ever drink 3 beers if I go to a gig but I don't go out out anyway unless it's an occasion..even then drinking isn't my thing, just watch out of the strawberry daiquiris, they can be lethal while on holiday in a hot country! Haha nice video again!

On a Christmas Eve years ago, I once stood next to Cowboy's great Michael Irvin and his cousin at a large packed bar. They had the bartender use a can opener to make a small hole in the bottom of a Red Bull can, next let a little out and refill that amount with several shots of Jagermeister. They held that up to their mouths and popped the the top seal and shot it within seconds. After several they wished everyone a Merry Christmas and off they went.

My choice of drink is usually either a dry martini with a ratio of between 6:1 and 10:1 gin to vermouth, or a single malt scotch and I will usually drink 1 or 2 an hour at most and usually drink water to alternate. Learned from a casual New Year's gathering at my house a couple of years ago when I got so drunk I had no idea what went on after 2am that night. Something I'll never do again.

Lime and soda looks good. Many of my friends don't drink anymore because they are parents, or they are driving. The favorite for them around my place is 1/3 cranberry juice and 2/3 ginger ale. I serve it in a crystal wine glass type water glass so it's still festive. A note on whiskeys -- try Wiser's. It is aged for 8 years and is very smooth.

Sven; as always great video. I enjoy your presentation and practical advise. I was wondering about your cut away collar however. Someone of reputable notoriety once elaborated that cut away collars with a tie are a bad idea.

Mr. Schneider, Gentleman's Gazette is my favorite men's style channel and you in particular have inspired me with the confidence to really begin dressing like a gentleman despite having such a late start at it in life. My new "proper" wardrobe that I have recently begun putting together as a result of the newfound inspiration is still quite basic at the moment but, while overwhelming at times to decide which and what and how to purchase next, I am utilizing a lot of your tips and guidelines in considering all of my pieces, current and future. I really appreciate all of the work you put into your channel and your videos. In particular, being a casual history enthusiast I appreciate the related historical backgrounds you give to different pieces in so many of your style guides. Above all else though, I appreciate the general guidelines you give for incorporating classic men's wear from the traditional and timeless perspective. Thanks for all that you do for us simple men out there who need a helping hand in this arena. Cheers!

Most bartenders can't make an old fashioned to save their lives. If they can, they typically don't have the ingredients as basic as they are. The old fashioned is my go to drink.
