This is a late reply, but Western tea etiquette dictates that the saucer remains on the table if the table is dining height. If it is a lower coffee table, or if you are standing, you hold the saucer.

I'm English and drink a lot of Earl Grey and Columbian coffee. I put a silver spoon in my cup to cool it faster. It may not be right but it's all I have left of my dad, aside from huge shoulders so I'll keep doing my thing n let everyone else do their's🤣

Your supposed to use the saucer so the tea doesn’t get on your clothes, that’s why it’s there. 🤨 you’ll see ladies, for example, in the 1900s drink tea in a lounging room. They pick up the saucer so the tea didn’t spill on the sofa or their dress.

It's actually very 'elegant' to stick your pinky out and pick up the saucer. It's what they did in the middle ages at the height in 'elegance'. Also, wearing so much make-up that if you so much as breathed on her it would be on you is not very elegant.
