Since opening way back in 1863, the Metropolitan line (aka The Purple One) has gone from a passenger and goods railway to the 42 mile, 34-station high frequency tube we know today. 59 vehicles operate on the line, each seating 306 passengers, and the Met is most valued for its express commuter service, ferrying workies from the suburbs to the city in quick sharp time.
Here’s what it’s really like to drive the Metropolitan line, from Aldgate to Harrow-on-the-Hill.

@100temps
@100temps 5 лет назад
Alfred H You can only instruct on the lines that you are qualified on. Most Instructor Operators (IOs) are assigned to one Depot and are qualified on one line. You wouldn’t have a Metropolitan Line IO training somebody on the Central Line for instance. The only people who drive trains on multi-lines are those that drive our engineering trains that work mostly at night or on weekends. They are the highest paid train operators which reflects their training and knowledge of the system.

Do you think that the Croxley Rail Link to Watford Junction will still happen which a new viaduct to be built and 2 new stations to be built (Cassiobridge and Vicarage Road). And Watford station to be used as a siding & train depot for Metropolitan Line S8 Stocks. If the extension is to go ahead despite it has been postponed until further notice or could be postponed because of lack of money.

Not going to happen in London. The most we've heard about with full-automation is that the new Bakerloo/Piccadilly/Central/Waterloo & City line trains will be capable of fully-automatic operation, but will be built with a cab and even with the new signalling to be introduced on those lines, they still won't be capable of it

NYCT/ MTA is much better. We have more stations. We have new bus stocks. And the new R211 cars come out in 2020. Unlike London, MTA takes 4 US states. We got so many bus routes. #LondonSucks #MTANYCTIsBetter

@86501freightliner
@86501freightliner 4 года назад
Lol, good joke. You may have "more stations", but NYC's subway system is literally falling apart. London's bus operators are also frequently upgrading and renewing their bus fleet. Since 2009, five of London's underground lines have received brand-new rolling stock, whilst you have to wait until 2020 to receive any new trains. The underground also serves the neighbouring counties (The admistrative equivalent to a US state) of Essex, Hertfordshire, and Buckinghamshire, not just Greater London itself. #MTASucks #LondonUndergroundIsBetter #DontBeAMoron
