droped a screw down the throttle body into the intake manifold on a df250. Found it years later when exchanging the manifold. Was still in there, never made it to the valves/pistons .
I really like Dave, I don't care what anyone says. He seems super patient enough as an experienced mechanic. If something stupid like that happened to a brand new motor of mine, I would've taken it down to the range and blew a ton of holes through it! Thanks for showing Dave again Pete! He seems like a really nice guy!

ive seen engines get rebuilt and no fuckin head gasket on the pass side water come out the rad like old faithful no shit!!! seen paper towel chunks clog pickups just gotta laugh and remember shit happens!!!if youre good it only happens once p.s. that stuff wasn't me but I did manage to get dumptruck trans and diff back together only to have 2 fwd gears and 10 reverse never again!!
I've seen a dumbass leave a rag in the intake it sucked it into the head it was coming out a couple intake valves but never a bolt or washer that would fuck things up big time
So Dave takes the carb off to replace the one stud. I see Dave walk off with an open intake manifold? No rag, no cardboard to cover the open manifold? I think he didn't learn to much doing all that rework.
When I was 17 , 18 yrs old I had a 63 C-10 with I think a 292 6 in it ... Well I wanted a cool chrome air cleaner on it . I went to My fathers auto parts store and pulled a Cool Chrome air cleaner off of the shelf ... But it was to tall for the screw that held the original on on the one barrel carb so , Being 17 or so and not knowing my ass from a hole in the ground . I grabbed a piece of all thread and 2 nuts... well you can see where this is going ... 70 miles an hour on rt62 heading home the nut vibrated off the all thread and blew a hole right through number 2 piston... My father came called his buddy with a tow truck and that 63 chevy sat at the store (J& R Auto Parts) until I earned every penny to rebuild that motor... My son did the same thing drop the wing nut for the air cleaner down through the carburetor ended up in the valve train fucking everything up he lied about it also you thought you're yelling at people you should have heard me it ran good until he put the air cleaner on what the fuck
Just yesterday my friend was putting back the top of his Edelbrock carb. He noticed the star adapter needed to tighten the screws fell off the extension. He thought it fell outside the manifold n was safe. Well he started up the 454 n there was knocking going on. I wish he would took the carb off n checked the intake before starting it. I guess that's it for the 454 with a death knock. I feel for him.
your Super Dave ace Mechanic looks like and reminds me of a guy i worked with one time. Tried to JB weld broken window regulator arm. Then wondered why it came back couple days later.
Man that sucks. years ago i removed an upper intake off a Dodge Caravan to replace the valve cover gaskets... a washer thats usually made onto the intake bolts had craked and stayed on the intake until i moved the intake... it fell in the engine and i didnt realize it.. i had to replace 3 pistons, three intake valves and three exhaust valves. i was in too much a hurry to get the job done... that fucks ya every time! ouch!
My dad was a master mechanic for over 50 years and I worked with him from the age of 7 . I started after school sweeping floors and stuff and later I did simple oild changes but by the time I was 12 I could tear a motor down rebuild in my sleep. Even working with him I seen things new in the box have problems. And he even had a carb exploded after the factory fill in the jets with the wrong chemical.
Yup that one washer ,you will need head work ,piston replacement, rod replacement, and all the related goodies to get it back together. Check the cam and lifters to make sure you are wiping out some flat tappets
Dave did it. Because when replacing the short studs He did NOT have the intake port covered even after having to tear it all apart because something has gotten into there.
Rebuilt the carb on my 72 Lincoln and when I started it I heard a knocking sound, shut her off , took carb off and noticed a a bolt was missing from the underside, of course I took the wrong head off first, found it in the the number 8 cylinder, had the heads redone just because, lesson learned.
most new carbs don't come with washers, studs, or nuts. I bet that washer or those washers fell in the intake when the original carb was pulled. Should just of rebuilt the Q-jet...when properly tuned they are way better than that Edelbrock.

I'm not a mechanic and I could be wrong here, but aren't you supposed to make sure that the passages and openings of the carburetor are free and clear of any debris before attaching it to the motor?
thats what happens when you don't pay attention to what you are doing even though you have done it for years if you guys noticed Dave still didn't put the longer stud bolts in the carb like like Pete was pointing out todave the wonder mechanic guy pete was right in what he was saying to super Dave clown guy 927 maybe Pete should train Dave to do things right he obviously hears Pete talk maybe he should start listening to it.

I can understand making a mistake. I can't understand being unwilling to admit it, ragging on someone before its clear what happened, or doing a slipshod job of reassembly. This may not be Arkansas, but sure as shootin' this is shady tree mechanical work.
In Dave's defense...How did the washer/washers get into the carb?..Wouldn't you think the carb packers would put any hardware (nuts bolts washers) in a plastic satchel?..Did the guy who bought the carb open the bag to see what's in there.?..And who turns a brand new carb upside down to shake out any loose bits and pieces.?..A bit harsh Pete...I rest my case.
+ZIGgassedUP Dave is taking a LOT of shit he dose Not deserve at all, 1) Dave is not an employee of Pete yet Pete throw's abuse at him like Pete is paying him, 2) Dave does know that it would be better to change all studs versus one stud, but Dave's Real boss, Rick, told Dave to change one stud, 3) there very likely was a washer stuck inside the carb due to poor packing and this problem was not the fault of Dave, 4) Imagine someone following Pete around with a camera and talking down to Pete while he had the issues with the '34 Ford, 5) the employee problem is self-evident.

No but I have seen somebody install bolts too long instead of studs to secure the carb onto the intake and knocking the bottom of the intake casting into the cylinder causing a knocking noise. What makes this a problem is there is a chevrolet eight in a YJ jeep which never happened stock. What we have here are two ball breakers one the 8 cyl in a YJ and pete ball breaker two
Also, it is ENTIRELY possible to have foreign objects lost in the venturis of a carb "fresh from the store", especially if the heat-shrunk poly-plastic wrap enclosing the carb has been cut/torn/removed, indicating a previous sale & return. Remember, that carb you purchase at the local cheesebox parts store likely wasn't even manufactured/remanufactured in the US, but overseas. No telling what manner of chicanery went on in the country of origin. ALWAYS inspect EVERY venturi & external cubic inch of a carb before going anywhere near the engine bay with it, every recess & solenoid & bit of linkage. Who knows what tiny tool-bit or fastener might be hung up some where & just waiting to drop straight down the plenum & into the cylinder?
with that carb adapter there using it will never run right all the tubulance under the carb will cause flat spots and idel problems .why did not thay go to a better intake

Yeah but Pete admits when he makes mistakes and learns from them and thus he expects the same from others but you can see that Dave didn't make any changes to his work procedures to make sure it didn't happen again. I bet Dave never expected he would become (in)famous from his own involuntary RU-vid channel...lol.
I know it would take me a hour tops to have the top end off that thing and that's not rushing this guy it takes 6 hours to do it tearing down is quick it's the putting back together is where you take the time and do it right but still don't take 3 days I would of had that done in a day unless I had to wait for ordered parts
I was working on 09 murano i was changing the coil cylinder #5 and moving the intake out of the way a fkn nut fell inside the hole so now I don't know what to do cause I cracked up engine for like couple seconds and I heard little something bouncing inside the intake please give me some ideas to get it out
Pete has to be mechanic guy supervisor motivator now? lol Do the job ONCE, done; get it done. A lesson I abide by. Small hardware on the engine, I dont even touch it, I magnet it to pick it up. I never dropped anything in a engine. but did drop hardware in hard to get to spots. Pick it with a magnet, it wont drop

The movie MY COUSIN VINNY said: there is a procedure to rebuilding a carburetor. If you drop one of the jets down the manifold and it rolls along the manifold into the head, YOU'RE F*CKED!.. I worked on all types of engines and have never had this type of problem. WTF?
There's enough that can go wrong with a proper engine build without adding anything more to potentially F up. This is the reason mechanics get blasted as being dim wits. At least he did replace all the stud bolts (even though you did ride your boy pretty hard). I didn't however see any lock-tite put on (maybe the camera missed it), I can see those nuts backing off after the studs stretch a bit. Things do however happen sometimes, there's no shame admitting a mistake, we've all done some, lying about it only compounds the problem, puts doubt in peoples mind of your overall abilities and other things you may have done.
Shit does happen. That is a FACT. I took my little 4 cylinder car in to have a timing belt replaced. They forgot to put locktite on the bolt which locks the timing gear to the camshaft, the camshaft broke week later, then they used a hammer to remove the camshaft and screwed up the head. They fired the mechanic yet claimed no fault and the entire fiasco cost me 1800 dollars and yes, I paid for everything, including a new battery on top of all that because mine accidently got thrown in the trash at some point in time during the repair. So I guess shit does happen.
marcellinasfigaro Sometimes shit just happens bro. And somebody has to be willing to bear the cost of training others to do it right. Discipline accompanies training I'll admit but the costs go further than just a single disciplined individual. For me it was money and inconvenience. For the owner of the garage it was his business's reputation and lost future revenue. For the mechanic it was his job and a black spot on his reputation as well. Then there are the families of the affected individuals and the ripple effect experienced by them caused by one man's ignorance. These are many of the things brother Pete points at in his videos. We watch - we listen and hopefully we learn but it still demands truth in an attitude of love.
I work with a guy named Dave, everything just happens to him but its never his fault. Whenever something breaks he'll say "the bolts decided to break" but never would he say "i was impatient and broke the bolts". he says shit all the time like "why does everything always happens to me?" I've never seen him take responsibility or own up to a mistake. I can't stand people like that, everyone makes mistakes but its how you handle them that counts. case in point, there was a washer inside the carburetor... Really? I've never seen a washer used on the internals of a carburetor. either way, it's your responsibility to make sure the parts are clean and that there's no loose parts or debris inside the parts you're installing. so yea dave it was your fault.
I like the no beer rules...haven't drank in 10 yrs pete. life is way better....we lost our grandma ,which was the only thing keeping us in Cleveland...hopefully I can travel with the family soon and see ya again..also I'm watching this terrible "situation " and the asshole still doesn't cover the intake for round 2 or 3 when doing the studs..COVER THE FUCKING HOLE.
