How to: Drop or Remove the Gas Tank on a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse 

Usually before I even start dropping the tank I will line the fuel tank up with a couple Jack's to assist with the weight of the tank while coming down . It Make things much easier... You did a good job as well

Brother, suggestion for safety i would have disconnected the battery before starting the process to prevent any kinda spark from any of those connectors, stranger things hav happen,an always ones safety first!

George, Thanks for the details. I did some improvements when lowering the tank. 1) First thing was to run the full gas tank to about 250 mi, I know that will leave about 1/4 tank full. 2) Then I remove center strap, then place a floor jack with a 2x4 on top and hold middle of the tank in place. 3) Then remove top and bottom straps keeping the tank level on top of the jack. 4) Place floor dollies on top and bottom to lay tank on top and makes it easier to move. Hope this helps.... :)

Doing this right now. Gotta be careful with the strap bolts, my center one snapped. The holes in some places you can snake a wd40 straw into and take your time working back and forth if you don't have impact tools and just hand tools

Just think how much more fun it's going to be to re-install the tank. Recommend removing most of the fuel first.

You know what I will make an opening in the body behind the driver seat to avoid that complex steps .. that will be more easy to access the pump

The 2011 Traverse will actually tell you via the informational display on the dashboard when you are LOW on fuel and that would be the BEST time to do this job. 10:05 10:25 STOP IMMEDIATELY and EMPTY the gas tank by pumping it out with a GROUNDED, EXPLOSION PROOF fuel pump. Again.... THIS is WHY you drive the vehicle to a NEAR EMPTY condition BEFORE starting a job like this. YOU Gotta' THINK AHEAD people. He showed a bunch of tools at the beginning of the video BUT the most important tool that he DIDN'T show is the HUMAN BRAIN. That's the FIRST tool you MUST use when planning a job / project.
