His accent is so funny because he's from Minnesota, but is a bass pro so he is constantly surrounded by southern guys. So he's got a mix of Minnesota and southern accent. Pretty funny.

i feel like alot of people over looked bass fishing in minnesota until this years a.o.y. tournament ive lived in minnesota my whole life and the bass fishing is fanominal its more known for the small mouth but the largemouth fishing is also very very good. tons of big bass to be caught up here great video!!!!!
@Wired2Fish

Thanks Derek, we agree. Our fishing culture has seemed to favor walleye, panfish and pike more than bass, but that seems to be changing now with some millennials. Folks are starting to enjoy the bass fishing sport more and more, especially with teens - mid 20's anglers. Given this, I view MN as an emerging bass fishing market with lots of room for growth, both with our resident population and tourism. We haven't been a tournament friendly state overall, so I think that's kept us off the radar too. The BASS AOY event on Mille Lacs, and the MLF event in Grands Rapids has brought a lot of visibility from the broader bass fishing community. - Ryan

@@Wired2Fish Man time flies... 9 out of 10 anglers I see on metro lakes now are keyed in on bass. Seems like the walleye guys hunker down for the spring/summer or go way up north. Also due to increased fishing pressure and average lake clarity, finesse is the way to go. Minnetonka will have weed lines in nearly 20ft of water with how clear its gotten with the zebra mussels.

I miss fishing for smallies, use to have two lakes that had them up to four pounds. One is almost dry and the other is pretty low and hard to launch. Plus I now live further away. Great video and thanks for the info. Scott - CCB.

Sounds like a plan but I sure wish my local lakes would fill up. Every lake I fish here in Cali looks like a gravel pit. A low one at that, I walk 30 yards just to reach shore. Again great video. Scott - CCB.

Thanks for the video. There’s one aspect of fishing a drop shot rig that I don’t get and hope that either you - or one of your subscribers who have experience using it - can explain. I thought that the technique is for fishing vertically, either from a boat or a pier or breakwater etc. from dry land. However, many pro anglers suggest that it can be cast out and, not only that, but fished in fairly shallow water. This I don’t understand, because the main line is not going to be perpendicular to the water, it’s going to be at a minimum of 45 degrees - if not more. Consequently, the lure will not be ‘swimming’ anywhere near horizontally in the water column - but either pointing down at a steep angle towards the bottom or upwards at a steep angle towards the surface. This strikes me as being a most unnatural presentation and would not fool a bass or, indeed, any other predatory fish! So, what am I missing? Help please!
@Unspoke
@Unspoke 4 года назад
I think what you're missing out on is how it's being presented. The retrieve is almost never fast (hence the 45 degrees or more), but slow and methodical motion. You're retrieving the bait, but making sure it stays at the targeted depth range that you want it to be. Occasionally, here and there, you would want to jig the drop-shot coming back. It all depends on the condition of the weather too.

I don't think fish actually care too much about the angle of the bait.

Gotta have some good electronics for this kind of fishing in the video but drop shotting is easy. Easy to rig up, and you can use almost any kind of soft plastic. A lot of people get intimidated about it, but as long as you get the right kind of terminal tackle, it's real easy to do and it's a guaranteed fish catcher. It will catch fish when nothing else will. The tricky part is simply locating the fish, and the deep water structure, and that's where the electronics come in. But if you don't have electronics, and just want to use a drop shot, it's simple to rig up and fish on any kind of spinning tackle. Get some 1/0 Gamakatsu split shot/drop shot hooks, some casting weights in a variety of sizes(1/4oz is a good place to start, go lighter or heavier depending on conditions) and some baits to use. Roboworms are good. KVD dream shots. Jackall Crosstail shads. Etc. You can't go wrong with any of those baits. Natural colors like green pumpkin, watermelon/red or shad colors, and brighter translucent colors like morning dawn also work incredibly well on sunny days. You'll catch loads of fish. I fish a drop shot on a 7ft medium power spinning rod with a 2500 series reel, 15lb braided line to an 8lb fluorocarbon leader. Killer setup.

How is he staying in one spot on those fish on top of that rock? With spot lock on his trolling motor? Those are some high winds and big waves.

Ruben Chirita that’s nothing for Mille lacs. He still had a fortrex so no spot lock, just excellent boat control
