How to make dual boot without usb? I downloaded unetbootin but when i make my harddisk as bootable disk it only shows Ubuntu version 20 series or below, but i have Ubuntu 22.04 downloaded
This messed up my windows boot manager from bios, everytime i have to boot into windows, i have to first load ubuntu bootloader, then select windows. please make a video to fix this issue.
@@robertbob-manuel6327 Linux is better for coding, but lacks compatibility with a lot of windows programs, namely videogames. So if you want to play games on a Linux laptop you may have to jump through some obnoxious hoops, and some games may not even run. But with dual booting you can use Linux for coding, windows for leisure and it's a goated set up
@@yeezybreezy9350 Eh, wouldn't undermine the amount of games Linux still supports, even if Windows supports much more - you can play quite a number of games on Linux technically speaking. Also, Linux is also good for leisure and everyday usage too, it's just Windows can do more things and can run professional programs that Linux doesnt support as of yet. Plus it's propietary software like Office has more features than Libre, though many people dont strictly need those added features either.
Hi thanks for the video. I have a problem if someone can help me with. when I get to the part where I have to choose a device for boot loader installation. I don't get the option of windows boot manager. Also when I tried shrinking the storage I did not have an EFI partition nor a recovery partition. I'm stuck if someone can help it would be very cool thanks :)
I made a mistake and chose a device for boot loader installation other than windows boot manager and it screwed Any way to re choose the device or smth??
I am going to install ubuntu (22.10) on its own SSD, i.e. not on an SSD shared with Windows. Would I choose "Something else" in the "Installation type" dialog? Would "Device for boot loader installation" be "Windows boot manager"?
Bruh 9:10, first option isn't displaying only 2nd & 3rd are displaying & when i used the Something Else option like you, my screen isn't showing any EFI partitions & when i chose SDA 1 like you did, it says no EFI partition

I can heartly recommend refind for uefi machines as a bootmanager for dualboot/multiboot. Sudo apt install refind.... Awesome piece of software, lets you boot from usb or go to system setup, nice gui. I install it on every computer i get my hands on😉 Thx to Roderick Smith who made this.
If anyone gets the error "No EFI System Partition was found" when trying to install, you have to first allocate a small portion (256MB) for the EFI. Just add it before making the big partition at 10:55. Make sure to select EFI as the mounting point for the small partition. Then create the big on like in the video with the remaining space, and the install should work just fine.
Typically that means there's some data still in the back end of the C drive and that the partitioning tools doesn't want to allow you to overwrite the data. IF you don't need anything on the drive you could potentially reformat or figure out how to remove the data.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH! I have been trying to install Ubuntu or Zorin, and I watched about 7 videos, but they were not clear... Then i came across yours, and it......... WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot thank you enough! Best youtuber ever!
Thanks, nicely done. What does the Install along Windows do differently than what you did manually, relative to partitions and selecting the boot loader partition. I'm wondering if I can make the drive space (shrink), and then let the ubuntu install wizard take care of the manual steps.
I have a pc with Asus Z97-A motherboard, Intell i5 4690k processor, 16gb DDR3 ram, and 3 internal hard drives. My 1st hard drive, I already have Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on it and been using it for the past few years (no, I do not want windows 10 or 11) My 2nd hard drive is for installing Linux Mint 20.3. My 3rd hard drive is a 3tb thats just for back ups. for Windows and Linux files So what are the steps for installing Linux Mint 20.3 onto my 2nd hard drive and optimizing the settings for multi-boot?
Hi i have a doubt in this since it is my first time installing a OS at first I clicked on the Ubuntu menu to install alongside Windows boot manager but it seemed like ubuntu was not installed so i did again but this time i set the location of memory to be used which i kept has a partition from the c:/ drive so my doubt is where there a same OS could've been installed twice ? Thank u....
@@libera9519 i solved this with adding a path for ubuntu boot manager but it caused a different problem. i saw over 100 firmware address. i could not reach linux again. after that, deleted every path for linux manually. i decided to remove linux and install a virtual machine. but I'm not happy with this.
Excellent! At around 11:53, I decided to explore installing Ubuntu on my 12-year-old Mac since the current macOS on my machine is outdated. While I aim to keep macOS for specific purposes, I partitioned the SSD in macOS and encountered some challenges recognizing the partition in the Ubuntu installer. Disappointingly, the disk selection stage in the Ubuntu installer seemed cumbersome with its greyed-out checkboxes, lacking informative metadata for decision-making, and an absence of a help button. Compared to Apple’s user-centric design, this stage in Ubuntu’s installer appears less intuitive.
does this still work? i messed up with my other back-up pc testing dual booting, had to go through a bunch of trouble to switch back to windows. I need my main pc to actually have dual boot system, and i don't want to go through that again, it was mortifying
Let the [ Primary/Logical ] and [ Beginning-of-the-space/End-of-the-space ] default. Don't change these setting, Let them as it is. Just change the SIZE, USE AS, MOUNT POINT
Hey Nik, great video and I'm about to do this on a new laptop I got because I want to run Fedora 36 on it but don't want to format just yet because of warranty (just in case they cry foul). you should do a tutorial on how to revert back to single boot (either Linux or windows). thanks! and I subbed 👍🏻 Nevermind, found your older video explaining it 😆
This really helped a lot! 🙌 I was really getting confused with all those articles and other stuff. Your video was very simple thorough and understandable. Thanks 😄
Befor I always leave a partition for linux,, But today I install a new PC I found I just need click "next", "next", "next".... then everythning is done! I only thing I have to do is change default boot order.
Typically you want it off or else the system may not boot into BIOS. If you want to try it and see if your system works that's fine. If you get trouble just go back and disable.
Hi, thank you for the guide! Got one question though. Boot loader install to windows boot manager will not destroy it? A little hesitate to try it... And I want to install ubuntu in a second ssd, can I follow the same procedure?
Thank you so much for this amazing explanation!, you did not hesitate to explain the something else option, which many others did not explain. Keep going like that, you earning is well deserved.
I got everything to work I had to format my boot as AHCI because I have an RTS laptop. But after everything I notice the SSD volume on the left in Ubuntu is 940GB not my partition I created. Any fix?
That would be hard to fix. If the free area was behind that would help, but since some of the partition table data is in the front you'll probably screw up your linux distro
I've installed ubuntu on laptop on dual boot, but its getting about 1 minute to boot and after booting up and logging in takes to black screen and after 20 seconds the desktop shows up. i dont know why its this much slow
Thanks for fast response last comment it is asking me to format on the balena etcher what do i format it as im not a big computer guy so i am a bit stuck
Excellent, Professional Tutorial. Worker perfectly on a HP All-In-One 24 r014. Thank You for taking the time and energy to share and produce the video :)
When I remove USB and press enter after installation my laptop says no bootable device found where my Ubuntu goes? And my track pad freez some times why?
Don't waste your time watching at this hundred thousandth useless video about dual booting Windows / Linux onto a single disk no matter what it is a SSD or HDD. Most of people's comments asking on how to properly install Linux on a single drive having Windows already installed on it and NOT having the fucking GRUB starting received 0 answer. Most of average PC users want to start straight into Windows and if they want to use Linux, they want to have the choice by pressing a " F " key at bios starting. So this guy is one more unable people to explain how to properly add a /boot, /EFI parttition to do it right.
I keep getting the “The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume read-only with the `ro` mount option.” Error . I have fastboot turned off, I tried the restarting from windows, and also used command prompt to turn off the laptop.. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
So like, before I mess up everything. I have two partitions of disc space. C and D. C is the root directory for software, and D is what I use to everything else and it has excess disc space.. Am I supposed to use the C, or I can choose the D?
Hi buddy.... I am trying to follow you but when it comes to allocated space for installation and I have two storages one is C drive for windows and other HDD for Ubuntu but when I allocate the free space it's throwing an error idk what is that but I'm not able to proceed further 😊
My Nvidia grafics doesnt work with proprietary drivers. Thas odd, but i'm using Noveau driver, no problems. TKS for the video. Very usefull. Grettings from São Paulo, Brasil.
I used the advanced startup restart option, and skipped the bios part, rest of the installation went smooth, but I am not getting the grub screen on restart. How do I fix this?
How much space do you recommend to use for Linux? Actually i have SSD Nvme 2.0 1TB and i want at least 250GB for Linux, is it okay? I want to use Ubuntu and start programming on in instead of Windows.
Hello Thanks for the tutorial In my case I needed to add another partition separated for data (contains data from both Windows and Ubuntu) but the plus sign is locked cannot add it, any help please ?
Hey, first of all thanks for the informative video! Second, I would like to know which tool did you use to capture the screen, even while you were rebooting and the BIOS. Because at that point your tool, which needed an OS, was still running. Could you please share?
Home can help separate your files from the operating system. Making it easier to transfer from computer to computer. Swap partitions are an old way of creating swap space. Now-a-days they're usually files that are designated to memory overflow and exist on the root partition.
Really well presented without all the drivel some people put in their videos. We dont need to see your cat or know what you had for breakfast. Possible the most detailed yet to the point video on youtube. Worked Great.
Hi, Could you explain to me where I should shrink storage space for Ubuntu, if I have 256gb ssd C: (of which 110gb free, and where windows 10 is) and 1tb hdd (D: and E:), mostly free? I thought it's best to install completely on ssd but I don't know whether I can do that, and how much should I leave for Ubuntu and how much for Windows, if I plan to do programming on Linux and use Windows for other stuff? Thanks a lot...
Pleeeeeas How should I know which dev/sda is the windows all have the same name but with different numbers . Also there is ATA WDC WD20SPZX-08U (2.0 TB) PLEAS REPLLLLLY I HAVE AN ASSIGNMENT
Hi, I have followed the step by step in your video. At the end, after doing ENTER, no Windows or Ubuntu options appear, but immediately restart and enter Windows 10. Then tried to reinstall, but the disk was already used with the name Ubuntu. Any solution for this?
i did it, at first Ubuntu installation was normal, until finished and needs to restart, after restart, only windows 10 booting up, Dual boot isn't working😢
Thank you for this stunnin tutorial. Unfortunately, I haven't an option for save ext4 (/dev/sda1 Windows Boot Manager) so I just saved it in dev/sda harddisk, after installation my windows starting, and no free space for ubuntu I've created. However, any information or data about Ubuntu exists on my laptop
@@SavvyNik I'm posting this reply from within the linux OS in fact. It's very snappy. The only thing I miss from Windows is a lot of the apps that I found indispensable and not available for Linux...at least yet. I'm scouring the Linux app store and doing Google searches for alternatives. :-( All I need now is an effective and ESPECIALLY "easy to use" dual boot software.... because the swapping between Win & Linux is a bit of a pain. I have to keep pressing the F12 key repeatedly to bring up the boot order menu on my Lenovo desktop. I tried Refind and another one (forget the name) that claimed to have a easy to follow GUI interface with no success. Thanks again for your very detailed tutorial. PS. I miss just pressing the win & period keys on windows to bring up the emojis. Apparently, it doesn't work on Linux. :-(
Ok. Good video. How about some decent instruction on installing Ubuntu 22.04 dual boot on Dell XPS 8920. I have issues installing it. Specifically with intel's RST stuff. Can you point me in the right direction?
I have installed Ubuntu on pair with Windows 10, and everything was fine. Tomorrow lost boot menu where it asks to choose OS to boot. I returned the boot menu with the command prompt, but then I only had Windows as an option to boot in. So Ubuntu somehow is gone although i have disabled Windows fast startup.
After changing the boot options, how were you able to go back to the main selection page with all of the options? Did you click exit or turn off your computer and turn it on?
I got this message when i clicked install now : No EFI system Partition was found. This system will likely not be able to boot successfully and the installation process may fail. Please go back and add an EFI System Partition or continue at your own risk. Also on the page where you click "Something Else" it said that there isnt an operating system that exists on the laptop.
