After a lot of requests I've put together a fairly detailed video of how I dump a framed dump trailer. Hopefully some people can take some ideas from this and use it for themselves (New and Old). Thanks for watching!

Also when you start to lift the bed, if the cylinder leans to one side it will let you know if you’re not level and give you the opportunity to lower the bed back and reposition before you get too high and flip

I'm thankful for guys like him who takes time out of his day to explain how to do his job and in as much detail as possible. Seems like a great guy. I'm thinking of getting into the dump trailer sect of trucking so this helps. I've done dump truck, walking floor and Tipper trailers as well as a little step deck, flat bed, curtainside and container while the majority of my career was Reefer and dry van. So even tho this is close to dump truck it's still completely different and to me much more complex and dangerous so yeah guys like him are a big help.

Your videos are very good. Thank you I enjoy them. The way you drive, explain what you’re doing, attention to detail, etc. you go the extra mile to explain what it takes to do it right like a professional. Reminds me of me. Lol. All kidding aside you are really doing a great service to the rookies out there. I have been driving for 25yrs. And hauled everything from oversized to coils, frameless dump etc. I was very fortunate to have been taught by grandpa,dad, at a very young age. The problem today I think is all the old school guys are dead or retired so the newer generation is really missing out. Unless they are fortunate enough to run across guys like you or me that are willing and able to pass it on and take pride and love what they do. Ain’t nothing like going down the highway in a Legacy Class Peterbilt with a 18speed and a hot rod KT Cummings roaring. They call me ( Topshelf) I’ll catch ya on the flip 10/4.

I grew up around dump trucks and dump trailers and drove them both for over 30 years and you did a great job with this one. The one thing that I do differently is put air back in the truck suspension so that keeps the truck from spinning like what happened to you when you pulled up and the other thing is with a frameless trailer I only used the hand brake because if you needed to move fast you can jam it in gear and release the brakes faster with the hand valve. Dumping a frameless in landfills for years and had many situations where it sank on one side and just being able to quickly pull up 5 feet made the difference between a good dump or a long bad day. You do a great job taking care of Idlewild's equipment Wes and it shows that you take pride in your work. A lot slobs would just run down the road and sling that material out of the wheels at other vehicles.
@Wgrippin
@Wgrippin 3 года назад
Thanks for watching. Great advice on the trolly brake. I think it actually applies more pressure too. I’ve had frameless roll forward when the trailer brakes were set but wouldn’t roll with the trolly set. Plus like you mentioned it’s much quicker in case you need to act fast. Thanks for the comment and advice.

One thing about frameless or quarter frame you can push yourself out if stuck, up the box to you, apply trailer brake and down your trailer while helping in low gear, also good to turn around on a barge with your box up, watch your gate though!

My son needs to watch this. He's too "smart" to listen to my warnings about these end-dumps laying over while dumping. The issue most prevalent for us is wind - but wet manure and compost can also freeze in large clumps, or to the trailer sides if left loaded overnight during sub-zero weather. In this part of TX there can be days and days of high winds that hamper dumping. My husband had 30+ yrs experience hauling everything from swinging meat, grain, live cattle to cucumbers, but he never, ever took that end-dump trailer for granted, especially unloading in farm fields where the surface terrain can be impossible to read.

Most old school dump trailers I seen have them exhaust pipe for the under belly of the trailer. That be good for winter time keep the Material not able to stick to the bed of the dump body. Your tips and safety really helps for those that are starting out as dump truck drive for trailer or straight truck dump box. I would take it this apply for the straight dump trucks as well with the box being up in the air and airbags have to be dumped before doing anything. Wes jogging is a good work out every now and than as well need to stretch a little since you be sitting around.

Great advice. I actually wanted to mention in the video about something like this (granted a little different) but I wanted to keep it kind of simple. Sometimes if I’m uneven I’ll turn the truck a little bit at an angle from the trailer. It’s harder to flip the fifth wheel when the trailer is sitting on it on an angle.

Great video! One thing I would add to this is, which I’m sure you do with out thinking, everytime you get out of that truck and walk around, check and look at all your lights, tires and listen for air leaks. A flat tire can change the way that bed goes up and shift it one way or the other. With the auto inflators it might not be so obvious, but it’s a good habit to get into. Thanks for the videos!
@Wgrippin

It's a fee things I wish he expounded on but as a trucker myself I can see how some things are skipped or not explained since it's so much he has to think of to explain. Especially when a guy just knows his job, it's hard to explain sometimes because ya don't talk about it ya just do it. That’s why I hate running frame end dump with a 20 foot conveyor. you have the box up in the air for 1 to 2 hours

HEY MAN!!!! I just found this video and I live in chicago and I want a job like this but I cannot find a job I don’t even know if I have the correct term when I search for the job 😅 “dump end trailer jobs” look I hope there is some information or advice you can give me to land a job like yours and btw I just got my CDL

I've seen TOA ''tip over the axle ' , you called it a frameless trailer fall over sideways ,, the body was almost empty and the wind blew it over

First thing I do is make sure it’s level put the pto in and put the lever in the up position and shoot er straight up but I do drive a spring suspension truck and not a fancy air ride unit Lol I tell you what though when it gets real cold and the load freezes on one side of the wagon it’ll sure make the ol butt pinch a hole in the seat sometimes 🤣 You done a hell of a job explaining it for somebody that has no experience with a dump wagon doing good work with the videos and I’m just a little jealous of the KW. Don’t get me wrong I like my ol truck but it doesn’t look anything like that show truck

Thanks driver. I appreciate the support and watching the video.

@@Wgrippin appreciate you making videos again and seriously if I’d never ran an end dump before and had no idea what to do you really explained it very well. My truck and trailer both are spring ride so I don’t really gotta worry about the air bags I’ve got a triaxle MAC dump trailer now with the single leaf Rayco suspension under it and all my controls are in the cab I can raise my front and rear axles leaving the middle axle down and my tailgate just opens on the bottom it’s not the barndoor style I’d still like to drive a big show truck like that mine is definitely just a work truck and a few cowboys drove it before I did and it’s taking me a lot of time to get it lined back out but it’ll get there

@@joshsingleton8312 that rear lift axle actually sounds really handy.

@@Wgrippin it swivels pretty easy with it up it makes it real good for when you’re in a tight pit getting it maneuvered around to back under the loader
@Wgrippin
@Wgrippin 3 года назад
@@joshsingleton8312 I believe that. I like that idea. If it didn’t make things so heavy I think all 4 of my axles should raise. Down in Manhattan I could leave just the front one down and shorten the trailer right up.

Two mistakes always check your tires a low tire will bring you over I know from my own experience, tell Randy the length of the truck plus ten feet you when dumping never know when something will go wrong. Good job. NOW BACK TO WORK.

I hated hauling gypsum out of the power plants that shit would always freeze/stick in the winter even with a great liner. Talk about a long day of shoveling and cleaning that trailer out then go haul crushed glass/ ore/ soybeans etc I hauled it all in that trailer
@Wgrippin
@Wgrippin 3 года назад
Gypsum is tough because calcium makes it worse I think. That stuff can’t have any moisture or if it doesn’t freeze it’ll stick to the calcium 😳

@nickjones8702 3 года назад
@@Wgrippin yes gypsum is not problem In summer months but winter I hated it. But hey when slow you’ll haul anything to stay busy. But I went back to tank yanking life hope one day see you up there on the thruway or on 87. Peace a chicken grease keep the rubber down and the shiny side up 🤘

Do some of these trailers have vibrators on them? I'd think that few short bursts could help product slough off? The railroad uses portable pneumatic vibrators for hopper bottom cars.
@Wgrippin
@Wgrippin 2 года назад
Yes actually you can get vibrators. They’re great for steal trailers without liners. Helps a lot actually.

Curios as to why you used the barn door instead of the “traditional “ dump gate. Thanks
