I am a healthy skeptic, so obviously I was skeptical at first. But wow my kind of tutorial, and you even give extremely minor guidance as to what to do step by step without skipping over small things that you might know but people watching won’t and that’s what gets me extremely discouraged with other tutorials. I will be following and recommending to other in need or guidance in AI. Thank you so f…ing much. Truly thank you thank you thank you! You are by far the best teacher I’ve come across while trying to learn AI, and I’ve watched A LOT, like days worth of video. And over half over those I didn’t finish the design I was watching the tutorial for because there was one small thing they didn’t explain that got me hung up. Again thank you.

Awesome tutorial, thank you so much =D 3:16 > "M": use polygon tool> canvas: draw a big triangle> "L": use ellipse tool> canvas: hold "shift", draw a small circle> "V", canvas: move the circle to the center-bottom of the triangle> top panel: effect, distort & transform, transform> transform window: [V] preview, angle=360/15, copies=15, 9pitch=center-bottom> hit "Copy"

Actually you can do little better if you use a circle larger than the drawing instead of a small black one with the transform point in the center. This way you can add elements off center without breaking the effect and if the circle has no fill nor line it will erease itself when expanding. And keep in mind that sometimes applying a motif brush to a circle can be better (the shapes can distort but it is much more repeatable.

I have a problem. When I click, drag and hold shift in isolation to create a bigger circle, the whole group moves with it instead of creating a wider circle. What's that about?

maybe watch from 8:00-9:00 is this what's happening, it's shifting everything off? to scale a circle from the center out, hold shift+option and click and drag

Great tutorial... for anyone who doesn't know you can just type R and then hold down the Alt key to position your reference point exactly where you want it (i.e. on the centre point of the large circle). Much easier/quicker way to achieve the same offset rotation and copy.

But destructive rather than editable, that’s the main draw. What happens when you’re unsure of the number you want around the circle? Lots of undo and try again? What if you want your object to be slightly smaller later? Redo again? That’s the power here, it all remains editable.

good to see someone who appreciates what the effects panel can do for you......illustrator is packed with even more features (for example having some layers in preview mode whilst others are in keyline mode when tracing images)
