Hello! Today I did a more in depth "how to" for swapping duramax injector nozzles. This was for a set of LLY injectors, but it would be the same for LBZ and LMM trucks.

Quick question. You think if i have good balance rates but some white smoke, my solenoids are good, and i could get by with swapping nozzles?

Yes Dmax and 4l80! I want to manual valve body so bad and that's the only way I see doing it. Everyone's said they can't handle the low end torque but I dunno Randy just built one...

I'm pretty sure Randy built that for a gas vehicle if you read the comments on that Instagram post. If that's what you're talking about. But yeah, I know that's that they say, but I'm hoping my truck will be 4500-5000lbs by the time I get the 4L80E ready, so even though almost everything will have to be billet, it's still going to cost about the same as building the Allison from scratch. So we'll see what happens! They shift just like a 4R100 as far as clutch apply, and have awesome gear ratios. Plus you don't have to trick the TCM to get it to launch in second gear.. There's a lot of reasons why I think it's worth it to try!

@@MxJoel165 It was for Dave's, Dmax El Camino! obviously that's making nowhere near the power lol... Dont know about the 4r100 thing but yeah, I don't see the purpose for a 6 speed or even 5 really... IDK mine was built by Mike L and I still hate it. Guess i need some trans tuning. But a manual valve body 4l80 with trans brake sounds so much better

@@FOXCRF450RIDER Check out the clutch apply chart for an Allison and notice how it has to release one clutch and apply another to gear change. Then compare that to the clutch apply chart for a 4L80E! The 4l80e uses overrun sprags so the next gear can be commanded by simply applying the next clutch, but the previous clutch still holds. No shift overlap. BUT the Allison's design, avoiding roller sprags is inherently stronger. And the parts are massive and way stronger in stock form. ha

@@MxJoel165 That's a good point. Too much pwm bullshit needed for Ms. Allison. I hate high maintenance chicks. Oh did I mention how annoying the learning is? Like fuck I just want to send it and not be scared if I put it in race tune, to wreck a street car, that the trans is gonna flare or upshift to quick or something. Defueling between shifts sounds cool sometimes 🤷‍♂️

It could just be me and cause I’m not doing this, but why doesn’t everyone just change Nozzles instead of buying new ones??

As your injectors wear, the balance rates get larger as the ECM has to compensate for slight changes in flow from each injector to the next. Larger nozzles with extenuate that difference in flow. The balance rates may be able to make it idle smoothly, however at WOT, the ECM isn't balancing the flow rate; it just holds the injector open for as long as it's supposed to. Uneven injection is hard on the cylinder that may be getting more fuel than it's supposed to, but it's also hard on crankshafts to see an uneven force if one hole is making more power than the others. There's a lot of math to tell exactly how much power it takes to cause a damaging effect, but that's the idea. Here, we knew that the injectors weren't requiring a lot of ECM compensation, so we can assume they're flowing close to the same. 30% more shouldn't be enough to hurt anything, but imagine the same injectors with 200% nozzles, now balancing is more critical because the overall flow is effected by a larger percentage and difference in the set by quite a bit more. Make sense?

I know it depends on starting balance, buy how big a nozzle would you recommend before getting into the must balance range 60's, 75's, 100's?

@@cesarlaso356 I’ve heard of people throwing on 150-200% nozzles and running just fine on lower mile bodies. But 30%-45% is as large as DDP (who made these nozzles) likes to do without a full balance after. And even then it would still technically be a good idea or the RIGHT way to do it. But I don’t blame anyone for trying to save some money on these parts. Ha
