Dying cooked spaghetti for sensory bins and toddler activities is easy, and quick if you already have left over noodles that need using up!
What you need:
• Cooked spaghetti noodles
• Gel food colour
• A Ziplock bag
• Strainer/Colandar
How To:
1. Cook the noodles as you normally would or if using leftover noodles thoroughly wet the noodles to help the colour slide around.
2. Add wet noodles to a ziplock bag
3. Add a few drops of food colour to bag.
4. Seal bag well, and shake and massage the noodles in the bag so that the colour distributes well.
5. Leave noodles in bag and colour to set for 15-20 minutes (leave darker colours to set a little longer 20-30 minutes)
6. Dump noodles in colander and rinse very well. Rinsing well is how to avoid stained hands but if little hands do have some colour transfer it will wash away easily with soap and water.
7. Add noodles to sensory bin and present with toys and tools.
Tip: If the play goes on for so long that the noodles begin get dry or tacky just add a little water either by spraying some on to the noodles, or just pouring some in to the bin and mixing it around.

Does the colour transfer onto hands when the kids are playing with it?

It depends on if you rinse the spaghetti well enough. In general we haven't found it much of a problem and any colour transfer rinses off easily with soap and water.
