As an avid follower of you (and also your age ;) I LOVE the tutorials and am especially grateful for your expression of realism on how to embrace our authentic selves. Forget perfectionism ; WE ARE ENOUGH! As a hospice nurse I've learned from my dying patients just how much they regret not loving themselves more. So right on track with this great video I'm vowing to love myself more- including my imperfect body! Keep on keeping on! You're an inspiration.
With your physical beauty and charisma, your high profile job and lifestyle you would have every reason to be arrogant, aloof and patronising but you come across as the exact opposite: kind, witty, funny, warm, sensitive and so much more! Sure, I love your beauty tips but I always secretly hope that you will leave a few words of wisdom somewhere in between , and you do! You are a big inspiration to me - on many levels. Thank you!
sophie auert; i get all that you're saying. but, why do you need others to motivate and inspire you. more and more these days. people are becoming dependent on others and not themselves. PLEASE DON'T GET MAD, its just my opinion. MY EXCUSE; I am having a bad day....JUST KIDDING.
I just love your tutorials. I just lost my husband and then lost my mom. Your videos have given me help with trying to help myself feel a little better and look good too. Not dazzling but learning and hoping for to find me. I was married when I was a teenager after 42 years trying get me taken care. To be special. Thank you so much.
I absolutely adore you!!!! I wish I was in the same place with how I look, so to speak. I will be 44 in a couple of weeks and I am no where near loving myself. You are an inspiration! Thank you for what you do!!
Love your videos! The moment I watched the intro in one of the random videos I clicked on my suggestions page, I knew you were a TV presenter. It's the way you talk that gives it away immediately. And I looove it! Very informative content and charming personality.
Dominque, you are so authentic, so real, so approachable. I really appreciate your honesty about your struggles, things that you have overcome, and especially the perspective that you are willing to share with us. It's such an encouragement to me - thank you!
Dominique, I just recently found you on RU-vid; and, I want to tell you that you are such a great blessing! You are so real and so genuine, and, so very interesting! Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your knowledge with us. You are truly an inspiration!! God bless you!
I don't even know how I found you a few days ago but I have to tell you that I'm loving you and your videos. This particular video touched me because of your comment on perfectionism, something that I've struggled with all my life. At 64 I'm finally accepting and loving myself just as I am (better late than never, right?) and oh my, what a great feeling it is. Anyway Dominique, I have a feeling that I will be watching and enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing.
I took over doing both my lowlights and highlights about 3 years ago and I have saved so much money. I also cut my hair now and do my own nails. My roots are all gray on top, I'm 54 and I'm coloring my roots almost every 4 weeks, so its better to do it myself. Funny you mentioned the tin foil on the antenna because I was helping my Mom who is 82 and looks younger with her weather radio (live in north of Dallas) the antenna was up but reception not that good. My Mom put foil on the end and it helped the reception! lol! Happy New Year to you and thanks for the video on your lowlights.
kathy price I just came across this channel and love her!! I’m 44 & my gray hair is far more than just a few hairs here and there. I’m trying to minimize my life but I’m not ready to let the gray take over!! I’m curious how you do your coloring and cutting??
normally I would have saved this in my "hair" section but I instead chose to save this in my "centeredness and balance" section, because I think your message on perfectionism is a very important one in nurturing and loving ourselves. Life is much more full of joy and happiness when we learn that mistakes are part of excellence and success! Thanks, J.
Amazingly beautiful inside and out! Thank you for your constant inspiration to me and many others, probably more than you'll ever know. Your personal stories are always encouraging and having just reached 50 (!!!) I gave up those "gotta be perfect and must have makeup" requirements. I realize now how liberating it is to have throw those silly thoughts out the window! Your positive attitude is very contagious!! :-)
Hi! I am a few weeks shy of being 65. Yikes! That seemed to sneak up. Being 2 years into breast cancer remission I am indeed blessed and very comfortable in my own skin and proud of my decision to have a bilateral with no reconstruction. What I owe you a THANK YOU for is bringing personal beauty back into my life. Some make-up tips, fantastic hair products and positive support have "kicked it up a notch". My husband hasn't commented on the skin or hair specifically however, being 6 years younger...he has said, you have the spark of being 10 years younger than me! I am bold, blessed and glad to have found you.
I don't know how you got away with this with your hair stylist. I'm so afraid I will mess it up. But yours looks amazing. Thank you for this video. I may at some point be as bold as you!
Dominique, how does one even begin to complement you in all the area's of you we admire? I found your short hair bob styled 4 ways this past summer and began watching and following you. I personally love short hair, it suits me best, but I dread trying unsuccessfully to style it. You have given so much insight there. Then to move on to correct ways of applying make up to compliment and high light features while concealing aged complexions as my own. You have such a personality and charisma about yourself that comes across as someone so easy to talk to and relate. (Just one of the girlfriends hanging out in the bathroom together)! I love that about your videos!!! Then there is in every video I've seen of yours an eliminate of self exposer, allowing your viewers to connect with you more personally, and you make us feel as if we were your family/friends. In this particular episode you share your dreams and goals, realizations to reality, and overcoming. I wanted to hug you and say " me too my sister"! Where my dream was just to be a proud wife and mother, I deal with perfectionism or if you will, OCD. I tired so hard to implant my ideas and views of correct on my children, tried to retain my husband (which we all know retaining is a figment of the imagination), and I kept a house in order at all times (fussing, yelling, fits of manic enrage when anything was put or left out of place), all while representing a June Clever at the kids school at every field trip, holiday party or special occasion I was always asked to head up for the teachers. Truth is, life is chaotic and out of control! There just isn't going to be perfection because it's a myth. Not that we should lay down our guns, but in or efforts realize that every cloud is different. We don't all have to be the same. Acceptance that the dark brown towel has been placed with a burgundy one is ok. It made it to the same closet which is goal. Those are just my own inner demons. Key is acceptance and coping with yourselves and then allowing others to be imperfectly perfect also. I do also want to mention on your self awaking moment.... girlfriend!.... You are near flawlessly beautiful! I truly believe we all are whether some need assistance showcasing our features whether nude or with makeup. I know the right cut for our facial shape is key, and so on. But your unmade face is an artists most desirable pallet! And you are the best darn artist I've seen! I hope you continue to find happiness in making your videos and sharing yourself with us because you've made such an impact on atleast me! Side note: when I win the lottery big will you please design my dream bathroom and vanity dressing table? Lol! The lighting, mirrors, access to tools are a girlfriends must haves! Go boldly Dominique, and God bless you sweetheart!
Dominique... you are simply the best and my most favorite beauty guru here on you tube...as countless other previous comments have expressed, I agree 100 percent how beautiful, classy and lovely you are! Funny, just got home from salon color and forking out a lot of money for it.... thinking I’m going to return to again doing my own color for awhile .....and then I saw this video ! You inspire me in so many ways. Best part of going for color today was my stylist mentioned that I reminded her of “some lady on u-tube “. Couldn’t imagine who she’d pull up on her phone.... and Thanks be to God.....it was a picture you! Yay. Nicest compliment ever! I don’t see it but I’m grateful for her kind words to me, as she thinks you’re gorgeous. Thank you for you and your beauty outside, and more importantly, your inside lovely spirit! God bless you Always! Peace and joy
Thank you for this video!! It spoke to me! We are the same age and I too, thought exactly like you....a plan, so perfection oriented......SO, thank you for your honest and raw advice on being yourself!!!
Jeeze, I haven’t seen anyone with this many comments. I want to thank you for sharing the drooling task of keeping up highlights. And another reason I wish to thank you is: I use to do the three tones in my hair also and decided to try growing out my natural color, only because it is a task that takes behavioral techniques. Long story short..... watching someone else do their own hair has inspired me to be strong and try again. I was so damned if I do, and damned if I don’t before watching your illustration. Thanks again! 💐
I just LOVE your hair! The cut is amazing and the color is stunning. My next haircut I might go up to a shorter bob, instead of my lob right now. Thanks for your videos, I appreciate them as they are girl next door beauty, not these other videos where girls put on layers and layers of makeup. I feel as you get older, less is more.
Thank you for sharing the Prime book and your story. So encouraging! Thank you for being transparent. I too was divorced with three children and tried to be perfect but perfection doesn't exist here ,on earth anyway. I also have a blended family of six with three boys and three girls. Have really enjoyed all your fun videos.Getting my hair cut tomorrow!
i love the way u project yourself .You inspired many women like.me im 60 yrs old ive learned many things from you .Continue to share the beauty of being aging .
So nice to see a successful, beautiful woman with humility and grace. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your tips and tricks. It is very much appreciated.
I am watching this a year later, as well. Just found your channel and I have been watching your videos all night. This one really hit home. I love your tutorials, but your honesty and humility are what really make you unique. We all have challenges in our life, and it's nice to know we aren't alone. Thank you for sharing. God Bless.
I love your videos on improving looks with make-up. It has helped me to remind me of the contouring I use to do. I also color my hair and have cut my own off and on for many years. I've worn makeup since I was about 13 yrs. old and colored my own hair from about the age of 15. Thinking back I can't believe my mom as strict as she was, didn't even scold me. But then again I also pierced my own ears by the time I was 15. I later pierced them so I could wear 2 earrings in each ear. She couldn't believe I did it the first time. I think that being a perfectionist is taught to a person when they are very young and growing up. I always was until about 10 years ago. I got tired of always being busy doing things that I got tired of doing and never time for the things I really wanted to do. So, I learned how to be satisfied with my surroundings the way they are and my life is just as happy and maybe even happier because I am doing more of what I want instead of doing what I always thought I should do first then for me later. I also got rid of a 36 year - pain in my life a joke of a husband. That is why I got so much happier. I love watching your videos and I hope you continue doing so for many years. It's nice to see you doing all of this with a smile on your face. So many people do these self- help videos and they don't seem to enjoy themselves. Thank you again.
What a fantastic role model you are! You are a true beauty as we can all see beauty radiates from the inside out. No one is perfect and we all can only attempt to be the best versions of ourselves.
Thank you for your "prime" perspective. Pity it takes us so long to be comfortable with ourselves. Youth is wasted on the young! I'm turning 50 this year and feeling all the more confident for it. Yes I'm blessed. Enjoying your channel immensely.x
I do both highlights and low lights at home...I hate going to the salon. My hair is fine and they always put too many highlights in no matter how much I protest! I like my highlights random. I do my base and low lights too (and at 51 am now very grey sadly) without the technicolour dream!
I just adore you! Your personality, beauty (Within as well as outer beauty) are what make you a truly gorgeous lady! I love that you are very transparently honest. I admire that, especially living in Los Angeles, where many people are not like you. I have learned so much from your videos, and I truly Thank you!
You can really see the difference . You re right in what you say , it gives so much more depth and dimension , just with that little " hit" of darker colour amongst the highlights . Good job ! .
The only thing I hate about coloring my hair at home is the mess. Dye seems to drip, even if I wear an apron. I get a slightly lighter shade than my natural color and dye my dark hair. The grays in my hair pick up the lighter shade and that acts as my highlight.
+Marla Robinson Me too. Thankfully my mother found a way to get the dye stains off the wood floor the last time she came out. No matter how many towels... The smell and the mess is almost a deal breaker but for the conditioner. It's the only time my hair feels silky. While I pull strands of breakage off under the shower. Why is it that it's always the healthy looking hair that breaks off? The over-processed bits hang on for dear life! I do like how my grays become highlights though. Now there are so many I'm nearly blonde. LOL! Eventually I can switch to platinum and then after that stop coloring altogether because I'll already be platinum. I've got a plan...
You're truly a beautiful woman inside and outside!! I love that you're my age and you have inspired me greatly! Thank you for your humbleness and realness!!! ❤️
Wow Dominique, that was powerful, I felt every word....profoundly. You are the biggest inspiration I have ever felt from a woman in my entire life and on matters that are just so very fundamental and simple. You're special. Your message is to love and enhance what you've got, not to strive for unattainable ideological perfection, a preconception designed only to torment the soul. I love the fact that your abundant inner beauty wants to share hints and tips on how you enhance your natural external beauty with everyone whilst keeping it real. I find your ethos very moving and cathartic. Thank you for inadvertently helping me to move forward by motivating me to make some changes, starting with my visit to the hair salon tomorrow
OMG. I love your channel. I have learned so much. You are my inspiration, I have recently lost 147 pounds with weight lose surgery. I find myself looking forward to make up and hair again. I have found my beauty again with your help. Thank you
Many Greetings from Germany. I am so glad that I found your you tube channel by surprise. I am watching all of your videos now everyday one after the other. You are so inspiring to me. And while watching you and listening to you I can practise my englisch with you. Thank you so very much for sharing so many good things with us. I send you so many warm greetings and hugs here from Germany from the bottom of my heart. Annette
I stumbled upon your videos yesterday and am NOW ADDICTED! I'm enjoying everything you're sharing and would like more wardrobe segments. Perhaps building your "staple" pieces & blending with trendy...business casual that stills shows you're to be taken seriously. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Hi there from India found you last week, since then whenever I get a chance I have been reading and watching you everywhere.....you are beautiful and so positive....
Thank you so much for the response, I love you and your videos, your beauty shines from your heart, please continue sharing your life, style and ideas with us..
Love watching your videos. Little tip: If you fold down the top of your tin foil (little 1/4 inch fold), then place your tail comb in the fold, it makes it much easier to place the foil in the hairline, then withdraw the tail comb. Dominique can you share what colour lipstick are you wearing - love it! Most 'nudes' look too washed out on my skin tone but this one looks perfect. Thanks for being so honest and so real. The book looks amazing.
I just love this Lady.. I now want chestnut brown hair lol.. Unreal, how just a few low lights made such a big difference.. Always inspired by you Dominique. x
OMG... your highlights came out soooo goood ! I would not even think to correct this at home, good video. I applaud you for the no makeup. I have been going out without makeup occasionally for about 2 years now and I just love it. At first, you are a little uncomfortable but then after awhile you get used to it and realize.... who really cares.... its very freeing. Thank you for sharing your story, its always nice to know other women think what you are thinking... p.s. you are so pretty without makeup, you can probably go anywhere without it.
So cute!! What confidence you have! I really like your look around 8:18 with the foil in your face. Great work and yes, saving a trip to the Salon really helps. Thanks.
LOVE this video! I had no idea when I began watching that I would see anything other than "How To Color Your Hair At Home"! Dominique, you are such a beautiful and inspiring women! I am so glad that I found your videos not so long ago!
"Thank You" for simply being yourself and allowing us into your life. You give me courage to just play and find what looks good on myself. However the jewel is that you also encourage women to take it to another level; The Best part is going beyond looks and find what simple makes each of us feel good about being a woman as we age. God Bless You because that is what You shared with me - A Blessing. As a veteran i tend to be a tomboy but that doesn't age well. lol Your playful and giving personality resonated as Beauty to me and i instantly realized that i can age gracefully if i stop judging myself and just enjoy being a woman. Thank You - you changed my life.
Hi there! I am a new subscriber to your channel from right here in Houston! I only watch Channel 2 and you and Bill have always been a favorite of mine. I love you Dominique! Your real talk during color is adorable and too cute. I wish I could tell my younger self that you don't have to be perfect just be the best version of yourself. Here's to a beautiful 40+! :)
Dominic, thank you for sharing your journey of finding perfection from the imperfections we have in our lives. I struggle with even running to the grocery store without my makeup or hair done, for fear I will run into someone that knows me. As I have aged (now 61) and the changes that come with growing older in appearance. Seems to require a lot more prep time than it use too! I have suggested your UTube page to many other women that have felt like we needed guidance through products to application of products that is a more mature approach to keeping our beauty up. Thanks again and will be watching for any tutorials to come. God Bless!
What a lovely personality you have along with being gorgeous, too. I just "found" you and you are a delight to watch - you truly have charisma and appear to be soooo down to earth. Wish you were a newscaster here in San Diego. I'm going to try your hair method here on my senior's head and we shall see! Thank you.
I cannot wait to get my hands on this book!! I loved hearing about your article and I want to read it in its entirety. I wore a lot of makeup in high school and college (who didn't in the 80s LOL), and then got away from it for several years. Not that makeup defines us, but it was more than that, it was a bit like "letting go" of pampering myself. I was just doing what had to be done to get ready in the morning and still look professional enough for work. After I was promoted at work, and especially after I turned 40, I've really been enjoying getting back into makeup and hair, and it's a lot more fun now that there are RU-vid tutorials to assist in almost every aspect, and much better ways of learning about the best products. Thank you for sharing your stories --- VERY inspirational! I love your channel :-)
Found your videos this week, love them and your hair. I gave up on my bob after we moved around a lot and the haircut was hard to maintain I'm having my hair cut off this week to go back to bob,. Thanks for the inspiration and reminder of how great they make you look.
Such a great video. Perfection is a recipe for failure. Always try and do your best, and you will be a true winner. So happy for you that you have overcome your need for perfection. Makes you so much more personal, and able to connect with others such as myself. BTW, you hair turned out fabulous.
Hello there, just found your channel on you tube . First of all awesome hair cut!!!! Second, you are an inspiration... I try so hard to be a good mom and wife. Sometimes feeling lost in all of my trying. Accepting our imperfections or failures is tough.... But knowing that its acceptable ..... Thank you !!!!! God bless.
Great video Dominique!! Thank you for tips and tricks that we can use at home!! I struggle with never being good enough. Thank you for helping me to realize that being authentic and accepting of myself is what is most important. Thank you for always being so positive, real and beautiful inside and out!
You look gorgeous as always. This video made me remember the time I decided to go from naturally blonde to platinum. My colorist was all excited to try this new product but for some reason it didn't process well because it turned my hair yellow. Think downy chicken yellow. I paid, went home, cried and called a friend who is a hairdresser and once he stopped laughing he tried to tone down the yellow by applying gray color which unfortunately made my damaged porous ends bright blue. I was supposed to be the Maid of Honor at my cousin's wedding the following day but she refused to let me look like that so she cut off all the blue (she is also a hairdresser btw) and this is how I got what probably was the first asymmetrical bob in Sweden. I'm such a hipster 😀
WOW! Congrats on being included in the book! You and Brene! (Another Texas girl I adore and love) Stunning! Love the tips on the home hair care as well.
Oh wow thank you for sharing about your struggle-you're so sweet and beautiful! I can definitely relate :) & I hope there are many others who also can relate! Also what a GREAT video-very helpful tutorial! You have NO IDEA how much your hair videos have helped me!!
My natural light blonde hair always had natural multi colors of lighter and darker blonde. In the summer sun, the two front strips always turned white. Now, at 61, white has come in,(which I love), along with the moreso slopwater grey. I used to color it all and got great natural highlights, along with lots of compliments. Now, I section off the white (the color moves off the white quickly) and do the grey roots over the scalp, with a rat tail paintbrush, front to back, painting the part then sectioning it off all the way across the head. Anything left in the bowl goes to the ends, but sometimes not, so as not to over process the ends. The grey is stubborn so it's 45 minute wait time. When it gets down to 30 minutes that's when I add the extra color to the ends, IF and when I do. I like to get my hair cut before I color it. Dead ends are gone and it looks fresh and bouncy. At 61 yrs, I would let my hair be if it were all white - i keep it shoulder length - but the grey is unwelcome. I like this tutorial and may try this on technique during those last 30 minutes. Thankz so much❣ You gave a great lesson and you're so pretty
Discovered your Videos this morning Love ! Wonderful tips . My hair is shorter now and my bangs are finally growing out from the stylist cutting them abit short . I used the Blow-drying the bangs tip this morning which helped them smooth down to the side . Thanks again Donna
Great video ; I have been colouring my hair for over 30 years , but always have gone to Salon for highlights ; blond and low lights ..........none I will try low lights on my own . Thanks again for amazing instructions and keep them coming .
Hi Dominique, Once again I am blown away by your tips and tricks! Thank you for showing how you can do lowlights with box hair color! I can't wait to try it! I was wondering if you could share which shampoos and conditioners are your favorite and do you use a clarifying shampoo?
