I am in love with your experiments! Because of your methodical approach, I feel like I can really understand the different ways the various dyes can be shifted. The results are outstanding! I am inspired.
Beautiful, beautiful! You are a woman after my own heart. I am no longer able to do what you are doing, but I used to go all out as you have in your quest to find all the varients of whatever you are delving into. You satisfy all of my understanding by the work you put into your videos. I simply adore them. They are so informative and leave nothing else to explore. Well done!!!
Seems we are all in love with your thought process of these dying experiments. I'm a tree hugger and collector of natural materials, there for I am thoroughly impressed by your dedication to this project. 💐🍂🌿🍁
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. What can I say, I love plants, trees and animals. I wish more people do. Perhaps we would live in a better world then ❤️😊
All I can say is wow, wow, wow! I loved this video. Seeing each result was just my cup of tea. Every piece of paper and fabric is gorgeous. I am viewing this 10 months after it posted. I hope I can locate the videos where you used some of them. Thanks so much for sharing!
Wow! You never leave any stone unturned! You're a mad plant dying scientist 😂 You're giving me ideas ! I have some of those leaves where i live here in USA! I have a bunch dried already! Im gonna try thst idea! Ive always wanted to learn how to eco dye! Thanks for this! 😊
You're very welcome! Glad you found it useful. I hope your experiments turn great. It started snowing here this morning and no more leaves to pick. I think it's for the best, because I could go mad with all that experimenting 🤣🤣🤣
Exceptional video! Love how you share your fantastic experiments and that they are so very useful for paper and fabric crafters! Blessings from Minnesota, USA!
Awesome!! I’d never think of utilizing quite dead leaves for anything. You are a ready science experimenter or teacher -- thorough, methodical, extremely organized and clear. Your videos should be taken as models for demonstrating in classes and video tutorials. Oak is my favorite and it grows where I live. Totally repeating it all myself. Including drying experimental papers on large white sketchbook papers to get stains there as well for future usage. I used plastic garbage bags for drying stained papers but that is a waste if I can have secondary effect on the bottom layer. 25:35 Special thanks for the tip about freezing the dies in plastic bottles. I tend to underutilize my freezer in the basement and this suggestion saves that problem as well as problem of spoiled dies (when I don’t have time to go through them all in time). 26:40. Adding dies to watercolor brush pen set is another super useful tip. Love your collection of died gauzes. 37:25 Skeleton leaves? Please share the results, really interesting! Thanks a million for all you do!
Love your progress videos. So fun to watch the process and you are so organized and explain everything so clearly. The results are amazing!!! The variety! Just beautiful! Thank you so much for taking us along on the experiment and your play time.💕
Awesome experiment. Really love the the papers and cloth when you added the iron. That Grey is stunning, and the marks it left on the paper is amazing! ❤
What an awesome video. I just love it! Tell your husband thank you for helping you with the containers. I love all of the earth tones and how they reacted to other mordants. Very organized video and you have the sweetest voice of any one I know and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. ❤️ ❤❤
Aww, Deborah, thank you so much! ❤️Glad you enjoyed the experiment. I told my husband that my audience thanked him for the help 😊. I love your comments and I appreciate you taking time to write them ❤️
Love that you do so many experiments and share the process with us 😘 and when you ask which one is my fav than I couldn't say. They are all just amazing... The first three I would like a little bit more 😊 lemon, walnut and hazelnut
I'm glad you liked it! I'm going to use those papers in my new autumn journals that I'm trying to complete before the snow starts falling. If it does, I'm afraid I'm going to lose interest in them 🤣🤣🤣
I tried this with chestnut leaves in the beginning of October and these give a really lovely warm brown colour😊 and by adding rust water the dye turned almost black 😊 Thank you very much for sharing your process and experiments, I really love your videos ❤
I did the same with really red autumn leaves and cooked them for an hour . The water took all the color from the leaves and turned into a bright brilliant vibrant red . When I used it to color textile and paper they turned out green and a bit brown/ red . Only a smal portion became pinkish 🤗
Love your thorough scientific approach to making and testing dyes. So useful, too. Wouldn’t want to miss one of your tutorials. I live in an apartment with limited space to do this so your experiments are very helpful. Since you are using three sheets of paper in each color, you could leave them for different lengths of time to compare the effects.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you found it useful. I've been collecting these test papers for some time. Love checking them out occasionally. I made an album, these are going there for sure. Would be interesting to do this next year and compare the results with this batch 😊
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I've been experimenting with your recipes this week. I have no leaves left...although maybe I have some at my parents. I wonder how the dies will work when using as water for my watercolors. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Oh my gosh! Just love how they all turned out. I may go outside and see what leaves are still around, over the next couple of days. 😊 I wonder if you've ever heard of adding a bit of rubbing alcohol to the dye so it doesn't get mold. I heard someone say they add it to coffee to prevent molding, but only to coffee they're not using right away. So I add a little to my spray bottle for coffee. It doesn't change the color and I never have issues with it or mold in the spray bottle after it sits for a couple months of non use. I wouldn't have room in my freezer currently to freeze the dyes, so was thinking I could add a bit of alcohol, just in case? Any thoughts?? One of my sisters, who doesn't do journals but collects stuff for me, lol, said she watched a video where he used ground leaves after making dye, added lint from the dryer and made paper. I have tried using lint with newspaper, just tiny amounts of lint as it doesn't blend well in the blender, but it did work. I have Oak, Maple, Apple and Tulip trees, my dad has black walnut trees, most leaves are gone at this point, but again, will see what's still out there and there's always next year. So next step, make my dye, find the video on skeleton leaves, and try paper from leaves and lint, lol. Thanks so much for the great video and doing all the experimenting/work for us, you're so inspiring!! 💜💜💜
You're so welcome! Thank you so much for watching and for your nice comment. I hope you find some leaves to try. Here is pretty much too late, it started snowing this morning. I haven't used alcohol in any of my dyes, not sure if it would help against mold. Some food preservatives might ( for pickled foods). I use those in my homemade gelli plate and it works great. Didn't go moldy for over a year. I thought of trying to make paper with leaves after making dyes. Still have them in water. I might mix with regular paper scraps or book pages. It worked well when I tried with flower petals, so maybe it would work with leaves, too. Oh, so many things to try... 😊❤️
Thank you! I tried all of these papers with mordants, too. I show them towards the end of the video. Papers I dyed with other dyes without mordants, didn't fade after 2 years. For example; coffee, tea, onion skin, grape, avocado and so on. I think these will be the same. I guess I'll know for sure after some time passes 😊❤️
Thank you for the test run! ❤ I wish I could be so punctual, as you are, with my experiments, I have a hard time remembering what I used to make something 😅 Especially when I test light fastnes and I don't have the label, so I've forgot it completely or just lost it at some point. 😂 Do you have a good method to test the light fastness? I might need one 😂
You're so welcome! I don't really have a method for light fastness. 😊 I dye papers mostly and they are kept inside of the journal, away from sun. I would leave in direct sunlight perhaps if I wanted to be sure. ❤️
I used 80gsm copy paper and I always place it in cold dye. If yours is falling apart easily maybe try with heavier paper. I would also try a different brand, not all papers are the same. 😊❤️
Thank you for watching. When I edit the videos, I bump up the sound volume to the max, can't be any louder. Perhaps it's turned down on your device. The labels are quite large, unless you watch from your phone, it might be hard to see. You can always use zoom in function to see better 😊
