I didn’t go to school I just took the test after I read the book,my aunt had the book which was free and I took the test in nyc, I have had my certification since 2016. I volunteered to get my 400 hrs, it was a fast process for me. I’m not in the field anymore but I try to keep my certification up.
In New Jersey you cannot be hired unless you have your certification or at least a provisional certification which means you passed the test but don't have your hours yet. But the HSPA will let you submit creditable hours from other similar employment that would qualify you towards your 400 hours. I worked 14 years as a dental assistant with 1 and a half years in periodontal surgery instrument processing. That could count as hands on. I'm going to apply to see if the experience counts and if so I can than study, pass the test and be certified right on. I'm hoping this works out for me since they have dental as an option.
I am starting class in NYC this month, community college will be from February 2023 to July 2023, Saturday class only. Thank you for this video it gave me a clear insight ❤
Omg me too. I'm a cna for 10 months and hate it and was looking for something else. I just did an interview for the VA hospital for this position, but they will train me for it. I can't wait
Thank you so much for your video. I’m Virginia too, Norfolk. I just received the books. Chapter 1, finished. My head is already heavy 😂 I just find a job with one year to be certified also but I don’t know if they will take me with zeroooo experience. I’m a little bit afraid to apply.
I’m interested in becoming an SPT I live in Florida. However how do I get the 400 hrs ? Will they hire after I get certified with no hands on experience?
Can you please tell us what is the sterile processing 2 and 3 and what other training levels and certificates do you have to have for those? What are your options if you don't want to work in a hospital but just want to deal with a dermatology or a private doctor or dental offices?
How do you get certified withiut going to school. You study for the exam. Pass the exam and then what? How come youre not certified after you pass exam?
Yes I am certified without going to school . I was hired and I gained my experience and 400 hours through the job . For a whole year I studied for the exam while I worked and sat for the exam. After you pass your exam if you have the 400 hours already you get your certification .
hi Brith I'm from ph but I'm about to go in LA i've heard there is a training center something?? somewhere in LA for people who didn't study/graduate at SPT school and after the training they're able to work as an SPT. I really don't have any experience or knowledge about sterile processing technician but I'm really holding to it
For me it was easy . I feel that I applied at the right time. Some hospitals are picking with who they hire because the job is literally like a family and they have to make sure who they hire fit in and able to do the job. I don’t feel that it is hard if you are eager to learn. 6 months after I started I became lead technician with no certification. Ask so many questions and learn much as possible
Do you have to retake the test every time you renew? And do you have to renew every year? Thank you so much for this video I needed this, I’m so scared to take this test lol. ❤
No but you do have to get earn 12 or 14 credits to renew . So you gotta find ways to get your ceu. I watched like 14 podcasts and got mines on beyond clean.com
@@BRITHEDIVA_as of 2/17 I got hired on with a hospital as a tech and all I need was a HS but having some college hours or even a degree really looks good on your resume. Good luck
I’m not going to discuss how much i make . I have coworkers on my channel and as a team leader that is confidential because I do not want others comparing my pay to my employer thanks . Call to different companies and ask them there starting pay with and without experience and that will tell you the pay rate for the job . I hope this helps
Not really, you will gradually learn them by dealing with them on a daily basis, they don't ask about instrumentation on the exam, just the process of how the spd is ran😊
It’s 150 questions on the test so it’s basically questions from each portion but It’s best to know every question because you will never know what will be on the test
I am so glad that I came across your page. I got hired 2/17/23 and I love it. Never worked in the health care field. I have a business degree in marketing so this is a whole new world for me. I am looking to get certified so I can travel with this job. Thanks for the video
This field is new to me as well. I was a preschool teacher for 10 years. I start my new job next week. I agree the book is the key to passing the exam. Thanks for the video. ❤
Hey are you certified yet? I know from experience they are looking to someone who is positive a hard worker and someone who will fit right along with the rest of employees . Be warm and open . Do some research about every area in the department and what it entails . Be confident and hopefully it goes well . If you not certified please inform them how Eager you are to study and receive your certification. Also familiarize yourself with the dirty and clean elevators
I’m currently in school as a Medical Assistant, but I’ve also been looking into medical supply technician or sterile processing tech with my CMA. Do you think that I can work as a med supply tech with just being a certified medical assistant or is that a whole other type of schooling. I’ve been taught about sterilization, desensitization, etc so will that still count.
Hi! Love your videos! I work as a Phlebotomist in a hospital and have been thinking of taking a Sterile processing course and possibly changing careers. Is there a lot of heavy lifting in this career? As a phlebotomist, always bending to draw blood is starting to take a toll on my back. Not sure if this is the right career move, please let me know your opinion, Thanks!
Hey sterile processing is very demanding on your body . You will be doing a lot of bending and lifting up to 50 pounds . I would suggest to do it if you have issues with your back because working in the Decontamination area can be a lot
I hv a degree as well in CJ tho. Hard getting into that field. Thkg about switching. Always looked into sterilization tech. Time to move forward. Thanks for this video. Very informative.
Yes I felt bad not working in my field that I went too school for but you have to do what makes you happy . I was easily burnt out in the social work field
Hi great video is anyone here from NY IF so do you mind saying where did you go to do the 400 hrs Volunteer, which facility if anyone in NY within the 5 Boroughs would know .TY
So Is it possible to get a sterile processing tech job without getting certified and school 1st or try to get certified without going to school or go to school then get certified
I'm going to school right now for my sterile processing the diploma but I was hired at the hospital to start before I graduated so I'm really excited and I don't know anything yet but I guess I learned along the way it's three and a half months of training any advice about my first day anyone I start Tuesday
Hi I’m trying to get into this field but i was trying to debate between doing the course online or just going to a community college where I have to do clinical hours because online doesn’t mention hours for the program. So idk what to choose
Yes college sometimes will find placement for you to do the hours ! In my state I didn’t have to have to be certified to get a job. I gained my hours from working and then sat for the test . So every state is different .
Yea you can get hired it depends on what state you are in . Some places will hire without certification . You can just study the book and sit for certification . I was hired before I got my certification and study to take the test but the hands on experience helped so much
So I need to go to school or I don’t ? Because I watched some vids that say I need to just to get the certificate and then go take the exam I’m not really a school girl lol
I did not go to school . I studied the book and sat for my exam . It was easier for me because I was working and I got my 400 hours so once I passed they immediately sent out my certification . You do not need to go to school that is not required just study the information
Thank you! I am going to order that work book today! I have a psychology degree with no idea what to do with it. My brother is in this line of work and told me to go for this. Do you know if we have to order the cis (instrument resource book) workbook as well? There is even another book for endoscopes or are the endoscopes covered in that book you have?
Best of luck. Yes there is now a book for endoscopes and a test. If you wish to just go into that field. The CSPD text book, workbook, get first. You will learn your instruments as you go. I'm retired from CSPD. Enjoy
Hey hun thanks I’m glad they are inspiring Below is the book to the new editions of the book . I hope this helps . hspa.users.membersuite.com/shop/store/browse
damn I wished I was hired on first then proceed on to achieve my certification while working for the company instead. i can't see myself doing all that and then having to work a side job just trying to make it on a rising living cost. that's just not a proactive approach to me. It's just too many distraction for me. I felt like I wouldn't be able to do a good job on the main purpose of it and also not a guaranteed to get hired on getting paid the big bucks after you get your certification. It's like investing your hard earn money into it and being told you ain't making shiet back. it's a slap in the face.
You explained this so well, and made me more comfortable with going forward, since my age is over 45. Oh, are the tools in those books, since you need to identify those? Thank you, new subscriber.
I have my interview for sterile processing tomorrow and they said that they’re going to put me through the schooling to get my sterile processing degree and I get a dollar more after I get my certification
Yes the work book have the questions and the manual have the reading portion . I read and did the quizzes and stuff in the book only because this is how I learn so it may be different too you
Im going to sign up for online school next month because after the course they will provide where to do the 400 hours. So i have to go to the school and complete the 24 chapter course. I live in Los angeles so its hard to get in any field.
