How To Easily Fix Incorrect Measure Totals In Power BI

You might encounter issues with Measures in Power BI Table visualizations with a Total row. The usual complaint is that the "Total" row is “incorrect” for the measure. Usually, the total row is correct for the measure, it's just not what most people expect. In this video, Greg is going to take us through this common problem with Measure Totals and how to solve it.

This video was very helpful! Can you contrast the solution using the summarize technique here, with a solution I’ve adopted recently which is a hasonevalue, switch, true, [separate measure for each aggregation] pattern

If you put - 10 within the SUMX formula, like this: Measure Totals = SUMX('Table,[Value] - 10) the whole problem goes away. If the calculation is meant to be on per-row basis, do not put it on aggregation level. That is why it's important to know the concepts behind the calculations, not just blindly puting numbers in without context

agree. barrier to adoption. hard to get folks excited about something wen the 1st thing they try throws off a wtf experience

The whole BI is a barrier in every aspect. Every simple math calculation or idea😁(simple!) is taking hours to create. In addition there is no debugging tool or any view one can take a look what is going on behind a measure or what is filtered etc). 90% chance it will be wrong as there are so many things needed to considered. After 2 years I really hate it as all ideas are horror to implement.

My company is going back to Tableau because of this stupidity. I joined as PBI Dev and I'm getting out of PBI as well. Since the beginning this tool is very problematic in terms of development and analytics.

While I can appreciate the shortened versions of your DAX code, it's very difficult to follow the "___Value" in your final summary SUMX. If would help if this was spelled out to better explain the Summarize formula. I am darn near an expert is Excel, but this formula is just a seemingly big mess and Microsoft can't even explain it well in their "Learn Microsoft" pages.
