Very cool idea and looks great. I was amazed when I learned how easy it is to make micarta. You can't go wrong with a material that is very strong, looks expensive when done right, and you can make it yourself while spending little money.

This was a great idea for micarta and it looks incredible. It looks like colored, stabalized wood but better.
@tbrew8222

Beautiful. I think I like it better stacked on wood rather than I would as a whole scale. The contrast of old/ modern and natural synthetic, really compliments eachother and makes them both stand out. I might try this with blue and green. It may make nice pendants and other items too.

Just found this vid. Glad to see how "gangsta" ur shop is. Mines a cluster***k, but i know where everything is. I see so many creators with thousand dollar hammers, bridgeport mills and lathes, huge forge/furnaces all in pristine condition and in perfect spots. Its nice seeing how far one can get with good old fashion elbow grease, alittle creativity and some will. Good job. Ps. Love the safety flip flops 😉

He is so precise and structures his explanations with eloquent and simple phrasing. He has a style that reminds me of my favorite TED talks. I learned how to make micarta from this channel and ones like it. Stay tuned, and go make some cool stuff. It's never 'perfect', and doesn't need to be. Every day you create and explore you get better at both. Cheers, #Maker. Go make! :)

Check out your local #Makerspace. You can be working on stuff like this any time you want. It made my life happier as well as more interesting. Lately I fall asleep thinking about prototype project parts to make on the CNC or collaborative projects with the other #makers. Do a search. If you can't find a makerspace (or similar situation) close to your location then you can easily join the online maker community, find other makers, and #MakeOne. It is very worth the effort to have a space to pool resources, share creativity, and make ideas into actual things, that you can hold in your hands. Cheers, fellow nerds and makers! :)

Would fiberglass resin be strong enough alone or do you need to add materials like cloth, paper, burlap and such? Is it possible to just make solid colors by just adding the modelers paint to the resin?
@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 4 года назад
The resin really gets its strength from the fibers. Yes you can use a few drops of paint to color the resin

I doubt the blue dye in the skotch brite or in the construction paper will last, for sure its going to fade in to a pale color.

Shinny paper unfortunately will usually not absorb the resin or stick together will. I do not think it would work as micarta. You could always cast it in clear resin
